  1. Such a lame excuse, Miami has a million things to spend the entertainment $$$ on. Hmm... last I checked, so to does Florida and Florida St but they seemingly sell out. Here's the truth, Miami appeals only to thugs and wanna be thugs and that equates to well... probably 10K fans on average that can actually "afford" to doe to buy the ticket. Any rational minded person, be it a Canes fan or not, can't deny that Miami's glory years were based on recruitment of kids that were in many cases academically challenged, not because they weren't smart, because they came from the inner city where life is hard. Did they expand their knowledge and actually contribute to society, in some cases yes. Regardless, the off the field antics, the drugs, the prostitution, on field fights, (announcers that lose their job for applauding and giving their approval regarding on field behavior) and the list goes on. My mother has her nursing degree from Miami and refuses to watch Canes games because in her words, they (the players of the 80's and 90's) were an embarrassment to her. Furthermore, anyone remember a certain Miami player, ESPN analyst that was once quoted as saying "You can't do anything to me, all I have to do is catch another touch down and all is forgotten". He played for the cowboys, speaks openly about his years at the U and running with the thugs to go out and rob some clerk.... There lies the image associated with the Canes program and in it lies the distaste/disdain that so many have for that once competitive uni. Are you saying Miami appeals to fans who are cocky, belligerent, disrespectful, and unknowledgeable? Where in the world would you ever come up with examples to prove this?
  2. Didn't know that had been decided. You really think the NCAA is going to give Miami a 4 bowl game ban? no way Your team has gone three years with a record barely over .500. I'm saying it's not a forgone conclusion they will qualify.
  3. This guy has to be a joke. No way does someone come onto another board and say the things he says and actually be serious about it.
  4. LOL...we may miss the wishbone if we ever actually ran the wishbone.
  5. What???? His mom didn't have any issues. She purchased everything legally. Kid was a nut job. So, you are saying that killing his mom was the right thing to do? I'm still confused on your statement.
  6. Strigori: Just like in any group, there is a mixture of why they do what they do. But, from my experience, here is the general path this goes. 1) An industry is predominately American made. 2) One or two competitors can't compete with quality products or service so the only thing left is competing on price. 3) They sell their soul to China so they can import products much cheaper than the American competitors. 4) The American public sees this and gets all excited that they can get XYZ product dirt cheap and start buying that product. 5) The American made products lose market share and start losing money because they can't cut prices any more while manufacturing in the US. 6) It is either go out of business or move their manufacturing to China also. Now, admittedly that is a generalization and any one industry can deviate from that somewhat. But, in my example, the first few companies that start buying from China screw the rest of the industry. And, you are right, labor and the related costs of OSHA and benefits are a problem. I'm advocating doing the same as far as wages and worker safety as I am with environmental regulations. There are also many industries that are not labor intensive and the above example of the steel industry is an example of that. In the report I posted it states that the environmental regulation costs are more of a factor in that industry than the labor issues. Also, I have absolutely no confidence in the American public caring about American made. Now, I'm talking the majority. Sure you can find some people who care. But, on average, the American consumer doesn't care as long as they can buy something cheaper.
  7. At least thus decision makes sense. He was down top two good programs with all the fans and resources in the world and playing for conference championships. Still don't get the other one.
  8. She would need to sit out a year...right?
  9. F. He thought he knew what he wanted because a bunch of people told him that's what he should do.....he realizes at the last minute that's not really what he wants.
  10. So you are really going back to what you always do in threads on this instead of actually discussing the subject? You must not have much to say on the subject.
  11. Wow...you really had to work to twist my words around that much.
  12. Here is a report from 2009 on the Chinese steel industry. LINK From the executive summary: The steel industry in the US has been devastated by imports. It literally is non-existent anymore and that was literally hundreds of thousands of jobs that left. I don't want the US steel industry manufacturing and polluting like the Chinese steel industry. I want the Chinese steal industry manufacturing as though it were in the US under our laws if it wants to import those products to the US.
  13. Yes back in 2002.... Really???? Ten years ago???? There has been two complete coaching changes since then.
  14. To Carl: What???? What I have said is, if you continue to put more and more regulations on American manufacturer without fixing the problem (like the lead based product I pointed to earlier in this thread) of other countries not giving a sh#t, we will continue to lose jobs. I have repeatedly said I do not want to relax those laws in the US. I enjoy our environment and safe working environments. As a manufacturer, then don't expect me to be able to compete with a product that can be manufactured 30-40% less expensively. You can talk all you want about advertising "American Made"....for the most part, the public doesn't give a flying rats azz.
  15. I don't think that Mexico, China, and the Pac Rim countries are the countries that we should be comparing to the United States. From this comment, you are obviously completely missing my point. I AM NOT ASKING FOR OUR LAWS TO BE BROUGHT DOWN TO THEIR LEVEL.
  16. I don't think that Mexico, China, and the Pac Rim countries are the countries that we should be comparing to the United States. it is funny that he would even compare us to them. they are peasant countries, yet his solution is that we replicate their business models. Please show me where I have said anything of the sort. From my post above:
  17. If I have time, I try to look something up. May be I will be able to and maybe I can't. (Pssst....that's why the world "probably" is in there) BUT, it is obvious that we have much stricter labor and environmental laws than countries like Mexico, China and other pacific rim countries that we are competing against directly for jobs.
  18. Your chart is impressive. But, they are our largest foreign owner of our debt. Even though they appear to own a small part, they hold a certain level of power over us. Sad but true. Our countries are very sadly tied very tightly together. LINK You are correct, China needs our markets. BUT, my proposal would eliminate their competitiveness in our markets and drastically shrink what they would be importing to the US. That would be a HUGE threat to their economy and they could take drastic measures to secure their future. Contrary to popular belief, companies DON"T WANT to deal with having stuff made in China and imported to the US. It is literally a pain in the azz. So, if the competitive advantage to doing it is eliminated, that manufacturing is brought back to the US. That destroys the Chinese side of the relationship that is "too big to fail" as described in this article. If China no longer has this an advantage in this market, they have no reason to support it with their debt. All of that is why American politicians are scared to death to threaten China's economy with trade restrictions. I would answer them by saying I want clean air and water and a high wage also. BUT, a company can not compete with that if the playing field is not level. Right now we have probably the strictest labor and environmental laws combined as any country in the world. I'm not for relaxing them. I AM for forcing other countries to play by the same rules if they want to import their products to our market.
  19. Simply replying to the conversation already started. There is a huge difference between the two. One causes instant sorrow and is a devastating disaster emotionally and the victims have no choice. The other causes sorrow and heart ache over time and is a long term disaster and the victims don't even think about their choice.
  20. Hmmm.....going to a school known for cheating, being recruited by Pete Carrol's son who was with Pete at USC when they caused the hammer to come down. Nope....not implying anything.
  21. There are one hell of a lot more people who die from eating crap like McDonalds than are killed in mass school shootings. AND, the cost of eating like that on society is enormous.
  22. BUT.....that will never happen because politicians are scared to death of the Chinese due to them owning so much of our debt. So....instead of admitting that, they will campaign on stiffening employment and environmental law even more and then ridicule companies who ship their jobs over seas. It really is a great way of getting the majority of people to vote for you after all....who wouldn't be for cleaner water and air, higher wages and being against that big evil company that closed the plant on the edge of town?
  23. How? Make imports abide by the same laws we do. Brazil has very high tariffs on products being imported that directly compete with an industry in their country. I'm not specifically for a blanket high tariff. But, is there a way to put a high tariff on a product being produced in a factory that doesn't abide by our environmental laws? Is there a way to put a tariff on a products that are not produced with employees not making our minimum wage? Pardon me if I have described this before on here. Can't remember if I did here or on the last board I was at. I know of a product that is illegal to produce in the US with lead in it. BUT, it can be produced in China and imported with lead in it and sold. How? Because the law says it simply can't be produced here with lead. BUT, it can be SOLD here with lead. In this particular product, lead is a much less expensive ingredient than what is used here in the US. This is just in one industry I know of. What other industries are out there that are the same way?
