Never cared for Sen Scott.  He is fumbling with his words because the GOP is in an untannable position now with the abortion laws.  The only 'bright spot', if you want to call it that,  is that this will surely lead to Trump's defeat and will also secure the house and senate for the Dems - which could bring moderation on this issue.  Not that the House & Senate will be able to control states, but rather gaining the house and senate may help down ticket candidates at the state level.  Except here in Okla where the filing dead line has passed and the GOP is assured continued control, before the casting of any votes,  of the Okla House and Senate due to the total # of unchallenged races.  This will lead to more engrained corruption as the GOP gains absolute power in the state.

IMHO, The GOP missed the opportunity with Haley - I think she would have worked towards some national consensus on this issue - as a woman leader- she can see both sides.

Letitia James to Begin Claiming Donald Trump's Properties: Lawyer

An insurance company will not be permitted to post a $175 million bond for Donald Trump while he appeals a fraud judgment, a former federal prosecutor has said.

Eric Lisann was reacting to a separate comment by another lawyer, Dave Kingman, who wrote that Knight Specialty Insurance will not be able to post the bond for Trump.

Kingman wrote that, as a result, New York Attorney General Letitia James will be able to begin enforcement proceedings on Donald Trump's properties.

A New York court has rejected Knight Specialty's paperwork and said it wanted to see more information on its financial backing. The company filed new paperwork on April 4.

Trump must post the $175 million bond to prevent James from beginning enforcement proceedings after a judge fined the former president $454 million in February for fraudulently inflating the value of his assets.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, one-time federal prosecutor Lisann wrote that Knight Speciality might not be able to post the bond for Trump and will be liable for the full amount because it had given a guarantee to the court.

"Looks like there is a real possibility that this Don Hankey-owned Knight Specialty Insurance does not itself have liquidity, and did not get from Trump collateral, sufficient to provide legally cognizable assurance that it can pay $175 million on demand in the event of a judgment-affirming appeal," he said.

"But the Trumpian part is that even though, or perhaps because, it may be part of a Trump scam, Knight now too may be on the hook for $175 million as it won't automatically get out from underneath its own proffered surety."

Hankey, a billionaire, has already said that his company will be able to post the money for Trump.

He was reacting to a comment on X by lawyer Dave Kingman, who wrote that Knight will not be able to post the $175 million.

"Understand that Knight Specialty has a problem. This bond cannot be approved. Under the CPLR [Civil Practice Laws and Rules] the surety will remain obligated under the bond until a replacement bond is filed. Trump is unlikely to get a replacement bond. Knight Spec will be liable AND Trump won't have a stay [on enforcement]," he wrote.

So If I read that correctly - The Fraudster, pulled another con, this time on a Knight Specialty - who may have been involved in the con.  But since their bluff was called, Knight, the assistant fraudster, will be on the hook for the bond while the # 1 Fraudster is off the hook for it:dunno

    Legal minds please clarify.

Trump's bond situation still has some issues to be worked out.

Trump Bond Pickle - going from sweet to sour??

    Quote

The $175 million bond former President Donald Trump posted in his civil fraud case came under scrutiny Thursday as the New York attorney general’s office asked the insurance company that helped him secure it to show they’re financially sound enough to pay the bond—putting the bond at risk of being invalidated in 10 days if proof isn’t provided.

Trump and his business associates posted bond on Monday for $175 million in his civil fraud case, after an appeals court lowered the amount that Trump had to pay immediately while he appeals the case (down from the more than $464 million a judge ordered the defendants to pay after finding them liable for fraud).

That bond was underwritten by Knight Specialty Insurance Company—chaired by billionaire Don Hankey, who told Forbes he approached Trump about the bond, which he said was collateralized through a combination of cash and investment-grade bonds.

The attorney general’s office, which brought the case against Trump, filed a motion Thursday asking for Knight to provide more information about its financials and how the bond was collateralized, because the company is not admitted in New York.

For companies providing bonds that aren’t admitted in New York, they have to show they’re capable of covering the full amount of the bond, demonstrating the company is financially sound and that the person who owes money has put up enough collateral to cover the full bond.

Trump and his co-defendants filed an updated bond with the court on Thursday—before the attorney general’s filing—that included more information about the company’s financials and certified their accuracy, but the attorney general’s office said that does not fully address what the company and defendants are required to provide.

Trump and his co-defendants now have 10 days to provide the court with additional information about the bond and Knight’s financials, the attorney general’s filing notes—and if they don’t, the bond will be “without effect,” though Knight would still be on the hook to pay the $175 million until Trump secures a new bond.

Trump’s attorneys and Knight have not yet responded to requests for comment on the attorney general’s filing and whether they will file more proof.

    What To Watch For

The ex-president is appealing his loss in the civil fraud case, though it’s unclear how long that will take. While the appeals court has allowed him to only post the $175 million bond while he appeals the ruling, he and his co-defendants will still be liable for the full amount they owe should they lose their appeal. That amount is growing by the day, as it accrues at a nine percent interest rate each year—amounting to more than $111,000 per day for Trump alone, who’s been ordered to pay more than $454.2 million in total. (The rest of the $464 million payment is based on $4 million fines for Eric Trump and Donald Trump, Jr., and $1 million owed by ex-CFO Allen Weisselberg.) Interest will keep accruing until the amount is fully paid off, despite the bond and Trump appealing the judgment.

  5. Trump and his family's cozy relationship with the Saudi prince may be trouble for Biden during this election season.

    Quote

Is Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman trying to sabotage Joe Biden’s reelection bid? It’s quite possible. The Saudi leader, known as MBS, has made clear his disdain for President Biden, and his fury over insults lobbed at him by this White House. He is a powerful force behind the current surge in oil prices, which could — if sustained — contribute to Biden’s defeat.

Oil prices are soaring — up 19 percent since the start of the year. Since they lag behind crude oil, gasoline prices have only jumped 14 percent so far. But, unless oil markets take a giant step backwards, prices at the pump will steadily increase into the summer driving season and pummel Biden’s popularity.

This happened two years ago. As gasoline prices rose to an all-time high of $5 per gallon in June 2022, Biden’s approval ratings tanked. He started the year at 43.2 percent approval and by the July 4 holiday, when millions of Americans take to the roads, he had slipped to 38.1 percent.

Why are oil prices rising? There are a number of factors, including Russia’s war against Ukraine, turbulence and fear of escalation in the Middle East and also some revival in China’s growth and demand for energy. But it is the ongoing production cuts agreed to by OPEC+, engineered in large part by Saudi Arabia, that are really lifting prices.

In recent days, OPEC+ held a ministerial meeting at which members recommitted to continuing voluntary cuts of 2.2 million barrels per day until June. The decision had been expected, but nonetheless signaled that Saudi Arabia and Russia, the world’s leading oil exporters, are determined to keep prices high. MBS is the key decision-maker for Saudi Arabia; by virtue of the kingdom’s unique position as “swing producer,” he is also the dominant voice within OPEC+.

For Russia, high oil prices are critical to winning its battle with Ukraine. Biden, after Putin invaded its neighbor, boasted that the U.S. and its allies were imposing draconian penalties to hold Moscow accountable. Biden said, “The totality of our sanctions and export controls is crushing the Russian economy.” He cited the sharp decline of the ruble and predicted the Moscow stock exchange would “probably collapse.”

Since that day, one month into the conflict, the ruble has rebounded 47 percent and the main Russian stock index is up 37 percent, only 25 percent below its all-time high. How has Russia managed? By teaming with the Saudis to curtail production and boost oil prices.

For the Russians, high oil prices are a matter of survival. For the Saudis, skyrocketing oil costs are essential to fulfilling the grandiose economic vision of MBS. They are also key to exacting revenge against Biden, who early on went out of his way to insult the young heir apparent. The White House indicated it intended to “recalibrate” its relationship with the Saudis, and especially with MBS, who had worked successfully with the Trump White House.

Having vowed on the campaign trail in 2019 to make Saudi Arabia “the pariah that they are,” Biden initially shunned the crown prince, agreeing to speak only to his ailing father King Salman. In addition, the White House released a report accusing MBS of responsibility for the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and terminated sales of offensive weapons needed by Saudi Arabia to conduct its war in Yemen. Moreover, Biden rescinded Trump’s terror designation for the Houthis, despite the group having attacked Saudi oil infrastructure.

Worse, the Biden team attempted to revive the nuclear deal with Iran, Saudi Arabia’s bitter enemy.

Early in Biden’s presidency, the Saudis surprised oil traders by leading OPEC to not increase oil output, despite rising demand; prices jumped 4 percent. It was MBS’s first salvo, reminding Biden of the importance of the U.S.-Saudi alliance, which has been in place since 1945, and of his own ascendance.

    It's astronomically smaller.

And that doesn't mention the devout Christians who abuse their kids, physically, emotionally, and worse.

And yet little to no ink is spilled on these pages about that by the same people who are ENRAGED by a coincidence of holidays.

I, as a Christian, am not offended the least by the TG day. I don't have to defend my faith, my God, My Christ because of it.  If God's essential nature is love (and it is - all other attributes are defined by love), then God isn't offended.  No reason for me to be.  God's nature isn't judgment, his actions towards us aren't retributive - it is always based on love.  We are each set on our own personal journey and I believe that journey ultimately takes us to knowing and experiencing the God of love - whether in this life or the next.

Unfortunately, the average Christian isn't that much different then the average Joe who isn't a Christian.  As you mention, many appear devout on the outside but are battling demons of their own on the inside - which leads to abuse of self and others.   I know this all too well - in years past, I allowed anger, the result of the need to control out of deep wounding by my parents to lead me to hurt those I love (not physically but emotionally).   But experiencing healing has enabled me to rise above abusive words of anger - as I have experienced the healing love of God in a fresh and new way in my 60s (at age 68 - I'm probably one of the oldest on HB).   So that is my journey. I'm very sadden by those who profess faith but remain abusive.  They like those who don't profess faith & who are abusive still need to confront those demons and find their path to healing.  Of course, sometimes it takes jail time for that to occur for some.  Until then, their confession of faith is just that - words not lived out - a form of godliness without the power.  :rant

I think Nebraska is going to kick their a$$ to be honest. The defense is going to match up well and our offense will be much better in handling the game and not turning the ball over. Nebraska has a better roster and ended with the better team last year.

How about some :koolaid2:     We win the first 7 and 3 out of our last 5.    This year we finally beat Iowa and Wiscy in the same year.

But it’s nothing to worry about right now because it doesn’t have B1G or SEC backing (because they would be taking a pay cut to do this).
