  1. ... because I'm cool finagling a Med Red for Stanton SEC-style.

Oh man, Tommy as a Sophomore-Junior-Senior and then Stanton as a Junior-Senior. We'd be set until 2019!

Enough time for Bubba Starling to fizzle out of baseball and finally get to Lincoln to suit up, eh?

  2. The more I read about Spring Practice, and I know its still way early, the more excited I get about the 2013 season. The Program that is Nebraska Football is teaching boys how to become men. You can see it in their eyes, the way they talk. I know not a lot it being said to the media, but it's not "I am, I am gonna, I will.." Its "We". The only I that I have seen is "How will I work to the best of my abilities to help the team".

Nebraska's defense is rising to the challenge of Bo Pelini and their expectations, and they may surpass them too. 2013 could/should be a rebirth in my opinion and I would love to be right, of the 1983 Scoring Explosion. The major difference could be a Defense to back it up. Call it what you want. Too much Kool Aid, wishful thinking or whatever. But I am supporting this Cornhusker Team with pride for where they have been, and what they are about to become.

I used to get that way every spring for years and years but have learned to ignore that feeling after too much coach-speak, spring game stars who never see the field in the fall, and bluster from bored journalists. I actually do feel that this year is going to be a really good one, but don't read too much into spring practice reports.

  3. This is what I'm currently using:

    pGNC1-2814812t300x300.jpg

I usually lift/run at night around 9 or 10, this stuff really gets me pumped. I've noticed a change in my pumps, along with muscle endurance. GNC has it on sale right now for I think 34.99, when it's normally 64.99 and it doesn't taste like sh#t.

    GNC? Sale?

Do yourself a favor and look for this stuff online. GNC's prices are ridiculous, even when they are on "sale." I jsut looked on SupplementWarehouse and you can get the same stuff for $25. There are other wholesale websites that are probably similar. I would never buy anything from GNC or Complete Nutrition unless it's marked for clearance.

  4. The fact of the matter is that Welker is an above-average player...who is replaceable. It boggles my mind that analysts/the media apparently don't watch Welker run patterns. Even HOFer Michael Irvin spoke today on NFL Network about Welker's "great timing". Please. He runs what is known as a "speed cut", meaning he is immediately taking a curved direction toward the area in which he should receive the ball yards before any defender can even get close to him. After that, it's a matter of reading defences and his quarterback getting him the ball in stride within the proper passing window (and/or in between zones in defensive pass coverage).

Granted, this is not as easy as it sounds, particularly because it depends on both the receiver and QB being in sync - which Brady and Welker so ofter were. But New England runs those patterns ad nauseum for one main reason: It doesn't require a superstar physical talent to perform this receiving duty. It requires an above average one - one that can be replaced once their perceived value exceeds what the team believes his value to be. Honestly - watch Welker run patterns. The ball is there before anyone else is. Simple. It's not like he's making great moves, has blazing speed, or can out-jump/-fight most players for the ball. (Besides, over the last few years, Welker has shown a gap in his hands range, much like a baseball hitter has a gap in their swing - he doesn't catch the balls thrown over his shoulder that require full arm extension. It happened early on in the AFC final last season, and it will happen again.)

Sure, go ahead and like Welker. He's a good player with exceptional stats. But he's more of an effect of the scheme than he is a precipitator. Like I've been saying - watch his patterns. They don't require good moves. When was the last time anyone said "great, athletic move by Welker to lose the defender(s)"? Because he doesn't do that. He runs the offence, just like Edelman did when he stepped in - and also made himself look better than he is. The Pats will move on, and so will Welker. Chances are that if New England falters this season it won't be because they miss their old slot receiver for the last 6 years.

From the comments section of Peter King's SI.com article deriding the Patriots for miscalculating Welker's value. Posting because it makes me feel better. Also I sort of agree.

I don't totally buy that. I would agree that Welker's success was largely a part of the Patriots system, but he was a perfect piece for that system. If he was nothing special as the comments seem to say, other receivers should be able to collect similar numbers, and/or defenses should be able to shut it down. But it hasn't happened.

  5. Rex is going to find himself doing well in the NFL. Might not be that big time play maker, busting down 50+ yard TD's, but he will be that RB who will be that reliable back for short yardage gains with 15-20 yard breaks.

I agree with this. Especially with the way things are in the NFL right now, Rex would be ideal for a lot of teams. You really don't see a lot of feature backs carrying the load anymore, as almost all of the offenses are based on the passing game. Running backs are valuable for changing the pace, picking up short yardage, picking up blitzes, catching little swing passes, etc. Rex is great at those, and he will be a great professional and teammate in the locker room.

  6. One poster on Shaggy claiming his girlfriend lives accross the street from the pi phi house and seeing Rick Barnes leaving that house on numerous occasion in the early am hours.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Major Applewhite pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

  7. I know lots of people may think that Chips Ahoy is a hum-drum generic cookie, but I did some investigative work several years back at the factory where they make the cookies, and when they are warm and fresh off the production line, they are A-f*cking-MAZING. I would probably stab you in the shoulder for a couple of them right now. I can only imagine how good the Chewy ones would be hot and fresh.

Seeing this old thread for the first time brightened my day, by the way.

ok 2 things! What the hell is the first post about in relation to the thread title. And B, why the shoulder? :D

Why the shoulder? Because if I stabbed you in the eye, you wouldn't be able to find any cookies for me.

  9. I was in college when DeAngelo left the program and said some disparaging things about Solich and complained about playing time. The season that he finally left, I purchased a #4 jersey on discount and wore it for Halloween, along with an adult sized diaper and tear drops painted on my cheeks.

That jersey is still in my rotation for gameday wear, though. He did have an amazing freshman year.

  10. I've only been to court once, and I didn't dress up. T-shirt and jeans. I also refused to refer to the judge as "Your Honor". "Sir" sufficed.

I don't buy into the custom of treating judges like royalty.

One of my favorite lines from "A Few Good Men" is when the judge rebukes Jach Nicholson with: "The witness will address this court as Judge or Your Honor. I'm quite certain I've earned it." I love that movie.

A lot of judges can get persnickety about how they are addressed, and every single one of them will demand respect and order in the courtroom. One's attitude and demeanor can go a long way toward making things harder for you or easier for you in the courtroom (and attire can certainly influence how you are perceived as well). And judges and county attorneys tend to remember someone who is making a repeat appearance in their courtroom, especially if you look or sound less than respectful. Most judges are grounded enough in reality that they don't need to be treated like royalty, and most have a good sense of humor, but decorum in the courtroom is a must.

I think a lot of judges will look at it from the perspective that if you can't set aside your ego and attitude for a quick hearing in front of a judge, you probably aren't going to do too well outside of the courtroom either. I work with a lot of juveniles, and stubborn douichebaggery in the courtroom only makes their lives more miserable!

In your case, Dude, "sir" was probably good enough, although it probably wouldn't have done well to tell him why you refused to address him differently. Your attire probably didn't matter if it was a quick hearing in a county court that they were trying to process quickly. Most judges will be pretty understanding that a lot of people won't have fancy clothes for a quick appearance in court and that most won't be remarkably well versed in courtroom etiquette, but they would not tolerate tomfoolery, either.

  11. Wired has exposed the Empire's military incompetence in their analysis of the battle of Hoth:

    http://www.wired.com...battle-of-hoth/

How did the Galactic Empire ever cement its hold on the Star Wars Universe? The war machine built by Emperor Palpatine and run by Darth Vader is a spectacularly bad fighting force, as evidenced by all of the pieces of Death Star littering space. But of all the Empire’s failures, none is a more spectacular military fiasco than the Battle of Hoth at the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back.

From a military perspective, Hoth should have been a total debacle for the Rebel Alliance. Overconfident that they can evade Imperial surveillance, they hole up on unforgiving frigid terrain at the far end of the cosmos. Huddled into the lone Echo Base are all their major players: politically crucial Princess Leia; ace pilot Han Solo; and their game-changer, Luke Skywalker, who isn’t even a Jedi yet.

What did the Empire gain at Hoth? It had the opportunity to deal the Rebel Alliance a defeat from which the Rebels might not have recovered: the loss of its secret base; the loss of its politically potent symbol in Leia; and most of all the loss of its promising proto-Jedi in Luke. Instead, Luke escapes to join Yoda; Leia escapes with Han to Cloud City (where Vader has to resort to Plan B); and the Rebel Alliance’s transport ships largely escape to join up at a pre-established rendezvous point, as we see at the end of the film.

At the very most, the Empire’s assault on Hoth killed a couple of low-ranking Rebels and destroyed a few transit ships — which we don’t even see on screen. Instead of crushing the Rebels, it scattered them, leaving them to survive for the additional successes they’ll achieve in Return of the Jedi. It’s a classic fiasco of overconfidence and theology masquerading as military judgment — and the exact opposite of the Empire striking back.

The entire Star Wars universe is crumbling around us!

  12. If I read nothing other than this thread, I get the impression that this "rumor" is only based on a single tweet in the OP that perhaps could have been a typo. Are there other sources for all of these rumors, or is this just bluster to pass the time during the offseason?

  13. As confused as this young man seems to be, he didn't necessarily have to sign with anyone today. But I suppose making decisions seems to be a difficult task for him, so it's probably better that it's over, and I'm glad the spinning wheel finally stopped at Nebraska. I hope he makes a big impact and enjoys his experience in Lincoln!

  14.

Just so you know. Braxton was not injured by Fisher twisting his ankle. Braxton's injury was caused by his own clumsiness. He high sprained his ankle 2 steps before Fisher got ahold of him. I just dont want it to seem like we hurt a guy to win the game. He hurt himself.

I've watched that game three times and for some reason didn't remember that was the case, thanks! I guess Fisher doesn't make the list after all.

  15. I watched a highlight video some time ago of the 2011 Ohio State game. It wasn't jsut the strip from Braxton Miller - Lavonte David was in on just about every damn play. I agree that that strip (and probably Sean Fisher's twisting of the ankle) was a career saver for Pelini. I had the same thoughts as the posts above when watching that game...

David was amazing. In 2010 against K-State, T-Mart had all the highlight reels, but holy crap David made eleventy hundred tackles in that game. K-State's running back Daniel Thomas came in with a bunch of hype for that game, but he may have well been wearing a Lavonte David dress that night, cuz LD was draped all over him.

  16. I always hear the old-timers saying Jerry Murtaugh was the best. I never saw him play, but when he's on the radio he sounds like John Wayne, so that's gotta count for something.

I do remember McFarlin, Foreman, and Shanle being solid players, but I never recall thinking that they were necessarily that great. Shanle has had a better NFL career than I remember him having in college.

I'm surprised that OP's list doesn't include more impressive names, but it seems like Nebraska has often had LBs who had flashes of brilliance from time to time but didn't really put together stellar careers. Imagine if Will Compton had played his whole career like he did this past season. Imagine if Corey McKeon had not peaked as a sophomore and become the poster boy of the Cosgrove era.
