  1. I hate to say this but I wouldn't be surprised if they've decided to pack it in for the year.  It's a road game and cold.  They need to win 2 road games to be bowl eligible.  If they believe that to be unlikely then a win today doesn't mean much.

Difference is I see blocking in this video.

Kind of depressing watching that video seeing OL flying around.  I’m convinced TO’s offense would work well today.  Block well and good things happen. Block poorly and it doesn’t matter what offense you run.

No, those aren't the only two possibilities.  We could have gotten quite a bit worse, as we were in 2017.

My bad.  All of these bad seasons are starting to blur together.  I just ran out of fingers and toes counting the wins since 2014.

Quick what year is it?  If I didn't wake up from a 15 year sleep, why should I be content with the 2nd best defense in the past 5 years?  Better than last year???  There was only 2 possibilities- stay the same or get better.

What seems to be overlooked in this whole thread is the importance of the offensive line.

How many great line have made mediocre RB's look amazing?  A hell of a lot more than a RB making an offenive line look good.

I think Wisconsin had a slew of running backs that didn't amount to much in the NFL.

Yeah, I think Moos knew that this was more than just an Xs and Os on the field problem, and in particular he realized how undisciplined the team was. Here's a quote from Frost from early last year:

Moos is a guy who has been an AD at four schools going back almost 30 years, with close to another decade as an assistant AD. He's seen some stuff. If he can say something's the worst he's seen, it's probably pretty bad.

I remember that plane anecdote.  After Frost signed the contract Moos probably said "Sucker!" and got him up to speed on what was going on with his beloved Huskers.  We've had a couple of games with lower penalty yardage but with the Davis bros it's kind of hard to tell if the team is more disciplined and doing the right things.  Someone should check out the plane after they get back from Lafayette.

Talent issue is strange.  Attrition adjusted recruiting rankings say we should have talent but the eyeball test says differently.  Player development has been poor for a long time.  I think we need to look into what these Life Skills (or whatever it's called) program people are telling the players.  Maybe they are telling them facts like few players make it to the NFL and they should focus on classes, blah blah blah.  That seems like it could demotivate players and almost guarantee that they don't make it to the NFL.  Maybe the message should also be we're Nebraska and we put a lot of players into the NFL so statistics don't apply.  I know I'm grasping at straws but something is going on in Lincoln.

I'm sorry, but I have never missed a court date...  its something that you don't tend to forget..  I'm also pretty sure the University was aware of the date and has people making sure their student athletes are aware of where they are suppose to be..

I know someone whose father has that job at another B1G school.

I was good with Pelini’s record.

Record under Pelini was OK but didn't help an outsider's perception where blowout losses in most big time prime time games provided the biggest impression.  Of course, losing seasons in the last 4 of 5 has altered that perception.

  9. Something strange is going on in Lincoln.  We used to turn 2 and 3 stars into 4 stars.  Now we turn 4 stars into 3 stars.  That's makes a turnaround difficult.

Moreover, losing makes it hard to find winners. You think Alabama and Ohio State get the best players because those kids love their facilities best? Heck no. They want to win.

My best guess is it would involve head trauma removal from the game.  From my small corner of the state of Nebraska, football is slowly becoming extinct.  A lot of local schools have had to play 8 man because they can't get enough guys to go out to field an 11 man team.  One local school is set to vote sometime in the next few months whether they drop to 8 man.  This is a school that has close to 100 boys in high school.

Wow, that's astonishing.  I know Nebraskans are conservative and figured there would be an overreaction to all the news about head injuries.  On the other hand, the dream of playing for the Big Red should keep participation up.  We have nobody to blame for the decline of the Huskers but ourselves.  It's disingenuous to expect success from a sport that you wouldn't let your own son play.  If I was a parent in Nebraska who didn't let their son play football because of CTE concerns, I wouldn't complain about the Huskers being bad.  That's like insisting they need to import good players that are willing to take the risk.  We've lost the core support for the sport in the state.  We shouldn't be surprised or disappointed that the state's university program is bad.

My prediction is that this is less of a big deal than people make it. Some kids will make some money with merchandise or being in cheesy local commercials. It'll be a piece of recruiting, but it won't drastically change it. I don't think it will drastically shift the sport and if it does it'll likely be in favor of Nebraska and other big money schools.

We can look at what SMU players were getting payed to figure out where this could end up.  It was fairly well known that a recruiting bid for Marcus Dupree's commitment was $100K if I remember correctly.  I don't recall what Cam Newton was rumored to cost.  Whether true or not, the rumored amounts were plausible.  Everyone knows this will create inequalities between schools but nobody knows to what degree.  If your prediction is true and only small money will be paid out to some players then why venture down that road?  Is it worth risking a drastic shift in CFB (in case predictions are wrong) to correct a perceived injustice to only a small number of players?

I am opposed to paying college athletes.  I think the NCAA should bar member teams from playing against any school that allows players to be compensated.

I agree.  Buckle up, we're headed down a slippery slope.

Don't hold your breath on this one :)

If the NCAA thinks the players are being exploited by the college or NCAA, perhaps some rules changes could be made to share likeness revenues by putting money in a blind trust for the players.
