  1. Yes, but Yoshi has also been a mild bust.... Need I remind you: Highly rated 4* - turned down LSU and others.... I expected a lot more....
  2. Except that........ we don't have a 'pipeline' anymore. At least not yet.
  3. Anyone playing OU and tu. Then after that it's the underdog that's playing a team that's in NU's way (ala AR, VT, Boise, etc)
  4. Reckon you'd be projectile vomiting if you were Wisconsin and saw Nebraska ranked ahead of you. You might even have uncontrollable diarrhea if you were Northwestern, and Nebraska fans kept insisting the only reason you won is because their players took the week off. The defense has pretty much taken the season off. Who gives a crap about NW or WI? I only care about NU and based on tradition alone those 2 teams you mention should be quite satisfied with the toilet.com bowl. Not NU. Who talked about Fresno?
  5. I love this post - bec. you hit a nerve..... and as I just said in this (or some other thread) - I too am NOT a huge B1G fan (I think I said that in 1 of those 2 "who will win the Michigan game" threads). But........ I do think in about .....ooh.... IDK....45 years, once you and me are 6ft under there'll be thrilling rivalries with PSU, MU and OSU..... Too bad we won't be around to live them but our kids/grand kids sure will That being said, I think in the next 5-10 years you could see some real heat develop betw. NU and OSU, UM, PSU and UW ... but you are right, nothing like OU or tu or KSU or MU.... Sigh... And you wonder why the Fiesta is pegging NU/OU
  6. What makes me puke even more is the thought of seeing MSU in the first ever B1GC - a team that we thoroughly dominated and embarrassed. If that's not motivation for all those guys who took the week off, then they should be ashamed to wear that red "N".
  7. For people bringing up spying on DRob, here's why that's a bad idea "...How do you cheat to the quarterback when they have as much speed at the tailback position and at the receiver position that they have?" Pelini asked. "That's what our offense does to people -- we have enough speed on the perimeter, it's hard to cheat to a running quarterback. .." http://my.journalstar.com/post/Husker_Extra_Group/Husker_Extra/blog/the_spy_question.html
  8. This is actually very simple... on paper. 1) Pressure Robinson. 2) Tackle well in the open field. BTW - all the national predictions are in MI's favor. Only 2 that I know of (NE homers to boot) are picking NU (Kugler/Fiala).... Anyone know what the Vegas line is?
  9. I just hope we don't fall into that old B1G mindset trap...... You know..... that "lets just get to the Rose Bowl" line of thinking.... Nebraska is about playing for Championships........and as long as we don't fall into that old B1G mindset I'm okay with this conf. Hopefully we change that mindset for the rest of the old schools in the B1G Still would have preferred a stable Big12. Too much talent and speed that we gave up on IMO.
  10. No, not at all. Austin's main problem is not the horrendous negativity. Forums definitely need a balance of opinions - otherwise they'd be extremely boring. His main problem is refusing to dialogue on the strong points that others make contrary to his. To boot, he takes contrary opinions personally to a bizarre and irrational level. Like what?
  11. Well, it has been an interesting transformation. AH uses the "game changer" vs "game manager" description, which I think is apt. For whatever reason, T-Mart's game changing explosive plays (on his feet) have been held relatively in check. He has still run effectively at times, but his number of 20+ yard runs has dipped. I think his "manager" role has also helped him avoid turnovers. I am not arguing against the change, but it does come at cost (lost big plays). Against, MSU or PSU, the manager role was fine, because Bo's D matched up well. But against teams with mobile QBs (OSU, NW, WI), where our D allowed points, it put a lot of onus on T-Mart and offense to match point for point. This Mich game is going to see points scored (at least by Mich). T-Mart is going to need to make some plays, whether via the air or on the ground to keep NU in the game. Thank you. Don't know what I'd do without you putting on my "captian obvious" hat (sometimes I wonder why people have to explain things that are so plain to see - but thanks for having the patience that I clearly don't have) While I understand the point that if we lose it may be because Taylor reverted back to his form in the UW game, but a loss doesn't neccesarily mean back to square 1 for him because when we lost to NW it was pretty obvious that Taylor played very well. I think this game will shape up like OSU last year. We will get scored on. We simply have to score on them more. I would be tickled pink if we win 42-41 and I could easily see that happening. This is an interesting quandary we have with T-Mart. Even as he has matured into a more "complete" QB, in some ways he has also made himself much less relevant as an offensive threat. The NW game is a great example -- his stats are very, very nice (28-37, 289 yds, 12 rush/53 yds). But they didn't yield much. They were just stats. (to be clear TO's and D were the issue, not T-Mart in that loss.) But if we saw those stats before the game we all would have thought NU must have won by 20 pts, right? I think opponents will take that from T-Mart. Stop his big rushing plays and scrambles. Make him throw it around and hope to limit Rex. That recipe works really well with teams like WI, NW, and Mich who likely are very confident they can score points against NU's D. Match-ups are key. At any rate, Bo and staff have definitively changed philosophies concerning T-Mart's offensive role, the load is solidly on Rex and the O-line to win games, and I think that is a good strategy overall, but does get tested in potentially high scoring match-ups. Exactly. Which is what I've said since day 1: If you want to turn TMart into Tom Brady, then go get a Tom Brady-like QB. Don't try to make chicken salad out of chicken pooh. Okay - slight exaggeration but you see my point. Look, I like what TM is doing now and I really feel that they'll run him more once he gets more comfortable in the offense, but DANG! It's Almost December with 3-4 games left. I want the old "3-yards and a cloud of dust TMart" but........if the offense can't handle blowing people off the LOS, then "that" TMart will never be seen again. So I guess we now have "Manager TMart" coupled with a few designed runs..... Oh well, as long as we win (read: OL plays with some pride)
  12. How big is this game? ESPN says it's huge for the Huskers "Spotlight on the Huskers" http://espn.go.com/n...week-12-matters
  13. All I was saying is that the OL got whipped at the LOS and I have not seen PSU do that to anyone to that level. And yes, I watched a couple of their games against average teams like NW. Again, go back and watch. Watch Spencer Long and Caputo get beaten time and time again. Sorry - NEBRASKA should have a better showing than that no matter how great the def. is. To me that's symptomatic of other issues - and we saw those issues against Fresno, NW, Wyoming and others. Are you saying they didn't get whupped against NW?

  15. Yes, if he keeps it up in the games that matter. Lose to MI and we could be back to square 1. Back to sqare one if we lose a game? IMO, losing a game does not take away the progress that Martinez has made. Unless I'm not understanding the context of your post. What I mean is that if we lose to MI I doubt it will be because the offense scored 35 points and TM looked like Montana. If we lose it will probably be because of the usual crap: 0 run game, dropped balls, TM throwing bad balls..... porous defense, etc. TM probably wouldn't be the game changer that we all hope he becomes (as opposed to the game manager that he's turned into). Can you not agree that taylor has improved drastically since the beginning of the season? Everyone can see it. I agree 100%. But what is that really saying?
  16. I assume you directed that at me. Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't want TO "fired" in 92 but I sure was fed up as hell watching that crappy offense get stone walled against Miami to the tune of 0-22 among others. Tell me you were happy with that. Whatever........TO was DAMN lucky to get a great group of talented players assembled in 1994 and 1995 but don't sit here and tell me 20 years later that you saw that coming! Hog wash. Sounds like you are the perfect revisionist. And please don't build strawman arguments and put words in my mouth: I'm NOT "looking at Pelini in a vacuum". Don't know what exactly you mean by that. All I'm saying is that we need progress from year to year. If we go 8-4, is that progress? If we go 9-3 with a crap.com bowl. Is that progress? Sorry, 1 extra win against DirectionalKentuckyU does not equal progress. There's a reason every one and their dog picked NU with at the very least make the B1GC. Sounds like you're using your revisionist talents to make this potential 8-4/9-3 performance sound good. Sorry - not working with me. Now who's putting words in whose mouth? Where in the world did you come up with that? Everyone reading this thread gets that you don't know what I mean about viewing Pelini in a vacuum. That's your problem - you don't get it. That's why I'm trying to tell you what you should be focusing on. All you want to do is look very narrowly at the record, or at your personal ambiguous version of "progress," and that's foolish. Is 8-4 progress? Depends on the context. Putting that record in the context of this season, what we were (sober assessment, not some pie-in-the-sky dream scenario) and where we end up, paints a very different picture than simply looking at the W/L column and griping about it. Come up with what? I don't get what? That firing Bo will create more problems? And re. that last bolded part: Putting that record into context? What context? .....What are you saying? Sounds like a lot of words with no clear point.
  17. The D Line was supposed to be the strength of the team, and we were supposed to have All-Americans at all three levels of defense. With Camstache, Crick and Steinkuhler returning intact and Ankrah/Martin taking over at the other DE being largely perceived as addition by subtraction of Pierre Allen, we were all geared up to have a fantastic D Line with quality depth at every position. Add to that Lavonte David coming off a record-setting year and the return of Compton and Fisher, who were both "potential" guys, we were assuming LB would be decent, if not good. Add to that Lockdown Dennard on one side and Ciante Evans, who had shown flashes of brilliance on the other, the prevailing wisdom would be that we would be superlative on one side (Dennard's) and pretty good on the other (Evans'). At Safety we were pretty up in the air, but again the prevailing wisdom was that the other levels of solid play would protect the safeties from exposure, and they would grow into their roles. Instead of all this, we got a porous D Line that contributes to our #117 (out of 120 teams) ranking in Tackles for Loss and the #66 Rushing Defense. Every single team we've played has rushed the ball on us, and most have passed with comfort as well. The debacle of withholding the Blackshirts for more than half the season didn't help this situation, either. There was plenty of potential with this defense. But with a few exceptions, it hasn't come to fruition. With Bo being a "defensive genius," this is pretty hard to stomach for most. RIGHT ON THE NAIL!! I think we all had a feeling that our offense would need time to get going and would have to rely on our defense to make it manageable.....but never thought we would struggle so late in the season. Yeah, they have improved but still seem to lack that intensity that I thought they would have. The lack of intensity on def is IMO due to lack of confidence. Too much frigging thinking going on this late into November! On defense, you CAN'T think once the ball is snapped - needs to be 99% instinct/talent kicking in. This is the $64 million question: Did Bo just misfire on the talent evaluation during recruiting esp. in 2009 or is the scheme THAT hard to learn for FR/Sophs/JR's? On offense, the intensity issue is more intriguing. I just don't see it on the OL - which is where it all starts. Period. The way the OL got whupped at PSU is concerning.....

  20. I am in my 40s. I can clearly remember seasons as far back as the 1970s. I don't care if you're a "big Bo fan" or not, firing a coach going 8-4 in the circumstances of this season, after back-to-back ten-win seasons, is moronic. I would ensure another Callahan-esque hire, because this program would be toxic to any coach after we fired a 9-3 coach and an 8-4 coach in a period of eight years. I didn't say I was 'satisfied' with 8-4, or that anyone should be happy with it. Read my post again. I said that would be zero reason to fire Pelini. You're in your 40's. So am I You didn't say you were "'satisfied' with 8-4" but you did say "it would be zero reason to fire Pelini". Well then you're surely saying that we should keep Bo and be unhappy at the same time, yes? That doesn't sound like a good recipe for future success. I could stomach this season if we lost to WI and then lost a close 1 @PSU. But getting blown out by WI and then losing to an UNRANKED team at home because you didn't watch film or prepare reeks of coaching problems. And in year 4 we should be past those.
  21. Yes, if he keeps it up in the games that matter. Lose to MI and we could be back to square 1.
  22. There is zero reason to fire Pelini after a season that can be no worse than 8-4, especially when it comes on the heels of back-to-back 10-win seasons. It's bizarre that people are even mentioning this. WHAT? 8-4 and you think we should be happy? Wow. Talk about rock bottom expectations. Just curious - how old are you? How long have you been watching Husker ball? Yeah, if you want to go back to 1948, then 8-4 type expectations are the norm I guess. Look, not everyone is a big Bo fan. You know I'm not and I won't hide it. Do I want him fired this sec? Hell NO! But if we go 8-4, then he should be a on VERY short leash in 2012. That's just the way things are these days when you're at a big time program like NU and rake in close to $3mill.
  23. you most likely will not find a room in Ann Arbor, try surrounding cities such as Canton, Chelsea, Dundee, or even metro airport. All put you about 30 miles out from the Stadium. Well.... even if you get a room anywhere in metro Detroit (Southfield, Royal Oak, West Bloomfield) it's about a 40 min ride to AA...... Just saying
  24. Heh.....I'm also too lazy to look up current sos but Michigan's sos can't be anywhere close to ours. DUDE! How did you rack up 3240 posts on here? I didn't know that HP had an extradition treaty with HB...
