You're going to have to explain that leap of logic.

My line of thinking is that boosters and administrators would support the best guy for the job across several relevant KPI's, and not just "leaning" towards coaches (like MJ) that happened to be former players, which is what your post indicated.

    Gotcha.

I was responding specifically about Joseph to another poster, but I can see how it could get more broadly interpreted.

    We'll know soon enough.

But yes, I believe Joseph has a thing or two in his favor.

Unless I misunderstood your post, you said that boosters and administrative folks "will still lean" towards hiring former Husker players as coaches, specifically in reference to MJ. If this was true from a booster and administrative perspective, I would proffer that line of thinking as unintelligent and misguided, particularly after the Frost experiment.

    You and I proffer differently.

In fact, if what you proffer is the booster and administration line of thinking, Joseph should be informed today that because he is a former player....and because Frost failed....he is not really even a viable candidate.

I won't begrudge your opinion, but booster and administrative folks aren't as myopic as we may think. A lot of them are quite intelligent and looking at the same stuff we are, so I don't really buy the "they lean towards former Husker players as coaches" narrative. I also don't believe MJ's perceived leverage or influence will matter that much if he goes 2-7 down the stretch.

I never indicated any booster or administrator lacked intelligence.

You stalking me?:D  I did say that in regards to impacting our objectivity.  Frost, Ruud and Austin come to mind.    And after an embarrassing a$$ beating by Illinois.

.....just proving a point how emotion changes for some posters every other day.

    Or maybe every other hour.

I feel like I have been pretty consistent on my choices.  I also liked what @admohad said regarding to MJ and who we could realistically get.  I have also defended MJ after Illinois that you can't blame hime for this sh!t show. We are still witnessing Frost's hands all over the program.  Read the SI and accompanying Journal article related to MJ's comments on Frost.  Pretty telling.  And yes, the article impressed me.  If I was the AD, i'd liked it.  Straight forward, in your face comments. I like the direct comments and calling out the weak crap he saw as a coach.  And the excuses people use about facilities and recruiting....And yes, I still continue to support Chadwell.  Even after his NCAA violations at Charleston Southern....And Prime. Even after his failed Charter school in Dallas.

    So who do you want?

If I was a betting man it'll be Mickey.

He has significant booster and admin influence.

And while you said no more former Husker players as coaches, boosters will still lean that way.

The conundrum with MJ is that he may very well be really good in the HC role. But as an interim, the reminder of this season has been framed as a tryout for the job. As unfair as it may be (because with this team it will be virtually impossible), if he doesn’t win 3 more and get us bowl eligible, he likely won’t get the gig. IMO that impossible to achieve metric doesn’t indicate if he would/could work out here.

I do think the condition of this program calls for an exhaustive effort to get somebody in here that has a proven record of rebuilding and turning things around. MJ may be great but he doesn’t check that very important box, especially without the 3 more wins.

My response to Lo was simply that on Huskerboard many posters change with the shift in wind direction.

    Or an article.

That was prior to the article.  He gets what needs to be done.  Frost had no clue.  I still think he deserves and interview.  Just like I'd still contact Prime.

    Then I think it'd be great.:D

    You'd contact Chadwell too.

And if an article was written about Chadwell or Prime?......holy smokes what to do?

He deserves a long look as HC.  Get a solid staff and he might be the magic in a bottle we are waiting for....  “Everybody wants Nebraska to stay sleeping because we’ve got the resources, and they know I can get players,”

    Ummmn.

....but like 24 hours ago weren't you saying he wasn't the guy?

Well Kade McIntyre is a Fremont kid who Beckton, Ruud, and Frost missed out on, so I guess it’s not just Omaha kids.

Let's call them misses after they've had a productive career elsewhere.

Otherwise you'd call them replaceable, right?

Vokolek when healthy.  Brewington would be a great HB.  I'll agree AA.  But where is any depth at all?  One TE.  That's it.  Can hardly run 12 personnel as the DC's know we don't really have 2 TE's.  But again, just my opinion.

A lot of the Omaha stuff comes from the Omaha HS coaches.  I guess they could just be drama filled.

    Yes they could be.

Fidone is an incomplete, due to his injuries, but I doubt he does anything meaningful at NU. Beckton has also missed on getting a number of other TE recruits out of Omaha, and hasn’t done much with AJ Rollins. Beckton is an ok coach, not great.

Beckton is a good coach and I'm fully aware you enjoy pointing out the Omaha drama.

We initially recruit in the top 25, but through guys not panning out, leaving, quitting football etc our adjusted classes are not near what they started out as.  Here is an example of the 2017 class and 2018 class.  Guys that by now should be in the 4th or 5th year with NU.  Your leaders, seniors, keeper of the keys etc.....And the re-ranking outs 2017 at 70 and 2018 at 69th......Thats the "talent" of what was left of those two classes.  Still looking to find more recent classes.

But to emphasize your points, the staff has developed no one.  Our biggest weapons this year?  AG, AJ (pre injurt) CT and Palmer....On defense?  No real idea tbh.  This was the first year we have had depth and an actual RB 1.  4 years with Held left us with nothing.  Same in the receiver room until MJ.  I liked Beckton, but he has developed nothing and recruited nothing.  Yes Fidone has been injured, but we did nothing to get that room ready. OL, DL, LB,.....On and on.  Nothing.  The new staff might actually have decent guys to work with. Sadly, they have been devoid of anything resembling coaching until some positions this year.

Vokolek plays well, as does Brewington.

Beckton did fantastic with Austin Allen.

Holding off on Fidone is the right thing to do.

I realize a message board allows emotion to get in the way of fact.....but damn.

other than the paycheck I don't envy the next coach. I don't know if there's 5 good players on this team. I just hope all you that thought frost was the goat up until 5 minutes before he was fired give the next guy some time.

I'll give the next guy a buyout.

It's the best part of the Nebraska job.

I agree with the above.  I don't see the guys on the top post leaving to come to NU.  Great point about OU and Texas leaving the Big 12, makes it easier for TCU, Baylor or OSU to win.   Maybe Chadwell is our guy...

In regards to the 2nd post, I forgot about Luke and Lane.  I think both would be great hires.  I think that Luke has got it made at Cincy.  Lane seems to have issues with salary because of Mississippi law if I am reading correctly.  He might be the "best" that we could lure away.

Chadwell recruiting against the B1G heavyweights on OL and DL?

    Nope.

I was worried about that too, but I don't think Coleman would've committed unless he was convinced that Mickey would be back. That said, I definitely think Brian Kelly will make him an offer after this season. Mickey, Malachi, Omarion Miller, and AJ Allen could all end up at LSU.

    Like sands through the hourglass......

No, I am ducking from your constant fastballs up and in.

Sorry to say this, but I am blunt and opinionated.  I think Mickey is the best option.  I've said that at least 5-10 times.  I've given my reasons, look them up and brush them off all you want, I don't give a dang.  I've also said many times that if he doesn't get the job, I will still support whoever the AD hires.

You need to work on you and YOUR own opinion of who should get hired.  And not on mine or anybody else.  Speak up and put it out there who you think/wish/believe should have 2-3 years to rebuild Nebraska from the ground up.  Because I don't recall who you said is realistically the next Head Coach for the rebuild job.  If you have, I must have missed it. Sorry.  But I'd rather know who your guy is, then having to keep defending an opinion of mine.

ColoradoHusk wants a white collar guy who doesn't have a big 'ol chaw in during press conferences or public appearances......or at least that's what I understand

Tom or anyone associated with the 1990s.   I love Tom and all he meant to the Univ  and I consider him an inspiration in life;  but it is time to move on.  Time for another coaching tree to develop, take root and bring us new successes.     We all like MJ who is a part of the 1990s success story,  but he isn't ready and it is time for another perspective.

The ego with this statement/thinking is pretty thick.

    Tucker $9.5M - haha!

Day $7.6M  - best team in conference and playoff contender

Franklin $7.5M -  been HC at Penn State since 2014!

Harbaugh $7.3M - been HC at MICHIGAN since 2015

Ferentz $7.0M - been HC at Iowa since 1999!
Fitzgerald $5.7M - been HC at Northwestern since 2006!

Chryst $5.2M - HC 2015-2022 and buyout was settled at $11 million

Fleck $5.0M -  HC at Minnesota since 2017 (now in his 6th year)

Brohm $4.8M - HC at Purdue since 2017 (see above)

Allen $4.7M - HC at Indiana since 2016

Bielema $4.2M - HC Wisc 7 years; HC Arkansas 5 yrs; 2nd year at Illinois

Frost $4.0M - haha! buyout $15 million buyout

Schiano $4.0M - HC at Rutgers for his 14th year there!

Locksley $2.5M - HC at Maryland in his 5th year

Pay big boy money to the next HC of Nebraska doesn't make any sense at all, when you consider that the Big Ten current coaches have been around and EARNED their paper! (checks!)

Michigan State appears to have over paid.  Nebraska apparently did too, but I give us credit with Frost.  Wisconsin?  I'm not so sure that they overpaid because they've had success and got a settlement for a buyout.

The winning % for Nebraska in the conference since 2015 has been pretty awful.  IMO we should not be fools and just give away $6-7-8 mil a year (which is the top tier of the conference) when there is no evidence this job calls for that kind of money.  If you win and show success, open up the vault.

Since it is often said the B1G West "sucks" we will have to pay above programs who "suck".

If a coach has to earn their paper, they will do it somewhere other than Nebraska.

.....although I'm certain the coaching community and their agents are more than familiar with Nebraska's lucrative buyout probabilities.

I’m not a Christian at all, but he keeps on saying that his players don’t deserve to be payed while he makes $11 million a year. Seems hypocrital to me. On top of that, he supports the previous president and his actions.
