HDD clone/copy for MBR and programs to newer HDD

Recommended Posts

All my C: is on a 150gb velociraptor with approx 140gb occupied. A friend gave me a 300gb velociraptor so I want to transfer the data over to the new drive.

I tried using the WD acronis software and a paragon drive copy and both screwed up my system when it said to reboot. Had to go into windows in safe mode and restore to an earlier date. Hate doing that.

Anyway, I know someone out there has done it. I don't trust too many of those web site/forums. And some of them post info that is just way over my head. I tried just copying the c: to the newer drive but then it just made that drive the same size and doesn't all me to utilize the full 289 or whatever gb is really on the drive.

???

thx
