Coaches, players or both?

I do not know who we will play in our bowl game but if we were to play Clemson, for example, who have the same record as us, I would be interested to see how many on this board believe we have a chance to beat them. Dabo vs Rhule, that should answer the question whether the coach is to blame for what is on the field or the players. We have coaches for a reason. Even 5-star players need coaching. Getting your team to compete at their highest level is coaching. Rhule makes millions. The buck stops with him. If the players are not executing then may be practices are not effective, especially after bye weeks.

WE complain about REfs not calling things, but they allowed us to beat NW at home by not throwing a flag on PI. Illinois style says that they would beat us, 28-10. They grind on you and then pass for 35 yds. Grind on you, touchdown pass. They are more physical and put together. Biggest reason, they have a winning record. We can not beat winners. Cincy might have been the only win that we have against a team above .500 on the season. Notice above .500, not .500 or better. Maryland sucked, Michigan St sucked, Northwestern is .500. UCLA was not good either. I think that sums up our wins for the year. Akron and Christian school of the blind don't count. I would also beg to differ that we wouldn't have beaten Cincy if we played them in October or November. Keep buying the fluff, keep seeing the lack of progress. We have not beaten a good team for along time. We don't compete.
Michigan St just hired Pat Fitzgerald.....Be interesting to see what he can do there.

I don't get the love for Bo. Imagine this year, but we beat Michigan instead of losing by 3. Then unranked Penn State scores the record number of points against a Nebraska team and/or one of their players sets an NCAA yardage record.

Then we win a bowl game and end up 9-4. That was Pelini. The defensive genious that got absolutely hammered in multiple games in his career here.

Rhule's teams give up more than 70 points and more than 539 yards rushing or lets some guy break an NCAA single game record with more than 408 yards rushing giving up 59 and we all call for his head.

Bo was a defensive coach. Yet got crushed on D multiple times. He sure passed off the offense because many times he left the sidelines during games to focus with the Defense.

Pelini was given every opprtunity here to be a head coach. He's not a current head coach anywhere for a reason.

Truth. But he did win 9/10 games each year, and we all know the reason he was fired is cuz he had the personality of a Piranha with rabies.

Another question on the coaches: On our last offensive drive, we leaned on EJ to get down the field. Why did HH need to come into the game? Was that a SR day thing from Rhule and DH to get him a TD? He had just gotten folded up by a darn DB earlier in that drive (I'm more convinced now that he did not actually get the 1st down after rewatching the game). Why did we need to do that in that spot?

That 70-21 conference championship loss with 539 yards rushing would hotseat a lot of current coaches.

Rhule teams have those sort of scores put up and he can pack up the house and move.

It was a feel good senior thing. I doubt he felt good about it in the end.

Adding to the Illinois debate: 3 out of 4 losses came against Washington, Indiana, and Ohio ST. I think all ranked in the top 25 at the time. Wisconsin had a moment and beat them last week. Two losses to Top 5 ranked teams are valid point for they are not dropping off just yet. They beat USC and Duke who ranked at one point during the season.

Where would you rank us amongst the Big 10.
1.. Ohio ST
2. Indiana
3. Oregon
4. Michigan
5. USC
6. Washington
7. Iowa
8. Illinois
9. Penn St
10. Minnesota
11. Nebraska
12. NOrthwestern

All the rest don't matter as of right now.I think given head to head and our predictability, were 11th best team. Washington played Ohio St, Oregon and Michigan. 3 out of 4 losses to ranked teams.

That’s a pretty fair ranking although I’d put USC ahead of Michigan who they beat head to head. We have to hit the portal hard to move up 3-5 places. Next year is wasted if we can’t get to where the Washington, Iowa, and Illinois are today.

We outsmarted ourselves all season on short yardage. We were apparently convinced that we had to put HH in the game and do something, even though it basically never worked. It was like we were over there thinking "we spent all this time prepping these plays so I guess we have to use them."

This is a great listen from Adam Carriker. His tone is much harsher than I have ever seen and speaks to the high level of concerm with Rhule and his staff. I normally don't say these words but this is really a must listen.
