Akron Game Preview

My guess

1. Amazing first quarter that results in a 35 to 10 type game but with little to no action after the first quarter

2. Total struggle fest where our fans post about how young we are and that is why we struggled.
If you guys look at their box scores over the last two years, you would see they play everyone competitively through the first third to half game. Then their lack of depth really shows and teams run away.

I’m sure that plays some part of it but I think the other part is when is school like Akron comes to your home field… You don’t really give a ****. Like Ohio State knows they’re gonna win that game so it probably takes them a good quarter and a half to even wake up and realize they’re playing a game.

So I know I will end up taking the huskers but man that’s a lot of points, especially for a team that doesn’t seem to make a lot of big plays recently

Nebraska and Akron opened the 2018 season on the gridiron in Lincoln, but the game was later canceled due to lightning. The game was called after almost a three-hour delay and Akron opted not to play the following day.

The game contract called for Nebraska to pay Akron a guarantee of $1.17 million, but since the game wasn’t completed, the two schools reached an agreement and Akron will receive $650,000.

Nebraska and Akron have also agreed to a new game that will be played at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Sept. 6, 2025. Nebraska will pay Akron a $1.45 million guarantee for the game.

“We are pleased to finalize an agreement with Akron that is beneficial for both institutions,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said.

What a bargain and a privilege this will be!

I wonder how all this started out years ago.

Like, why were some schools the "big school" and some the "little school" was it location, enrollment, fan base, just wins and losses?

Clearly the "It" schools were able to get together and basically control how this worked.

Big school hosts game, lame school gets big check. Big school never has to travel to lame school

If Akron scores 2 cheap TDS then NU will need to score 50 to cover.

How often does NU score 30 points in games? Rarely. Like, a few times a year. But I do hope we get 40 or more since it is a night game. And fans have a blast.

Yep or even one "fast" quarter...a 7 minute drive by NU for a TD...a 4 minute drive for Akron for a FG...quarter is basically done.
