I don’t disagree. I personally think there is a very low chance of Purdy sticking around. He will know that he has no shot to start if we are paying a guy 1-2 m to be here. He graduates and has no reason to stay as a back up. No incentive whatsoever. HH will be out back up next year.  Like you I hope he does stay.

Yep, agreed. The question is how is Purdy wired? Is he comfortable living the backup QB life aka the most popular man in Nebraska? He'll get a nice chunk of change for those efforts in a place he's familiar with. Or is it, pop in the portal and spin the wheel? If he wants a guaranteed starting spot he'll probably have to go G5 but on the other hand, I could see him maybe going to a school like Oregon State or Wazzu that has seen their QB room get raided with all the turmoil. I guess we'll see right?

Leavitt was under the impression from our staff that they weren't taking 2 qb's in the transfer portal.  Think he is a back up plan to what McCord decides.  Technically if we were to gain his commitment along with McCord's we would have 5 qb's on the roster for next season.  Im not counting Sims but McCord's, Leavitt, Purdy, Kaelin, and Haarberg.  I really think that Purdy isn't as bad as some husker fans make him out to be just really needs to have a healthy off season after his surgery to hopefully practice during the spring.  Haarberg should be moved to tight end bc he needs a proper qb coach to fix his throwing mechanics and their is a ton of work that needs to happen in order to get there.  Im not sold on Leavitt bc very small sample size with his college experience.  Maybe Nebraska coaches looked at his high school tapes and saw something they liked.  Im hoping the qb room next season is McCord, Purdy and Kaelin and that whoever is the starter next season has enough weapons to throw to.

I'd be more than happy with a QB room next year of McCord/Purdy/HH/Kaelin + non-scholly guys. I'm not sure if Purdy would be interested in sticking around knowing he's not a lock for the starting QB role but it would be great if he did. I think Purdy is a more than serviceable back-up QB given Nebraska's track record of QB play. I'm still holding out a small bit of hope that Flores transfers back from Okie State following next year's season if he isn't able to get meaningful playing time.

Not the portal, but crazy season none the less. Seems unlikely this would be true although I could see matching an NFL RB salary.

You gotta think Harrison Jr is definitely gone. Getting a giant bag as a RB though is pretty compelling. Less games, fewer carries, way weaker competition. It's definitely something to think about.

Fwiw I definitely agree with you about Sapp. That looks like a disaster hire from the outside (have they made it official?).

But it looks like Loadholt was interning under Bedenbaugh last year. I actually think that’s a really savvy hire given their resources - they weren’t likely to poach a great P5 coach so the next best thing is an up and comer who got some seasoning under one of the best OLine coaches out there.

We are still beating them in Lincoln next year though.

I hate to admit it but I do like the Loadholt hire for the reasons you described. Bedenbaugh is an elite, elite OL coach.

  5. Missed this in all the hub-bub but it looks like McCloud, the stud QB from James Madison is in the portal again.

3400 yds 32/9 + another 300ish rushing yards plus 8 more TDs. IIRC he's got one year left and I wonder if he follows his coach to IU. Would be a good get for sure.

I am a long time football coach in the state of Iowa, and I absolutely hate the Hawkeyes with a passion. With that said, Phil Parker is the best defensive coordinator in the big 10 and has been for years. What he has done over a long period of time is Fairly amazing . I believe his defense only allowed two rushing touchdowns all season this year.

Phil Parker is an absolute wizard and Iowa has been very fortunate that he's been happy to stick as the DC all these years. I keep waiting for Ferentz to hang it up in the hopes that Nebraska would make a strong play at LeVar Woods.

    What's wrong with that?

I think Alberts is grossly overpaid with his new deal. He got an absolute gift from Ted Carter on his way out the door. Trev is paid like a top ten 10 AD despite having ZIPPO in terms of notable accomplishments since he's taken over at Nebraska. I'll level with you though, I'm always going to hate his guts for what he did to UNO Wrestling and I'm way to close to that situation to be impartial unfortunately.

With that derail out of the way, I'm super pumped for Tony White to have secured a fresh new bag! GBR!

  8. The boys are out in Las Vegas this week for the Cliff Keen tourney which is shaping up to be pretty salty. Will be lots of good competition out there. 184 in particular is loaded with 4 of the top 5 guys in the country there. Nebraska is projected to defend the title from last year. GBR!

Almost went to Ohio St out of high school. If he were to choose them now that could trigger a certain domino effect that could benefit Nebraska.

IIRC, he was a really late Oregon flip but Ohio State might've also been in the mix. There is weirdly some smoke on him going to Michigan State which I kinda get as I don't think MSU has a literal scholarship QB on their roster presently. In retrospect, he should've gone to Oregon, redshirted and spent a year under Bo Nix's tutelage but hey, he wanted to play from day 1. The talent is undeniable but man, his body language was terrible at UCLA. And he played like crap!

Neither of those guys produced anything like they are now at their old schools, so the new environment helped all parties. We can hope for something like that, but it hasn't happened yet at Nebraska where all the pieces fit and raises everyone's play.

The Penix/UW thing was a perfect fit since DeBoer was the OC at Indiana when Penix was there. Penix showed flashes at times but as @teachercd mentioned, he was always hurt. IIRC, he had 3 or 4 seasons end early due to injury. I was honestly pretty surprised he came back to UW because he made it through a season with no injury. He's looked a little off these past few games so I wouldn't be surprised if he's knicked up again.
