This would be teams like Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, etc.

I'd be pretty excited to follow that after the past decade...

I just dont see us getting back to being a top 10 team every single year. Maybe I am wrong and Mickey and Busch can get our talent level back to elite across the board but I would think we need a few more recruiters at their level as well as massive booster NIL support to get that to happen.

I don't get the concern for Thompson's hand being an issue into next season or even Spring practice.  It was basically a severely sprained thumb that needed rest to heal.  Thompson probably shouldn't have been playing the last half of the season for Texas, but he did what he could to help out the team.  It was also an injury that didn't need surgery or rehab.  It's just something that needs to rest, heal, and have the swelling come down.

Said he hasnt thrown a football for 8 weeks. I would imagine a few more weeks rest and rehab and he should be ready to sling that mutha

Exactly. There is no reason - NONE - why we can't be on the level of Wisconsin.

during our time in the B1G we have recruited well enough to play for the B1G championship 80% of the time. Every year but this last year I believe we have been ranked the top class in the West. EVEN with losing season on top of losing season we have been able to use the N to bring in high enough level talent to compete for conference titles. The fact we havent is a complete joke at this point.

I'm afraid Nebraska might be too far gone to ever be an elite college football program again, so what I think should happen doesn't even factor into the equation anymore for me.

I'm hopeful that having a QB that has a track record of taking care of the football will translate into a winning record.  And that's about as much as I can realistically hope for at this point.

I am content with being a top 25 program with an occasional top 10 team every few years. I honestly feel like that may be our ceiling now.

Suppose we won six games this previous season. And few if any changes were made.

Now be honest. Are we fortunate having only won three with the changes that have been made?

No because changes should have been made after the prior season. Winning 6 would also have shown that we improved and the coaches that let go would have improved.

Yep...but we didn't.  So, here we are.  I guess fans can dwell on being pissed about the past or look forward to the future.

I dont disagree, just harder to "get excited" so to speak. Staff changes and a hopeful recruiting boost with having Joseph and Busch on staff will help as I feel like we upgraded with every hire Frost made this offseason with the one unknown being OL. Joseph and Busch can get us back to top 25 classes.

Your expectations haven't fallen.  You just know that first we need to get to winning seasons before we can think about reaching for championships.

You still expect the program to ultimately get to winning championships.

It is just so damn frustrating. We made staff changes...changes that should have occurred a couple years ago.

Yea. But had we improved even slightly this year, would we be able to stake claim as best 3 win team EVER?  I mean, what would you rather have, a 4th win or an immortal place in history?!

I'd prefer having a winning season...which I currently cannot believe how far my expectations for our program have fallen.

I truly believe the SF has two years. His hires need at least two years to teach and implement. Trev is smart and understands this. Nevertheless, if there’s a repeat of 3 to 4 wins, There will be a lot of outside pressure to pull the trigger, rightfully so. I also agree that a bowl game should be the lowest bar, and I am a SF supporter.

with even below average improvement we are a bowl team.

I personally hope this team turns the corner and starts winning games consistently so Frost can be here for the foreseeable future. But let's be honest, if 2022 is ANOTHER losing record, especially with the easier schedule and the lower buyout amount, how do you justify keeping Frost again? Trev isn't releasing the details of the benchmarks he has agreed to with Frost, so only time will tell, but hopefully we don't have to worry about all that.

It really has to be a bottom bar of bowl game.

issue with NU is that we have talented youth, we're sending freshman to redshirt sophomores up against 6th year seniors!   I'm thinking we need to get some juniors/Seniors that have lots of game experience to work the line.  the freshman to sophomores will be really good in 2-3 years when they are seniors.  Unfortunately, these coaches may not be around to see that...

how many 6th year seniors on defensive lines did we face this last year?

Why you guys so dubious on Huskers. We lost all games less than 10 points. Small improvement on O & D will have big factor in record next year, big swing around. If we make small improvement record swings to 9-3

stop being such a debbie downer. 15-0 world champs baby!

What do you mean? We already have like ten analysts & support guys on staff. After Frost fired his offensive assistant coaches, he made a few of those analysts interim coaches. Busch was one of them.

I would imagine any openings we have in the analyst department will be filled once all the hiring and firing settles down after Feb.

We have until April 1st to get down to 88 & 85 by fall practice.  A lot can happen by then.

It honestly isnt hard considering we are at 89 with Cerni medically retiring. If we have to pull a walk on scholarship or 2 for a semester to make numbers work we can. Also gives us flexibility in snagging a few more impact players from the portal.

Not sure how many scholarships are left but hearing a lot of Buzz about Omar coming to NU and same with Nesta Jade Silvera from Miami. Looking at the scholarship distribution chart provided by the OWH we have 90 on scholarship. This still includes Daniel Cerni who I have been told will medically retire. Other names I could see going back to a walk-on status to open up scholarship spots are Trent Hixon, Issac Gifford, Garrett Snodgrass, Wyatt Liewer, along with Jaquez Yant and Damien Jackson (I think those two will probably stay on Scholarship). Others I could see potentially hitting the portal are Eteva Mauga Clements, Mosai Newsome, Alex Conn, One of the 3 Redshirt freshman wideouts, and the 4th string QB. Maybe a RB too.

Gifford was a promised a scholarship after his first year. Snodgrass was always scholarship. If Hixson isnt in the 2 deep he shouldnt have a scholarship. I have no problem with any of the others moving out to make room. I hope we get much more cutthroat in terms of moving non contributors out. You may have handful of guys that you see as long-term projects that you keep but you can't do it to your entire roster.

Well good for Iowa, I guess? I'd still rather have a bunch of older & more experienced guys on the line.

I'm simply saying in the grand scheme of things we didn't have an extremely young OL compared to some of our peers and I don't like that excuse. In all actuality Frost and his staff did a terrible job when they arrived at recruiting enough competent depth at the OL spot. Which is obviously why we are where we are.

Frost came in wanting to do things the way he felt was the right way. Rather than going for a bunch of quick-fix JUCO & transfer guys, he wanted to build for the long-term with guys he picked out of high school, redshirting as many of them as he could, with just a couple top-notch transfers as needed. I think a lot of us were behind that idea when he was hired.

But the 2017 class that Riley left Frost with was just plain disastrous. Almost all of them were gone within two years. Frost's own first class didn't fare a whole lot better. Frost's 'build for the long-term' approach was great in theory, but the implosion of two whole recruiting classes just left too many holes in the roster that couldn't be adequately filled by young and inexperienced guys. You look at the roster, and going into year four we were still really young in some position groups, most notably the offensive line.

I think what we're seeing now is essentially a tacit (and belated) admission from Frost that he's failed to build the kind of experienced core that a team really needs to be successful.

    Better late than never...

Our Oline in terms or time in the program was nearly identical to Iowas starting OL this past season. We went ahead and listed everyone with the added covid year and Iowa did not.
