  1. And they say we're not failing at math in this country. Meant to say 5-4..... but since you're such a genius and have never made a typo I take my hat off to you. You must have invented Math. I forgot.
  2. I'm sure Bo's been picking up the 3 stars and walkons just out of spite. 4 and 5 star players, hell that's not asking for much. think we lower taxes and get fuel back to a buck a gallon while we're at it. That's not the point. Or maybe you just can't comprehend. The statement about Bo's recruiting is that he's either not involved as much or just plain SUCKS at it. Again, how many guys that Bo's recruited out of HS have become difference makers? Rex? Please. Rex is good/decent for the garbage offense we run now but don't tell me that Oregon, MI or WI are salivating over Rex. Other than Rex and maybe Bell.... there's no one who seems to be a great player that would match up with teams in the top 10. No one. Looking at Stanford, Oregon, MI, OkieLite. Hell, even WVA and Clemson is embarrassing. Our talent level is MAC-worthy. Cory Raymond pretty much eluded to that. You must be the moron that called big red reaction with a Rex bashing after the game, caugh hell for it over the radio the next night then tried to call Sports Nightly to try and explain and reconfigure your previous statement. If not, then I guess there's 2 really ignorant Husker fans. And all your reply did was reiterate what I said. Getting a plethora of 4 and 5 star players to Lincoln, NE is not something you just do. Hell, even Osborne couldnt do it. You must be pretty friggin stupid for coming up with that analogy.
  3. They are trying to create a perception of reality. I know of 5 people that commented under Shitel's story in support of Bo. Anything that was overly positive was not posted as of lunch time today. One guy even send in a second comment that was pretty vague but answering someone else and it made it up. This was after he had written in support. I also know of 2 boosters that sent Shitel emails over the weekend talking about the positives of Bo and his team. This was when it spread a negitive story was coming out. So. . if he says he hadn't heard anything in his column, he wasn't giving all the facts straight. I would hope that other Bo supporters would email Tom or post on that story. Even if its a quick I don't agree with your stance and why. NU went 4-5 in the games that matter (Wash, Wisc, OSU, MSU, NW, PSU, MI, IA, SC) and that included 3 ugly losses. Most of NU's top (4-5*) recruiting targets have turned their back on NU. The outlook for next year is dismal esp. at QB. What's the positive in that? Serious question.

  5. You know it's funny, I don't think Solich should have been fired at that time. The irony, for me, is that in many ways Bo put together much of that 2003 staff as his staff in 2008, and to a degree, we are witnessing what may have happened had Solich stuck around. Bo is going to earn his HC dollars next season. Does his D need to adjust? Does the O need a different QB? Can the DLine improve? Recruiting? Lots of questions. I disagree to some extent. I think Solich would've adapted NU's offense in similar fashion to how he's progressed at Ohio. Secondly, I think Solich would've been able to find some better answers at QB. The records may have been the same with Solich at the helm, but I don't believe NU would've been losing games the same way. I think Solich's teams would've been far more disciplined on the field. I don't understand why any discussion about Bo or Cally always comes back to Solich and his awesomeness. I have news for you: Solich sucked. Did he suck as bad as Cally? No. Was he better than Bo? Hell yes - at least based on the paltry stats we have. For one, he could recruit A LOT better. Bo's recruiting is borderline horrific. In either case, both weren't very good HC's. People tend to forget but Solich's last season was bad: 3 woodshed outings to mask that mediocre 9-3 record. Regardless, I just wish people would stop constantly looking backwards esp. to Solich! Good grief.
  6. The economy had far more to do with poor ticket sales than anything else. Wow. I hope this is hyperbole, because if you really think we're worse off now than we were at any time during the Callahan years, your perspective is way off. The "economy"? Husker fans were never stopped by Tsunami's but now the economy is in the way.....Whatever. Yes, 2007 was worse. DUH! But TO was not in the house. Cally had no backing (and who cares, he sucked). Pederson was the devil. The big difference is we KNEW what was broken. Now, it's a disaster from top to bottom. I question TO's ability to hire a coach. I question TO's exact definition of "things are going well". I question what exactly is TO's definition of a successful program (see BBall and Baseball aside from football).....I question Bo's basic abilities as a HC AND a DC. Yes I don't think Bo is the genius DC some think he is. You want to see great DC's - go check Michigan, South Carolina, LSU, Bama. Heck even Oregon and WI have better defenses than NU and I don't see any need for that fancy Peso junk that Bo has trade marked. After watching the bowl season and seeing what real football looks like I've gone out and bought the biggest face palm contraption I could get my hands on. You can drink all the KA you want. I'm off the Bo bus. And in case you still think this is "hyperbole", go back and re-read the first part of Shatel's article where he talks about Husker angst: http://www.omaha.com...IGRED/701079799 You do realize that Bo more then deserves the assumption of a "defensive genius" if anyone does, right? He has a very proven track record as a DC. All of those teams you listed have more talent then Nebraska on the defensive side of the ball, and I wouldn't be so quick to throw Michigan, South Carolina, and Oregon into the bag of great defenses/ or defensive coordinators.... That Peso "junk" that you speak of is the only thing that kept us from a losing season in 2009, and it was the primary defensive set for one of the best defenses I have ever seen (especially considering the tough circumstances the offense put them in that year). It comes down to talent. You wanna know the difference between the 2009 team, and the 2011 team? Its replacing Suh, with Steinkuler; replacing Prince/Hagg/Gomes, with Cassidy/Green/Thorell.... It comes down to talent. It's funny how quickly some forget it, but if you give Bo adequate talent, it is flat out scary what he can do with a defense.... And most DC's can look flat out scary with talent. Hey, don't ask me - go ask SC's DC.... or MI's DC...... or VT's DC..... or Oregon's DC.... or Bama's or LSU's or even WI's. Bo got woodshed-ed more than I care to remember. The number of ass kicking's since 2008 is more than I can stomach. Remember that 200yd. rushing day McFadden had on Bo's LSU D - even with guy's like Dorsey? You think Bo's "weak DL philosophy" is an accident? What about 55-19 in that USC/OU game? What about 65-35 in the OU game in 2008? I don't see MI's defense looking so clueless in Greg Mattison's first season there.
  7. 1) Recruit top notch athletes aka 4 and 5* players. 2) Change to an attacking defense where the DE's can rush more instead of playing contain. Yes, mobile QB's need to be "contained" but MSU (and VT to a large degree) showed how you contain a big time "mobile QB" like Denard. 3) Recruit. 4) Get better DL play. I guess the hiring of Kaczyinski is a step.... 5) Recruit.
  8. Amazing...... The media is the bad guy here. While Bo continues to embarrass NU fans with the garbage product he puts out there.
  9. "There's angst and there's over-the-top silliness". Right. And you are the genius who knows how to differentiate betw. the 2. Great. So now 90% of Husker fans are over reacting morons while there is a silent 10% like you who see the brilliant light at the end of the Bo tunnel

  11. Trust me, I can't believe we did either. I say "we" because I believe the entire fan base had a part in all of that. Impatience and stupidity. Plus the man in charge of the athletic department was an absolute failure. I see the point of this post and there's no debating the facts. Bo has done a pretty damn good job so far. It is okay to expect more of the same or maybe even some improvement though too isn't it? The University of Nebraska is about winning championships. I believe there was a Bo Pelini support poll on Huskerboard the other day. I thought I saw the voting at roughly 90-95% in support of coach Bo. So I guess the support Bo horse has been beaten nearly to smithereens. I'd say 95% is majority right? Fact is we have won a lot of games. The unfortunate thing around here lately is that when we lose it's either by a large number of points or in some ugly form or fashion. Texas winning with 1 second left on the clock in a controversial call. Texas AnM, terrible roughing the passer call, ensuing sideline antics between Bo and Taylor. 17 point lead blown in Big 12 title losing to Oklahoma. Wisconsin, Michigan, and Northwestern this year. All ugly games. The loss to Texas in the Red Out Around the World game. Bo's head butting with local media. The South Carolina loss stung the fan base a bit. There's just been some ugly situations and tough losses to swallow. They have nearly drowned out the big wins and great breakthroughs this program has had. Fact is, this team has got to quit shooting itself in the foot. Bo Pelini has got to establish some level headedness and consistency amongst himself, his coaches and his players. The future is bright if we can find a way to shine a light on some of the great things going on in this program instead of all the attention being poured on these tough situations that have been so prevalent over the last 4 years. And.... what are those "great things going on in this program"? Graduating players? Not getting 3 guys arrested in a 2 weeks span? Hello, I have news for you: Those are the bare friggin expectations even at programs like North Dakota. Cally, Solich, TO, Bob all did well in those areas too. At a place like NEBRASKA, the standards are a little higher. And at $3mill, the stakes are higher. The ONLY thing that will ensure that NU dives head first into it's current tail spin of being a mediocre program is fans who accept mediocrity. And if the ticket sales at the bowl were any indication, we're farther along than I even thought. This is one of the sadest times of me being a Husker fan. I never thought that day would come but I'm slowing losing my enthusiasm as a fan..... I find myself now watching more NFL... I watch games like Oregon/WI as if I had dog in the fight. Maybe it's my inner being wanting to watch some good football.....IDK.... but I've NEVER felt this way even during 2007 (bec. I knew Cally was gone). There are SO MANY things broken with this program that hearing TO come out and say "he likes the chemistry" (or whatever other bologna he's selling) makes me really wonder how did it all get so bad so fast.......
  12. Uuummm.... make that 3 big losses. Even though "just by 17" the loss to SC was about as bad as it gets. The way NU looked in the 2nd half made the 2009 B12C with Zac Lee handing off to Burkhead (only to slam his head into a brick wall play after play for 0 yards)..... look like the NE Patriots and Tom Brady. The reason for the ANGST in Husker nation is 2 things: 1) No progress. I don't care how you want to slice and dice it but Bo's teams have gotten worse as the season has progressed ever since that 2009 B12C ended. Any coincidence that also happened to be the time that most of BC's players graduated? You can also file this under "lack of player development" 2) BAD recruiting. And I mean B A D! Just ask Cory Raymond.
  13. Phil Steele's last week's pick: Penn st 24 Nebraska 17. That gives me hope
  14. About a couple of hrs. ago I posted a "Pinkel DWI" thread and of course it vanished. Now I know that it probably got moved to the woodshed or some other forum but aside from that it's just strange and annoying how threads disappear on this BBS. Maybe I just need to get used to how things are done here (as opposed to HP) but what I don't get is that if a thread is not "appropriate" for this BBS then why not just let it die? If people don't respond to it it's just going to get pushed back anyway... Why the quick trigger finger? I understand how a "Pinkle DWI" thread might not be "football related" but we also know that 1/2 the threads here are not X's/O's football either.A lot of Husker fans take joy in seeing Mizzou crash... and Pinkel getting in a real pickle sure fit that bill...Aside from that a majority of us primarily use the football BBS and don't ever look at the others. BTW - my pw does not work on the woodshed. Does that require more hoops to run through? Oh well.......
  15. Before the season I thought 8-4 would be reasonably successful. I am not disappointed overall. Actually...I am very encouraged as Taylor Martinez is playing a lot better than I ever thought he would be capable. I'm pleasantly suprised with being wrong about him. I guess it's all a matter of perspective and expectations. I would say 8-4 would be pretty dissapointing because it means, yet again, we went 1-3 to finish the season. Yet again, we skated through our non-con schedule to lay an egg once things get tough. there are 5 wins built into our schedule every year. that leaves 7 other games. those are the ones that count. I'm not happy going 3-4 during the 7 games against teams that have a practice field and don't ride in on a yellow school bus. We have to finish better. Couldn't have said it any better! People always talk about "November"....... Every team is beat up in Nov. but the good/great teams can dig in and find ways to win (although I'm not sure whether the NW required much digging in)
  16. Which one will it be? NU - PSU NU - OSU NU - UM NU - WI Dang! That's 4 Oklahoma's. Yeah, we don't play these two each year so they aren't going to turn into a huge heated rivalry. Iowa is much more likely. Iowa? Why? No tradition plus they're not good. IMO a step up from ISU or maybe worse since ISU keeps beating them Been to a BCS bowl more recently than NU...actually two....just to play Devil's Advocate. Well, I understand how that might have happened playing in the mediocre B1G. For teams like IA and WI, "tradition" = the last 10 years. Not to mention NO championships of any kind ever. Sorry - don't mean to talk down to them but that's the definition of little sisters. Blue bloods = Nebraska, Alabama, Ohio State, ND, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, Texas (grudginly - only 1 NC in last 40 years) What've you done for me lately. Minnesota's a blue blood too by your definition with seven national championships but they haven't been anything worth watching in years....Iowa will make Big Ten Championship games and you'll lose to them from time to time. It'll be a rivalry.... Minnesota, Army, TCU, Chicago (wink wink).... I can go on. Sorry - NC claims before 1940 are very sketchy. No real NC games, shady record etc..... That's why Michigan's "7 NC's" are disputed bec. most of those came before 1948 I believe.
  17. He said he talked to police about the incident..... but now CNN is reporting that a police report was never filed. Wow. These guys must really be living in caves out in State College. Just listening to the reports out of PA these last few days and today's CNN Anderson Cooper report where they show how no one at PSU is talking about anything and telling media to turn off camera's, etc...... has me wondering about the parallels between the Mormon cult with Warren Jeffs and PSU-State College. A lot of parallels.... secrecy... denial.... http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/16/us/pennsylvania-sandusky-case/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
  18. If the d-line comes out and plays with a controlled rush, we can automatically mark this down as an "L". Sorry, but the controlled rush thing is the dumbest thing I have seen. It looks like the d-linemen are just standing around and not even trying. I mean, what's the point? So the QB has all day to sit back there and pick apart our D? The d-line has enough problems pressuring QBs and then you ask them for a controlled rush? Forget about it. Controlled rush equates to ZERO pressure and ALL day for WRs to get open and the QB to get them the ball. Get after Denard with blitzes and let our d-linemen loose. That's the only way we have a chance to win this game. Yup. That's why I sometimes wish I could get a press pass, fly up to Lincoln and ask Bo point blank if that's the premise of his defense and WHY he runs that silly scheme? Again, if there is proof that we run this "patty cake DL" scheme by design, then Bo is simply not a very good DC. To me it just looks like we have no talent on the DL and that equates to guys not being able to shed blocks. Bo isn't a DC - he's a head coach. Just sayin'. Anyways, I don't remember hearing complaints about this scheme the last two years. It seemed to be working pretty well most games, which is about all you can ask for from a defense. Was it is always perfect? No. Were their faults? Sure. But ask yourself this - what defense is capable of shutting down every single team week, to week, to week? Not a single one. That said, scheme and player talent has been brought up a lot this year. This our first year in the B1G, and Bo said in the off-season that they were going to have to change some things. One thing, specifically, was that Bo felt we weren't going to get away with the tight secondary coverage we had been doing in previous years. Now that we've reverted back to it, you've seen that our secondary has played pretty well the last few weeks. Poor against NW, but they shut down some very good receivers from MSU. Give Bo time to readjust to a new conference with a new style of football. It's unfair to question his abilities, and straight up call him a bad coach, when he has proven (at almost every level of football) that he knows what he's doing. The run defense has always been porous. Even with Suh we had games where we just couldn't stop the run.
  19. Which one will it be? NU - PSU NU - OSU NU - UM NU - WI Dang! That's 4 Oklahoma's. Yeah, we don't play these two each year so they aren't going to turn into a huge heated rivalry. 20. This is what I think ...... we are developing new rivalries and that will take time ......... we had on loss I can live with and one the sucks but that is a normal year so I think the funk has to do with setting new expectations and new teams to hate ....... also the situation last week at Penn State did not help but that is not the reason. Right, but it stil feels dowright WEIRD to be playing these B1G teams. We don't really know squat about them and I'm sure they look at NU as a stranger too.... It's no wonder we lost to NW. Bo probably thought they were ISU or Kansas.
  21. Which one will it be? NU - PSU NU - OSU NU - UM NU - WI Dang! That's 4 Oklahoma's. Yeah, we don't play these two each year so they aren't going to turn into a huge heated rivalry. 22. Which one will it be? NU - PSU NU - OSU NU - UM NU - WI Dang! That's 4 Oklahoma's.
  23. There's hope.... Supposedly MI's OL is not very good. And they have a few guys banged up.
  24. Oh boy. Thanks for reminding us..... I remember that game vividly. Like it was yesterday!
