Malaysia Airlines 777 Down in Ukraine

CD - have you vetted the source of that graphic? Who is Vagelis Karmiros? Why is he to be trusted?
I honestly can't give an answer and can't say why he attest to the trustworthiness of the graphics, however, I would assume that they were constructed based off of the previous flight paths that had recently occurred within the area.

Would you agree that's a bit of an odd answer coming minutes after you "question the validity" of my post above? If we're concerned about validity then let's be concerned about validity in all things, right?

On a somewhat unrelated note, if you guys aren't using Flightradar24, it's an app I highly recommend. I'm having connectivity issues right now, but if it were up I'd give a list of aircraft currently flying over Ukrainian airspace (stupidly, in my opinion). I checked it earlier and saw at least two civilian aircraft over their airspace. Most were skirting the edges of the Ukraine, but still - what the heck are these other people (pilots? Ground control? Airlines?) thinking?

I see your point, but if you want to take it to that level, do you know the source, biographical information, and trustworthiness of every article and author that you have ever quoted, linked, referenced, etc.?

I do enough due diligence to be able to post links with an expectation of accuracy in what I'm posting, yes. If I'm expecting someone to believe what I'm telling them then I'd better believe it myself, and I have a pretty high level of skepticism about pretty much everything these days, flavored with just a soupcon of cynicism.

I agree. We may carry on.

Then you no longer question the validity of my above statements?

EDIT - finally got Flightradar24 up. I'm currently showing 12 civilian aircraft over Ukraine. None over the Crimea, and none over the eastern half of the country (SHOCKING!). But there were some earlier.

Seriously, get this app. Look up in the sky, see a plane. Open the app, click on the plane overhead, and it'll tell you the flight, the type of plane, the origin & destination. For example, as we speak there is a Siberian Airlines Boeing 737-8Q8 flying over the Sea of Azov at 32,975 feet, going from Simferopol to Moscow, arriving in 1:17. It's maybe not essential life information, but it's cool to know.

Flightradar24. And get the Pro version ($2.99). The free version is basically crap.

It's available for iOS and Android.

I flipped over to the skies above Stinkin' Lincoln here, and it's not pulling up anything, still "thinking." I'm guessing their servers are a bit overloaded right now. This was a better app when few people knew about it. A friend of mine owns an aircraft company here in town and clued me in to it.

EDIT - and just as I said that, here's the traffic over Lincoln. There's gotta be 50 planes above us right now, all getting a great view of flyover country.

If anyone thinks that Russia supplied these weapons directly needs to get that out of their head right now. They aren't that stupid. That being said I don't think theor hands are squeaky clean either.
Welp.

The US claimed on Friday that Russia had supplied tanks and other heavy weapons to separatists in eastern Ukraine and warned of further “costs” to Russia if more weapons crossed the border.

The state department said that in recent days three T-64 tanks, several rocket launchers and a number of other military vehicles had crossed the Russian border into eastern Ukraine.
