  1. Yep, I remember Mad Mike. Sometimes he'd do it bare chested and had the red/white striped overhauls on! LOVED that as a kid. That's back when the the atmosphere was truly electric around the stadium. Being around lately, it does feel like it's coming back though.
  2. Do you deserve an opinion? Normally I'd say yes but seriously? If you don't like it, jump on the bandwagon and cheer for Kstate or Oregon. A win is a win and they absolutely deserve it.
  3. The way they're crying about the fumble for a touchback makes you think they're from PSU. According to rule, there was NOT indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field, PERIOD.
  4. A stout defense, Ameer/Heard/Cross, that WR corps, and Martinez at the helm next year. That would be a sight to see. Next year, there will be no excuses. If the verbal commits stick, and the depth we have next year, we should have a very decent defense, and even a better offense. Losing Rex will hurt us, but I think Janovich and Cross/Heard/Ameer combo will fill those shoes plus more. If Valentine can remain healthy, with Rome, Moss, Ankrah, Curry & Williams, our Dline will be stout. Our LB crew, I believe will also be better, especially if we plan on giving Santos, Pirman, Roach and Gangwish some more playing time. I don't know why, but my stomach tells me one of those last 3 players will show some unexpected talent. I agree. If it hadn't been for an injury, Gangwish was #2 a LB last Spring but fell down the chart after the injury but is working back up. I've heard numerous rumors over the last few weeks of them trying to find a place to play him. Another quote out of a practice after our starting Oline was given fits by him at DE was that he rushes like Wistrom and if they could make themselves block him they could block anybody. Big words I know but the kid could be something special on D if given the chance.
  5. To counter your thoughts...I know plenty that have met him including myself, and he is a GREAT guy! Some of us have met him on a general public level and some on a more personal or professional level. Bo is old fashioned and if he doesn't trust you, you won't get the time of day, and I like that.
  6. Ah, I see, yeah if there was sarcasm, I clearly missed it, lol. I'm not real great at catching that. In that case, carry on!
  7. In the picture of Taylor throwing he is clearly working on his mechanics and his release point. There probably isn't even a receiver downfield other than a coach or assistant. Look at his feet and his weight on his feet, he obviously isn't throwing to a receiver. It's a drill and could quite possibly be throwing into a bucket or something else. He's supposed to be watching his hand and the ball in that drill. Give the kid a break! People complain about his mechanics and how he needs to fix them and then when he does that gets picked apart too!
  8. Test isn't the word. I watched the replay of Iowa vs. Okie State and holy crap, they are both at a whole other level. Nevertheless, I will be in Lincoln on Friday night to watch the skers battle the hawks! Will be a great atmosphere
  9. AGREED. Take facebook right along with it. Unbelievable what those two things there are doing to kids and society. Our school is considering hiring another counselor just to deal with facebook issues, no joke. 8-10 kids in counselors office yesterday all over crap on facebook.
  10. I like Bo, but like I said, he does some dumb sh#t sometimes. When he does, I will certainly call him on it. The same way at my job when I do some dumb sh#t, I got people I answer to. Whether Bo likes it or not, he will always have to hear it from the fans when he fu#*$ up. That's part of the game, and part of life for that matter. So I think everyone can try to go ahead and get over that. I also understand that this is Pelini's first go around at HC. It's gonna take him some time to learn his job, just like it takes the rest of us time to learn ours. I don't believe in firing a guy because he makes a mistake. I believe in firing a guy when he makes the same mistakes over and over again. Bo has not reached that point in my opinion. A lot of people are screaming for this guy to be gone. I am not one of them so don't try to paint me with that brush. This just happens to be an area that Bo has got to get better at. I'm tired so can't stay focused long enough to read everything you wrote, although I'm sure it's good. However, I CAN'T take my eyes off your avatar!
  11. God, that's uncomfortable to read as a dad. I will do my best not to have my kid need that conversation from you. Personal pledge. I think just the fact that you as a dad are worried about something like that will probably preclude it from happening, You'll be involved in your childs day to day decision making, trying to help them make the right choices. Much like many, many others. I think when we start talking about "kids these days", everyone tends to speak about the ones with the issues. Seems like the kids who do have the parental support and are making good choices just usually don't get mentioned. And I think those kids are still the majority (although mabe a smaller majority now then before). There are still a whole lot of really good kids out there whose parents are doing everything they can to help them along the path, we really just don't hear about them all that much. I would be interested, HANC, Eagle, and TacherCD, do you guys teach in Nebraska? And if so, do you agree that while there are plenty of kids out there with issues and problems, you still do have more that are doing things the correct way. As to Carnes (and knowing nothing about him personally), if you are a quality D1 athlete you want to be on the field or court. He's not here just because he grew up loving Husker football like so many of our local kids who walkon, many who are somewhat content to be on the team. He's here to play, and it probably appears to him that the opportunity to actually play is getting less every day. From the sidelines it certainly appears that way. He's been here for two years (I know RS'ed one) so I think the instant gratification theory is not as valid. If he feels he'll get a better oportunity elsewhere, I wouldn't blame him for moving on, but I sure would like to see what he do running our offense. Yep I'm in Nebraska and to be quite honest with you it is frightening. You are correct, there are still plenty of "good kids" as we call them but way more of the other now than years ago. And to clarify, they'll all good kids but some need more guidance. When I started 20 years ago or so I'd have the occasional 2,3, maybe 4 kids with issues. Now, all jokes aside, close to half of our athletes need lots of guidance, and I mean lots. It's scary. Some of these kids raise themselves so when they face adversity, their first reaction is to quit. We have kids try to quit that tell us the reason they want to quit is because so many things going on at home and outside school. And we're not in the metro area either. Most of it has to do with the fact there are so many things these days for kids to do to get in trouble that weren't around years ago, and for some reason some parents don't see it so they let their kids live like we used to back in the day. Unfortunately there's more trouble out there these days. Thankfully the kids will come to the coaches for help since many of them are too afraid to go to parents. Problem is, sometimes by the time they come to us, it's a real mess. Single parent homes make it even worse, especially the ones where Dad is absent.
  12. I agree to a point. My problem is, how can he decide that this early? I guess I was brought up differently. Once you make a commitment to something or a team, you stick to it until you've exhausted all options. He obviously should have known coming in he wouldn't be the guy right away right? Now, maybe there's other circumstances we're not aware of too, in which case fine. I just don't agree with the philosophy of jumping ship when things aren't going your way as soon as you'd like. I know what you mean but like you said there could be other things, maybe he just doesnt like it there. You would not stay at a place you don't like for 5 years, would you? Well, it depends. If I didn't like it there because I didn't care for the school, the atmosphere, the team aspect, then yes, it's time to leave. That's why I threw that part about circumstances in there. Now, if I was just unhappy because I wasn't the starter or because I wasn't getting any snaps? I'd damn sure find out why and get my butt to work fixin it. Work harder, learn the system, etc. I've been on both sides of it as a coach and athlete. I had to earn that starting spot once. Did I like not being the starter? Nope. So I worked harder and busted my butt until the coaches HAD to give me the nod. I have some inside sources and according to them, that's not what he's been doing.
  13. God, that's uncomfortable to read as a dad. I will do my best not to have my kid need that conversation from you. Personal pledge. Not sure what you mean, care to elaborate?

  15. You know who teaches them that, right? It is the parents of those kids. Which means its people in their late 30s to early 50's I am right with you techercd.....great point..... assuming from the sig that you teach ..... so do I , and it is amazing how TRUE your statement is...parents who refuse to hold their kids accountable Thanks and I do teach/coach. If you do then you know where this stuff REALLY comes from. I always laugh a bit when stuff like this is blamed on the "young kids of today" I teach and coach as well and while I agree with you that it comes from parents I also hold the kids accountable too. Why? Because if you're like me, you try to teach these kids what their parents haven't and when they don't learn it or follow the advice, well, then that's on them. Time after time I've sat kids in my office advising them to not do something they are currently doing or to start doing something they are NOT currently doing. Things like drugs, alcohol, risky behaviors with girls, etc. Some choose to listen and make the changes, others end up back in my office after they've got in trouble or graduated and guess what I hear? Coach, I sure wish I'd have listened to you. That's on them.
  16. You know who teaches them that, right? It is the parents of those kids. Which means its people in their late 30s to early 50's I am right with you techercd.....great point..... assuming from the sig that you teach ..... so do I , and it is amazing how TRUE your statement is...parents who refuse to hold their kids accountable I teach and coach as well, two sports, and I agree as well. It does start at the parents.
  17. Yikes. "Things are different than they used to be! Young people use curse words!" If Brion Carnes has a better opportunity elsewhere he should jump on it. I'm not sure how you would want to argue otherwise. Don't give me that crap. I'm not that old, and in fact am still a coach, no, not at peewee level. I see it on a daily basis. A lot of young kids don't have the work ethic anymore, and even though they may play football or other sports, if things don't go their way quick, they quit or transfer to another school. Not much loyalty or willingness to earn that spot instead of have it handed to you. If you don't see it, you don't work with it on a daily basis like I do or you're blind.
  18. But is Bo playing the better athletes rather than the people who are less talented but know the system more? You can't replace athletic ability. Yes you can replace athletic ability to a certain extent. You can be the best athlete in the world but if you can't remember who to give the ball too, or which way to turn, etc. you're useless. The best player is one that is athletic AND smart. The best athlete works most of the time in high school, but sorry, at the D1 college level, they have to be able to learn assignments too because the guys on the other side are equally as talented, unlike many times in high school.
  19. I disagree, you can blame Carnes if it happens. This is an instant gratification society we live in. No longer is anyone willing to work harder to earn a job or get better. They all expect it to be given to them. You see it at all levels, kids transfer schools in high school because the grass is greener somewhere else. Happens all the time. Sorry but these are future leaders of our world and if they don't get what they want right away they either quit or they go somewhere else rather than sucking it up and doing what it takes to get better. No loyalty what-so-ever, it's all about "me".
  20. I'll raise you this year's games against PSU, MSU, '10 and '09 Missouri, '09 Arizona, and '09 Oklahoma. All wins, all good teams. Let's just go ahead and put the clamps down on this "We are Nebraska" B.S. that you and so many others talk about these days. We are Nebraska, but that doesn't mean much of anything in the scope of college football today. Everybody has athletes now unlike two decades ago. Coaching is far more sophisticated. Game film review is far more advanced. Schools that didn't have money are making more of it. Furthermore, we're in the middle of the U.S., subjected to frigid winters and stifling summers. We're not going to ever be able to recruit like the LSU's and Florida's of the world. We're just not. And inadvertently demanding that we should be better than everybody else just because we're Nebraska is naive and unfocused. Second of all, go back and look at T.O.'s first years, and recall the fact that he was almost fired after the first several years of his coaching tenure. He took over a championship winning team, had big wins, had bad foul ups and could never beat Oklahoma. I'm sure you're glad we held onto him, aren't you? This says it all...no need for any further discussion on that part. Only a few people are able to look at the landscape objectively and come to this conclusion and it is dead on. Nice post.
  21. Actually AH you're putting words in his mouth! He ASKED if you advocated for it which would be why there was a ? at the end! If you didn't, great. I'm in my 40's too and sooner or later you HAVE to realize the landscape of college football HAS changed. We DON't have advantages we used to and neither does anybody else! Why do you think their are so many upsets every weekend? We fire Bo and nothing will change except maybe for the worse. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. The program needs continuity of a coaching staff to stick around for a long time, then we'll see the progress you're hoping for otherwise it's constant change and change isn't always good. Look, I want to win titles too, but like it or not, it's nearly impossible for every team to stay on top ALL the time! Top tier teams will have good years and bad and will take turns at the top. Happened at Florida State, Florida, etc. after many coaching changes, and it's happening here. Fire Bob Stoops and see what would happen at OU. Heck it happened after Schwitzer and up to Stoops! They'd drop quick and would take time to get back up. It's just the nature of the beast at all levels. I coached at a high school years ago that made playoffs 20 years straight. When I moved on to other ventures and the other two coaches also moved on, guess what they dropped, big time. The new guy that took the job was a VERY good coach but for 5 yrs people wanted him fired because they weren't winning. Well, for the last few years all of a sudden they LOVE him because they're winning again and deep into playoffs each year. Guess what, he's still there and those times have been conveniently forgotten!
  22. Yeah, sick was last weeks excuse, I think ARod has a LOT of potential but not very much WANT to. Choi clearly wants to play.
  23. While it's unfortunate, the youtube vid shows a bunch of drunk, immature college kids full of alcohol and testosterone with the safety of 100's just like them to save them if the OSU guys retaliate. The posters that have come to this board are obviously mature adults and probably have no idea the things in that video even go on because they're busy tailgaiting, enjoying pregame, and doing it responsibly. I understand why the posters from Penn came on here to try and be rational about. Unfortunately because of people like the video shows, I'm sure it isn't as safe as they think it is. I just hope anyone going to the game runs into the people that do it right and not those in the vid. However, a lot can be prevented by making sure you scope out the landscape and pay attention to where you're hanging out. I also feel bad for the PS fans, community and especially the victims. I honestly don't understand the staffs lack of action about the things that happened but I REALLY don't understand how the person or persons who witnessed the acts did not physically kill the predator on the spot. I'm pretty sure that's what I'd have done.
