  1. Lombardi (2-0), Bud Grant (vikings 0-4), Shula (Colts, Dolphins 3-1), Landry (Cowboys 3-2), Chuck Noll (Steelers 3-0), Walsh (49rs 3-0?), Gibbs (Redskins 3-1?) Johnson (Cowboys 3-0), Levy (Bills 0-4) Dan Reeves (Broncos, Falcons 1-2?), Parcells (Giants, Pats 2-1?), Holmgren -could be wrong here, (Packers 1-1), Seifert (49ers, Panthers 2-1?) Belicheck (Pats, 2-0) Yeah, I went and counted them up I found 40 different coaches... that is really interesting! 40 coaches for 80 teams!
  2. Yeah, that's the problem here-- I don't think that he should have been the head coach. He tried to make an absurd power play and it blew up in his face. It does take a mighty ego to do some of the stuff that he did. Hey, maybe if he would have made some agreement to remain the DC he could have proven that his ego is justified. However, trying to play chicken with a bulldozer when all you have is a bike, albeit a bad-assed bike, is pretty stupid. I would guess that he didn't even get a look for the job. Hell, I don't even know if they should have canned solich after that season. Sure, I thought he was pretty much a piece of crap, but I think he was waking up and starting to move in the right direction. It would have been worth keeping him if only to see if pelini would mature. I didn't mind the explosion after the KSU game as much as some-- to me it shows that he was REALLY in the game but needed to learn to control that passion. I'd rather have that than see shots of our coach sqatting on the ground and appearing to space off duing the USC game. God, who didn't see that and then suddenly get hit with the impression that he really didn't actually care that much? This isn't the pros, you can't just eat a loss and expect to get into the playoffs.
  3. You have got to be joking. Bo Ruud is awful. He is slow. He is the worst tackler in the big 12. I watched the game Saturday with 3 former starting linebackers and they all made fun of him. To a tee their opinions were that he was awful. The interception fell in his hands. The two longest plays mizzou had were due to his screw ups. I ave ever in my life seen a LB so afraid to hit someone. He has an ok game and that is the best he'll get. Octavien is way better and needs to start ahead of him when healthy. The 3 linebackers i was (all played in the 90's) said and i quote " the only LB on this team that would have played when we were there is Octavien interesting stuff
  4. Really not a thing in there you can argue about, especially the above comment. It sounds, according to the LSU players, he's running very similiar defense when he was here. He also has great athletes down there, something NU obviously didn't have. So in conclusion, ATHLETES WIN GAMES NOT THE COACHES Does anyone here ever stop to wonder if a good coach can make decent atheletes appear to be much better while a poor coach can make them appear to be incompetent? Can you empirically demonstrate the level of atheleticism other than the performances that they put on under the direction of a coach? Did we have horrible athletes the year before Pelini showed up and then lose them all after he was gone? I'm not saying that I think that what you're saying is wrong, but it sure seems narrow to say that it's one or the other. If you can't tell me that a great coach can't make a huge difference between major Div I programs, then I ask you, why are they there? If you averaged out the "athleticism" (and how do we measure that?) across the top 15 or even 25 schools' defenses, then I would bet that they'll be pretty close. It's the schemes, strategies, and abilities to adjust to and predict the other teams' strategies and tactics and making sure that the players are in the right positions to stop those plays. You think that Missouri had guys wide open in the endzone (with no one even close) because our guys are less athletic? Sure, grixby fell down but he was at least THERE. When our dbacks are there and just doing poorly, yeah, that's on them. But when there is no one there, when our linebackers are out of position and have been neutralized, that's on the coach for picking the wrong scheme. We we keep doing the same things and failing, that's on the coach. It's like mind & body. Sure, players have to be smart to make those quick decisions, read the QB's eyes, and all of that, but it's the coach who has to make sure that they're in a place that they can actually do that... Oh well... I'm sure that this is something that we all agree on, but saying that it's the players not the coaches is silly. It's a strong interplay of the two and I think that our D has enough talent to really benefit from a great coach.
  5. Yeah, it would suck if we were to lose next week because we, the fans who aren't even going to be near the field, got ahead of our selves and talked about the Big 12 championship. We might not cheer loudly enough at our TVs and, as a result, the huskers will lose to A&M. We, as observers, have to remain focused on only the next game; our beer-drinking, chip-eating, and inconsequential web posts needs to remain tight, on task, and determined. If we start drinking beers while thinking or posting about the championship weeks in advance, well, we have no one to blame but ourselves when we lose sight of the short term goals: drinking beer and yelling at the TV during the A&M and CU games!
  6. That was YOU! I thought I saw a black hat!
  7. I hope we win, I really do... but there is a team in the basement of the B12S that hung 41 on us that this texas team beat by 26. I'm guessing that it's going to be more like UT 48 NU 19 They'll watch the MU tapes and see all of the wide open receivers and tear us apart. All of those open guys in and around the end zone really left me unsettled. HOWEVER-- if we patch up the holes that let those guys get open in the first place, I think that we'll see a score much like our first match up but with us on top! Which defense will show up?? Is that a coin-toss when it comes to making a call like this? NU 28 UT 24 The sick thing is that after OSU I have my hopes (latter score) but then I have a huge amout of data that says something totally horrible could happen!! AHHH! We need them all to crack open their secret ensignia rings and pop the Underdog Super Energy Pills!
  8. Polls dont matter if you win out. No matter where Nebraska starts in the polls, if they win out at a 13-0 they will be in the NC game. OU didnt blow out many of thier opponents when they won the NC. They just won all thier games. Style points only matter if you are trying to get in as a 1 loss team, and being in the big12 north, the only way we get in with one loss is if everyone else has 2. Callahan did take a team to the superbowl. Only some 30 odd coaches have managed that, you dont do it on accident. I really don't pay enough attention to proball, so I'm asking this seriously: have there really been that many repeat coaches in the superbowl? I can see how it's entirely possible... I'm just curious.
  9. Haha-- after purify threw that TD, I Thought that it would be an interesting offense to hvae 2 or 3 people lined up in the back at a shot gun depth. THe play call would decide who got the ball... I don't know if that would be valuable, but it would definitely be strange. I don't mean an occasional direct snap, either... I mean an offense built around the notion of several key leaders in the backfield who can run, throw, etc... I don't know... I wonder if that could be worked out but without being gimmicky.
  10. In the age of digital TV, it would be really great (and probably a simple matter) to be able to drop streams. I would LOVE to be able to block out commentary and have only good, loud croud noise in DD 5.1. Wouldn't that be great? Croud noise the whole time... Get in on the Husker Power chant... right /left... front back... however they would set up the mics... Crank the tunnel walk... man... Who listens to them anyway? I mean, during the ... oh man! What game was that on PPV? The stupid, stupid anouncers kept going ON and ON AND OOOONNNN about whether or not the QB's arm was going forward and didn't even notice the clear interception! Who pays them and why?? Why do I want to listen to that blather? Why do I want to listen to Musberger bad mouth NE. Ohh Speaking of that, and as a flash back, did anyone notice that when we put that first TD on texas that he didn't say a word for about a minute? It was worth listening to hear him shut the hell up.
  11. Well, the school was around for ~102 years before we won the first one... hehehe.
  12. I think our issues in the secondary are hamstringing the whole defense. I whole heartly agree I *know* that i just mentioned it, but did you see the wide-open guys in the endzone? That spells trouble for us if we have anyone left on our schedule that has 1) a qb who can throw accurately 2) a VCR. Gahh... I felt sick on that play where grixby fell down... coulda been an easy six if QB could have not over-thrown him.
  13. We lucked out that their QB could NOT hit the wide open receivers in the endzone. Goddamn... that could have been a nasty, nasty game
  14. also for half time they only play to the east stadium. I think in pregame they stagger and play to east and west. I kind of like them at halftime. It's the homecoming blather that I can't stand.
  15. It's called fans and I use the term loosely that only started watching Nebraska during the early 90's. In other words I like to label them "fareweather fans"! Now I have to disagree there because I started watching the Huskers when I was 13 years old and that was in '93. I'm going to stand behind this team regardless and if you look at my posts you'll see what I mean. It just comes down to standing behind your team and that's a lot harder than just turning you back on your team and bad mouthing them. IMO Hahah... yeah, we're not ALL 60 years old here Also, I just didn't care much for football until I was able to finally play it (which started in the 90s). My saturdays tended to be filled with paper route stuff before that. In highschool we had practice on saturdays and I had to go to work afterwords (of course, the managers never believed that we had football pracitce on saturdays).
  16. So your saying the odds of Nebraska setting higher goals, is the same as you making 200 million. Good faith there. Are you okay?
  17. I agree... I also agree with everyone else re: down's. I think that "strongest kid on the chess team" would have been just as effective.
  18. I cringe(d) everytime I seen the LB's moving up into the box to show blitz. It was to the point I was screaming "Don't blitz! Don't blitz!" I made a post on another forum one time showing what Coz' defenses ranked when he was at Wiscosin vs. what NU's was prior to and after his arrival. Needless to say, he doesn't have a very good track record (you can go here to see his rankings from the past but for some insight, in '03 NU finished 11th in Total Defense and Wisconsin finished 43rd...in 04 we finished 56th...Wisconsin finished 9th ) although I'm willing to give him at least one more year to see how things work out. I wonder if that is a coincidence or a sign??? It's a correlation and a somewhat interesting one
  19. Here's hoping we pound MO next week.
  20. It's not bandwagoning to say that we should not have been blown out by Oki State. We shouldn't have been. I think that the coaches and players can do some really great, amazing thigns, but then there is a day like today. SOMETHING went wrong. Is it bandwagoning to NOT fall back on a hollow statement like "bad day" or "did their best." Jackson is wicked good, that much is clear. But what was going on wiht our D? Where were our line backers? I don't know the answer-- either the schemes were bad or the players were. There isn't a mystical 4th element (I mean, OSU is the basement of the south... we had the leader of the south pinned against the wall) that came in and just made things fail. Players, schemes, calls, or decisions. What you don't get is that people complain BECAUSE they love the huskers and want them to be better. 2nd thing is that nothing we say here will affect the team one way or the other... it's fun to speculate as to what went wrong. If we just want to say "Had a bad day" or "didn't get the breaks" then every post should just be a multiple choice check sheet. I don't know WHAT went wrong exactly... what I did see is us get schooled by the people under the stairs of the south. Is the north that bad? Are the 'skers that bad? No... We have a lot of tallent, at least enough to push texas around pretty well. To quote Achebe, Things Fall Apart-- but things fall apart for a reason.. they don't fall apart because they fell apart. That's a totally empty, viciously circular way of thinking that isn't interesting or an entertaining extension of the game. I still am a fan. I became a bigger fan when things started to take a turn for the worse! Our 50% season was the season that pulled me in the most! Oh sure, 94&5 and up until crouch left were amazingly fun to watch.. .but, and this goes especially for the 95-6 season, a perfect team isn't interesting. What is there to analyze? HOw wicked sick we are? Yeah! Totally awesome to watch! These games where we fail, thoguh, are really cool to discuss becaues there are so many different possibilities... Oh well, if you don't get criticism of thigns you love, then that's your thing and i respect that. Go Big Red
  21. And you should try hooked-on-phonics. Grammar first, ramblings second. Stop attacking husker fans, damn bandwagoners. Phonics education doesn't teach gammar.
  22. There is no possible way you can blame BC for the Raiders. Look at the f-ing owner...he is the biggest clown ass in the NFL. :hmmm I second that wank.
  23. What are you talking about??? So how many years did the KU loss last year set us back??? BTW, 3 years ago we were playing pretty well IMO... Well, it's more like 3 years before the last 3 years and maybe 3 coaches before that... yeah... that's what it did. Really, though, if I were a defensive recruit, I would be a little worried seeing this much variance in our defensive play.
