Dylan Raiola

Some good points in here, maybe we should be more worried about OL, WR and RB than we should about QB1 at this point. It may not matter who is throwing the ball if there isn't enough support.
I agree about most of this, except I think we are good at WR/TE options.

With Hunter, TE Luke, Quinn Clark, Cortez Mills, Keelan Smith, Carter Nelson, Bonner,.. and Barney (fingers crossed) we have an abundance at WR/TE to get the job done.

At RB I think we need a big RB if we can get one. Mostly to convert short yardage at the goal line and 4th and 1. A real B1G ten bruiser.

The other backs ought to step up and be good with more opportunity.

Mozee, Jamarion Parker, Mekhi Nelson, Conner Booth, Ives all getting a little bit older.

It's really up to Barthel to trust more towards the staff, and identify the best 3 to get the job done. Plus a big ten bruiser-type from the portal if possible.

And we saw EJ produce 3 great games with Lateef running the offense. Because TJ is another threat running for 1st downs un-accountable.

I’m
Lot of hypotheticals in that post.

I was excited to see what junior year Dylan could do.

I just know that with a decent defense we beat Michigan. We had no linebacker presence in that game. But Raiola threw for 308 yards.

And we don’t know how USC ends if he doesn’t get hurt.

Well, not hypotheticals…just my opinion, which is probably worth even less lol

I’ve watched a lot of football for about 42yrs, being a coaches son I grew up seeing a lot of film.
I just don’t think even with “mild, whole team upgrades” that Dylan was the answer to make the throws necessary to get us to the 10-12 win margins. We know for sure he won’t with his feet. We know for sure he will get sacked. Even with a better line, he will get sacked a lot over a season.

I wish he would a stayed and he was the best QB on the team, but that doesn’t mean I think he’d get past where he is now.

50 yards of that 308 came on a Hail Mary that Barney made an exceptional play before half time. So basically 255 yards, sacked 7 times, and provided a blue print for Minnesota to sack him 9 times and MSU around 8 times.

Marshall just picked off Maiava. It was DR that took a sack, got hurt, fumbled the ball, lost all momentum, and the rest of the defense went down hill. But after that fumble USC scored instead of NU adding to the lead. TJ came in unexpected to play the game. And we lost by three. It is what it is.

For what it’s worth, keeping DR15 probably meant: keeping Donny as OL coach, running Satterfields offense vs Dana’s offense, offering a low 3 star QB in Dayton and whatever other stipulations or arrangements/understandings we don’t know about etc. NU kind of bent over backward for this dude and sometimes the juice ain’t with the squeeze.

Seems like best case scenario for all parties was for him to move on.

He was a hell of a QB for sure. I hope he gets what he wants and balls out at another school and makes it to the NFL.

It seems extremely unlikely that a guy who's been an OC and a head coach for years would come out of "retirement" in the middle of a season only to be told that he has to run some other guy's system. He did say he still used a lot of the same stuff last year, which makes sense because you can't completely revamp an entire offense in one week. But if he wasn't allowed to implement his own system with a complete off-season to work on it, that would be a level of disfunction that is almost beyond imagination.

Man it just seems unusual that a guy known for his “air raid” offense at multiple stops along his career all of a sudden doesn’t install that offense when he is the OC at NEB.

I could see when he came in late season in 24 not wanting to make whole sale changes but why we doing more of the same old same old in 25 other than, give EJ as many touches as possible? Just makes you wonder is all.

Dana not running the air raid is like Going to a KISS concert and they don’t sing “Rock and Roll all Night.” Just doesn’t add up.

DR threw a pick-six and lost to UCLA. TJ beat them. But anyways....
Dylan was 10/15 for 91 yards against USC and exited the game while leading 14-6. TJ went 5 for 7 for seven yards with six rushing attempts for 18 yards. You can nitpick stats, but TJ did not look that impressive this year when facing defenses in the top 100.
