  1. +1 Debate all you want, but this program under Pedy and Cally is mediocre, and will continue to be. Not that mediocre is bad per se - we could be Notre Dame - but let's be done with all this talk about progress, national championships, etc., as it simply makes it all that much more embarrassing.
  2. Is there anything wrong with buying tickets when you're unable to buy them through the university channels? Is there anything wrong with selling tickets to a game you can't make? Edited to remove personal attack
  3. Rally for Cally? Heck, I just spent $800 on a pair of USC tickets, so don't suggest I'm a bagger. I'm just telling you this is the way it is - good, bad, or indifferent.
  4. You should expect the following: - A few beat-downs every year, maybe even one or two at home - Wins at home against comparable talent - Losses on the road against comparable talent - Second tier-bowl games and flirting in and out of the top 25 each year I hope that's good enough for everyone, because that's what we are looking at for the Callahan tenure, however long or short it might be.
  5. I personally think if Nebraska bolted for the Big 10 they would regret it big time. NU has a huge fan and recruiting base in Texas & Oklahoma. I think most of that dries up if Nebraska goes.
  6. Trying to rig a conference where there are no cellar dwellers is like a dog chasing its tail. It can never happen. You could put USC, Texas, OU, Michigan, Nebraska, Florida, LSU, and Ohio State in a "super conference" and I guarantee you two of those teams would drift to the bottom of the pack, year in and year out.
  7. There may be more donors in Texas, but there are lots of mouths to feed from the pie, including the Big 12 teams, as well as Houston, SMU, TCU, UTEP, North Texas, and a host of highly supported 1-AA teams and even D2 teams. In Nebraska, NU-Lincoln is basically is the only mouth to feed. Don't knock it. As for recruits, many Texas high school players are perfectly fine going to Lincoln, because they know they will be coming back to Texas on a regular basis to kick some a**.
  8. I read the article "Big 12 in Trouble", and the writer started a theory that Nebraska could/should/might consider a move to the Big 10 Conference. I may be totally biased, but I think Nebraska abandoning the Big 12 would be a catastrophic mistake. Especially abandoning the Texas market. I live in Texas, and Nebraska enjoys a tremendous amount of support in this state. NU fans turn out in droves for the NU games in Texas or in Oklahoma. That would all but dry up if NU moved to the Big 10. Same goes for recruiting. Think of all of the outstanding Texas recruits that went to NU over the years. The recruiting in Texas would suffer greatly if the university had no game exposure in Texas. Thoughts anyone on this? Would NU really even consider leaving the Big 12, and as a result leaving the Texas market in the dust?
  9. The Texas game will be my wife's FIRST trip to Lincoln to see the Huskers at home. We will be flying into KC on Friday night, staying in Syracuse, NE, then driving into Lincoln the next a.m. Are there tailgate parties out there that you can just walk up to? Can anyone offer advice on this? I want my wife's trip up there to be a memorable one. Thank you!
  10. I guess that statement is debatable at best. I would say that if you actually watch the performance of the team on the field, they have made no progress in 21 games, and I think that the argument can be made that they have gotten worse in alot of areas. IMO, pretty much no 6-5 team deserves to go to a bowl game. No props.
  11. Sure, give him all the time in the world. You go Cally!
  12. If I had to bet on the outcome, I would like my odds betting against Cally.
  13. Yes, that's right. 2-14. To his credit, he won 5 road games in 2002 after inheriting Jon Gruden's Raiders. You go Billy! And to think hundreds of us are sitting around, posting this or that about improvement, success, patience, recruiting, blah blah blah. Hey, guess what, this guy sucks!
  14. "Success" is going to be exactly how Steve Peterson defines it. Bottom line. I'm no defender of Solich, but the man got fired after batting about .750 +\- over his head coach career. Facts is facts. Peterson didn't think that was too successful. So on we move to Callahan. I believe he's right at .500 +/- as we sit here right now, and will probably be below that mark after the CU game. While I'm willing to "give him another year" in my own mind, I believe that Callahan will never break the .500 mark as head coach at Nebraska, whether he's here 1, 2, 3, or more years. We are hopelessly out-coached most games. Facts is facts. Our talent (although it is generally minimized) will allow us to win a few home games per year, and perhaps one road game per year. We will have to rely on Mr. Peterson to determine if and when the sub .500 mark isn't successful. However...I would surmise that Mr. Peterson's definition of "success" has probably been modified a bit since he's the one that grabbed ahold of the steering wheel.
  15. What Cally said was "We want to be competitive immediately." What he meant was "It's going to take time. A long time." What Pedy said was "I refuse to let this program gravitate toward mediocrity." What he meant was "This program is going to crash right through the depths of mediocrity and won't stop until it hits the bottom of the Big 12 and Division 1-A." What Cally said was "We take what we want." What he meant was "We don't take anything. Hopefully our players and home field will allow us to take a few home games - at least against cupcakes." What Cally said was "I didn't do a 'throat slash'". What he meant was "I did do a throat slash - it's on TV." What Pedy said was "Rebuilding isn't acceptable. We want to be successful immediately." What he meant was "Since I'm the head honcho hiring this guy, if he goes 5-6 and 6-5, that's acceptable and successful in my book." What Pedy said was "We want to win the Big 12 championship." What he meant was "We will likely never even scare the Big 12 north with this clown I'm hiring."
  16. I've resorted to more happy thoughts - that day when Cally will get the boot and we will at least have the opportunity to restore Nebraska football. I'm conceding that we will make a bowl game this year and next year too, but Cally won't be coaching in next year's bowl. 14 games and counting... GO BIG RED
  17. Funny, I don't remember our offensive line EVER being incapable of run blocking...until Cally came on the scene. We've taken good run blockers and converted them to inept pass AND run blockers. Great going Pedy and Cally!
  18. Remember back 22 months or so ago...we'd just hired Cally, and he reassured us that "the beauty of the WCO is that you can take advantage of the talent that you have..." Hmmmm. Well, seems like instead of taking advantage of the talent we have on the team, we insist on having a "balanced attack", even if it means we get blown out a few games every year. All of that smack about "using the talent that you have" slowly got spinned away and replaced with "WE NEED MORE TALENT". I call total B.S. on that one. Also, I'll never forget ole Pedy saying "we're not interested in rebuilding...we want to win, and win now." What he really meant was "I want a complete dismantlement of this proud program. And maybe...just maybe, we can put it all back together. Some day."
  19. I've been told that the team gave basically a half-hearted effort at Lawrence. Question is, are they laying down for Cally? Will they lay down again these last two games? Anyone hear what's going on with the team?
  20. This is probably the dumbest post i have ever read, give him time for god sakes this is his second season, unreal hskrntexas, ever heard of patience. Oh man, Cally would love to meet a guy like you.
  21. Any one of you that says Cally's going to win more than 6 games next year is either DREAMING or DELUSIONAL. It ain't happen'n.
