Nexus
Mike from Grand Island dialed up the Tom Osborne show on the Husker Sports Network on Tuesday night wondering if Osborne might go the route of Joe Paterno and Strom Thurmond. You know, perhaps Osborne will serve as Nebraska athletic director for another decade-plus. OK, probably not that long. "Let's put it this way, we're embarking on a campaign to raise some money and build some facilities, like the East Stadium addition, we're going to renovate Devaney, we're building a basketball practice facility, we're going to do a batting facility, and then there's the arena downtown," he said. "Now I may not be athletic director long enough to see all those projects come to complete fruition. But I'd like to make sure everything's in place -- the funding, the plans -- and that we've made the transition to the Big Ten effectively and have our feet on the ground. "Those are the things I'd like to see happen." He didn't offer up a time frame on when he might retire. "I'm going full speed ahead on those things," he said. He was at ease talking about his future. "Nobody goes on forever," he said. "One thing I'm conscious of is there comes a time when your abilities, your skills, your energy is no longer what it once was and you're no longer able to do justice to the job you're in. I don't want to stay beyond my time." LINK Quote Link to comment
zoogs
You get the feeling he would walk back on the field and coach for another twenty years if they let him. Come think of it, I just looked him up and he's still listed as our Head Coach! Quote Link to comment
