  1. Po, if this was a court of law and your last post was your rebuttal argument...then that would make me Lionel Hutz. Well done, sir--have to tip my hat to you on this one.
  2. At the last game I saw one person wearing a light green t-shirt and another wearing red with a big cartoonish Wisconsin "W" on his back (do the Warner Brothers ever get mad at the Badgers for stealing their logo, btw?). I think these are much worse examples of not supporting the team than either wearing black because some team members asked OR wearing red because tradition demands it. I'm not against the B******, but I tend to side with the traditionalists on this one. Sure, newbies like Oregon HAVE to do bizarre things with their uniforms to gain attention. Programs with no history of success like Northwestern are going to change their logo, their color scheme, anything they can think of to make people think they're ushering in a new era of unprecedented success. We don't have to resort to gimmicks--we're Nebraska. The premier programs in this country are built on tradition and a long, storied history of success---why would we want to copy other programs whose accomplishments aren't exactly anything to brag about? Just because "everyone's doin' it?" I don't know how often Michigan, Oklahoma, and Alabama have changed their uniforms over the years, but I would guess not very often (and even then, only minor tweaks). Hey, I'll wear black for one game because Taylor Martinez told us to--no problem. But let's cut the traditionalists some slack. If they were Iowa State fans and felt that wearing anything but Cyclone red was an insult to the legacy of that program...then ok--that's illogical. But at a program like Nebraska, tradition carries just a bit more weight, and rightfully so.
  3. I'm in the middle of Volume 1, and what stands out to me so far are the anecdotes about Tom Osborne. The tones of the former players who speak of him in the book range between "reverential" and "awestruck", and the book confirms everything we've always believed about Tom Osborne the coach and the man: the rare sports figure whose iconic status was actually earned and deserved, and whose exceptional leadership stemmed from both the genuine caring for his players and the quiet strength he consistently--flawlessly--projected.
  4. I've heard of the burning bush before, but this? I walked by it yesterday on the way to North Stadium. There was a cop and a couple of marginally interested bystanders, but nobody seemed overly concerned about it. It actually was a little surreal to see people kind of standing around looking helplessly at this smoking tree--I wondered why someone didn't just dump a cooler of melted ice water on the thing and have done with it. But I'm sure they were doing more to put it out than I was able to tell in my 2 minutes on the scene.
  5. I really wanted season tickets in the new section (ended up in North Stadium)--seems like a great view. On a somewhat related note--anyone know where I can find a seating chart of memorial Stadium with actual seat numbers? Trying to get UCLA game tickets for someone who needs an aisle seat.
  6. Awesome story. There really is no place like Nebraska--I'm reminded of how unique our fans are every time I take in a road game.
  7. Would want Rex to win, and I think he would.
  8. One vote here for a Kindle edition. I like the thought of having it downloaded and ready to read within 60 seconds of it becoming available on Amazon.
