  1. With our SOS so far? Nope. You expect that. Now, if we see this happen throughout conference play, yes. And if that's the case, this could be Beck's last year as OC. Enter Frost. Nebraska also had the #8 rushing offense in 2012, against the full slate of Big 10 defenses. The offensive line was a liability in 2011, especially its pass protection for Martinez, but it's kind of weird not to acknowledge that the offensive line has improved significantly, giving the Huskers a legitimate power running game the past two seasons. How can you root for three runners as different as Abdullah, Cross and Newby and not consider that they have the same offensive line in common? If our running game is as superb as you make it, then perhaps that should be our offensive identity with minimal effective passing say 12-15 attempts per game? You can go by stats all you want, but when competition mattered, we have made mental errors and costly mistakes. What does this even mean? Does someone have to explain how a running game benefits from a passing game, point out that Nebraska already runs more than it passes by a 2:1 ratio, and enjoys one of the highest passing efficiency ratings in the country to go along with that #14 rushing offense? Is that too statistical, or too multiple for you? We make costly mental errors when competition matters? No kidding. That includes rushing fumbles as well as interceptions, along with stupid penalties on both sides of the ball. Team focus and discpline is definitely a problem, probably the biggest problem we have. I still find it kinda sad that when our offense has gotten so much better and is actually worthy of recognition and excitement, some people want to carp about us passing the football more than 15 times a game. No

  4. I'm not a big fan of being "multiple" what is multiple? Have we ever really seen our offense adapt to a good defense? Uh... no, not really. Beck refers to his offense as "The Mutt" or what have you. That tells me his offense has no identity. I'll take a smash mouth pro style offense any day of the week over this stuff. Oregon has much, much better athletes on O than we do they recruit better offensively. I do miss having a bruising rushing attack. Option is great and all but pounding the rock at a D is admirable to me. I love a punishing ground game!
  5. This, this, and this. I have to agree. Beck says it's aggressive to throw the ball... SMH yeah, you air it out when we're down 14 points as if we're down by 28 then when the blowout really is on against our D he starts running the ball. Signs of an overpaid OC IMO.
  6. Nobody is more qualified than Ed Gennaro. I think he would bring a great staff to NU.
  7. We needed game winning td drives vs. Northwestern, Mich State, D-Rob injury against Michigan and a bad TD call in our favor to beat PSU. We got lucky, LUCKY last year. The B1G title game was no fluke neither was the loss to Ohio State and Georgia which was worse than the score indicates the UCLA game last year was also worse than the score indicated and now here we are 3-1, almost lost to Wyoming, beat a USM squad winless in their last 16 games, got blown out by UCLA, were down 17-14 TO AN FCS SCHOOL @ Home and gave up too many rushing yards to their RB. I want the team to win as much as anyone but the writing is on the wall here. We're A LOT worse off than we were this same time last year.
  8. Tom won't have any say in it because he is no longer the athletic director. All we have is "hope" when did we ever have to use that word under Tom Osborne other than "I hope we beat OU this year and win the Big 8! Or... I HOPE we win the NC this year!" Now we're just hoping to get 7-8 more wins. We've fallen too far. Yeah, we fell all the way to 5-7 and not making a bowl game under the last coach and *now* is the time we conveniently forget about that to make a statement on where the program is. *Now* is the time we say we've fallen too far when we get 9-10 wins a year. There needs to be a healthy understanding of where we've been to truly appreciate where we are now, and what the current coaching staff has done to the program. I think that we tend to treat those Callahan years as an aberration with no effect on our progress to where we are now. You're only kidding yourself when you do that. It doesn't say much for Pelini to win 9-10 wins a year against soft schedules and 08, 09, 10 all being done with mostly Callahan leftovers. Now with his own players, we've seen more memorable blowout losses than I can remember under Bill Callahan.

  10. I think you've misunderstood the "We" part by that I mean the UNIVERSITY.
  11. W vs. Illinois W @ Purdue W @ Minnesota L vs. Northwestern L @ Michigan Toss up vs. Michigan State L @ Penn State W vs. Iowa Win against MSU and we're 7-3 lose it's 6-4. We could easily lose to Iowa for gods sake. That would put us at 6-6. If you schedule 1 FCS school per year, then it counts toward bowl eligibility. If BO were to lose 4 games in a row (this happening is a big possibility,) do we fire him right then and there with the team sitting at 6-5? This is all based on the results we have seen thus far. I'm a little concerned whether or not Bo can fix the problems on defense. I want Bo and this team to succeed but I think barely winning against Wyoming, the yardage we gave up was a sign UCLA was about to crush us (and they did, 38 unanswered points says that much,) and SDSU running wild on our D. Beating USM doesn't say too much about our team either. We really haven't proven anything this year. I'm a realist, not a sunshine pumper. Either way, a winning or losing season would be a surprise to many of us.
  12. With the ball in the opposite arm facing the sidelines. You know, just in case the ball happens to pop out.
  13. I learned that the receivers didn't know what to do when Armstrong was putting the ball right into his receivers' hands, in stride. It resulted in dropped passes and a weird fumble by Kenny Bell. Armstrong was able to make clutch throws and put the ball in places only his receivers could get it. He has huge upside and vision in the passing game. I learned our QB's were able to put their receivers in open space. That the swing pass worked, screen passes worked. These two QBs showed how to throw a ball properly and they showed incredible poise in the pocket. Tommy was cool and calm. Something we haven't seen since 2008 & Joe Ganz. Although it wasn't against the best competition. I have reason to believe that Tommy Armstrong would be able to carry this offense if needed. That the future looks so bright for him.
  14. The refusal to blitz against UCLA when we were in man really boggles doesn't it? I couldn't understand what they were doing...it's a simple concept. Bo got out coached or got caught in a bad call? Anyone know how many times we were in man and did not blitz against UCLA? I can recall maybe one time we did blitz.
  15. As usual, we will use whatever fit the offense the opponent runs. So far, that has called for more than that standard four DBs. Sounds like SD St. might run more 21 personnel which would call for a 4-3 look. I just don't get it. I guess I am old school. In 1995 did we not run a 4-3 defense against Florida's spread fun and gun offense? Did we not attack that offense with blitzes? If it worked then, why couldn't it work today? At least Osborne knew he needed speed on D back in the 90's. Do we not have speedy defensive players as of today? If so, why could we not use that vs UCLA? I really question Bo on this one.
  16. I'm not convinced RK3 is a better passer either. I think a lot of people will be surprised by TA throwing ability. His tape in HS is no joke. Yeah this isn't HS but man can he put the ball in tight spots. I love how he can throw on the run, too. Something Martinez isn't good at. If Taylor does throw on the run, more than likely if he hits the receiver, the receiver always falls down.
  17. True but I think we'll see dramatic results with more LB's on the field. We can be a bit more creative in blitz packages and zone coverage. Our secondary now has enough problems breaking down and tackling people. Not sure more LB would help that. And everyone knows pelini doesn't play zone We may see zone coverage. I think he knows maybe what he is doing isn't working and needs to mix it up.

  19. Agreed. The whole man/zone issue last week was pretty crazy. Even I knew before Spielman spoke about lack of pressure in man coverage and letting Hundley pick us apart. It was a head scratcher. I don't like the read and react or bend but don't break defense. I think we need to ATTACK offenses rather than let them dictate the game. I would prefer a QB getting put on their a## by a LB going 200 mph even if it results in a 15 yard pass.
  20. Why is that? I'm pretty confident we will see a much better defensive performance in our 4-3 alignment. It's not the best competition to brag about if we shut their offense down. We're still young on defense however fans will likely denounce the win even if we hold them to under 100 yards of offense and win 63-0.
  21. If our base 4-3 defense does very well albeit against SDSU, do we consider a switch to a 3-4 defense or 3-3-5 or hell, even 3-5-3? We have athletic linebackers to run it, do we not? It just seems like when we are in our base 4-3 defense, Bo gets creative with blitzes and our defense performs great. Why not consider a switch? Get the best talent/advantage on the field. Thoughts?
  22. Let's just hope he doesn't walk around campus with the boot on the wrong foot
