I would have no expectations for portal players who make impacts. We just have not shown that. With our history of firing coaches, I also seeing other teams using that against us on the recruiting trail. In a way, we have got to keep Rhule for longer than our history would suggest. Portal players want money, winning and to be draftable. I just don't know if we can give them all three with what we show on the field right now. Invest in HS talent, and find coaches who can develop them, and get this thing going from the foundation on up.

I don’t think what has been shown in the field this year means as much as it used to for portal players. Hire a good coach and fork out the NIL. Everyone constantly brings up Cignetti. I’m so sick of hearing about him. But, thats what happened there. We have a chance of doing that with the staff.

In the B1G AI says NU, Wisky and Purdue. We are the only one with a winning g record. Not saying one is right or one is wrong, but what does their DL look like? How many years experience. Their staff vs NU? This is the common “it’s not the X’s and O’s, but the Jimmy’s and the Joe’s”. We lacked the players.

Agree. The scheme is fine if the coaching staff knows how to run it and has the personnel to do so.

There are probably a lot of candidates out there who would be the next John Butler. Gotta choose wisely.

You’re probably right that there were some of those posts on here.

But he was unproven as an actual DC.

Either way, this move only makes a lot of sense if an experienced DC with current success is brought on board.

Many have said our def line has regressed. My question is compared to what? To the beginning of the season, when we played weaker teams or passing teams? Our run defense has been horrible all year. So I am not sure regression is a good word. You can’t begin to compare them to last year, bc it is completely unfair. You are replacing Ty and Nash…2 grown a$$ 5th yr guys with undersized sophomores, with the exception of Juedy, who isn’t very good. We put a lot of apples into the portal and couldn’t land anyone. Not sure we can blame DL coach, bc he was given undersized, young athletes in a scheme that demands studs upfront to work. By all accounts from inside the program, he is a pretty good coach
