NUance
Huskers' California crew heading homeBy Adam Rittenberg | ESPN.com Nebraska's official homecoming game takes place Sept. 29 against Wisconsin, but for Huskers quarterback Taylor Martinez and a group of his teammates, it really arrives Saturday. <snip> Nebraska's roster includes eight Californians, including four -- Martinez, defensive end Cameron Meredith, wide receiver Quincy Enunwa and safety Daimion Stafford -- in starting roles. As of Monday night, Meredith's cheering section had swelled to 216 people -- "That’s friends, family, teachers, coaches, everything," he explained. LINK 216 people coming to see the Camstache. NUance
Martinez said this week that he “loved UCLA growing up as a kid.” But the only interest that the Bruins showed the Corona Centennial quarterback, who led the 15-0 Huskies to a state championship in 2008, was about turning him into a safety. He said they never offered him a scholarship. Martinez, a 6-1, 200-pound junior, is now being mentioned as a Heisman Trophy candidate. Enunwa, a junior from Moreno Valley Rancho Verde, told reporters from Nebraska this week that he was ignored by everyone in the region except San Diego State. Asked if he felt motivated in any way, playing in the Southland where he was mostly overlooked, Enunwa said, “You could say that. Show teams that didn’t look at you that they’re missing out on you. Like Tom Brady (who was a late-round draft pick) did. It could be my fire this weekend.” LINK Here's another pretty good article about our South'n Cal connection. We got a ton of talent on our roster from the Inland Empire--an area a few miles to the east of the Rose Bowl. Quote Link to comment
