  1. Anyone heard anything about Callahan being a candidate for the Redskins head job if Gibbs retires?
  2. LOL... I was afraid the other thread was so long, noone would read my response. I agree - balance is key on offense, but I believe in a strong run game.
  3. For the HUSKER that posted the top 25 rushing teams and pointed out how few were ranked in the AP top 25.... go back and do the same thing for the top 25 PASSING teams, and you'll get the SAME RESULT!!!! Bottom line: Defense wins championships! Nebraska was THE dominant team of the 90s and we're supposed to believe that "POOF", it doesn't work anymore? Give me a break! Bear Bryant always said there are 3 things that can happen when you throw the ball, and 2 of them are bad. I still believe that if you run the ball and control the clock you have a BETTER chance of winning. More often than not, the team that has the most rushing yards will win. That is not always the case, but the team that can run the ball definitely has the edge. There are side benefits to running the ball, too. Your defense will be more rested and better able to dominate the game, and your team as a whole will be more physical. Is the option the only way to have a strong running game? Of course not. I like to see SOME option, but as long as we run the ball successfully, I don't care how it is done!
  4. Let's face it. Nebraska was a 9-3 team before he took over. These kids are not being prepared like they should be. You can still be a smash-mouth football team without the option. Alabama still has a strong running game and tries to be a tough, physical team. "Finesse" football ain't Nebraska!
  5. Gimme a break. When people say they aren't surprised the players are supporting Callahan, that doesn't mean we think they are doing so without sincerity. YES, these players want Callahan to succeed. They spend every day with the guy and have fought with blood, sweat, and tears. There's going to be a bond there. No team that is about to lose their coach wants it to happen except in extreme circumstances like Arizona a few years ago. Players fight for their coach. That's expected. That doesn't mean the players are right. Callahan was a big fat mistake from day 1. You can debate whether the option was outdated, but we went to the other extreme, and that was stupid. No, a coach doesn't HAVE to have ties to Nebraska, but there are plenty of GOOD coaches out there who would have at least held more respect for Nebraska tradition than Callahan. Heck, look at Pederson. He's a Nebraska alum, and he's trashed tradition more than any outsider could have.
  6. TCU Head Coach Believes in the running game and uses the option. Aggressive/Attacking style of defense TCU is 9-1 this year. Hire him TOMORROW.
  7. So was Pederson being a bad fan for canning Solich? Give me a break! You can cheer for the team, but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging the obvious: CALLAHAN WAS A MISTAKE! A good fan won't put blinders on and let the program go down the toilet!
  8. Okay - confession. I'm 100% Alabama fan. Nebraska is my second favorite team. I grew up a Bama fan, but fell in love with Nebraska in the 90s. The Huskers became my #2 team because they played smash-mouth football. With Callahan, those days are gone. What did we have today? Less than 50 yards rushing? I say FIRE PEDERSON FIRST - MONDAY! Wait until the season is over and FIRE CALLAHAN! Who do I want for a head coach? 1. Gary Patterson (Kansas State '81) Head coach at TCU. Nebraska would go back to what won 5 national championships. 2. David Bailiff (Texas State '81) Head coach at Texas State. 3. Glen Mason (Ohio State '72) Head coach at Minnesota - just look at the Gophers offensive statistics - they're awesome. I wouldn't want Mason, though, unless he brought a good Defensive Coordinator with him! 4. Ken Whisenhunt (Georgia Tech '84) Offensive Coordinator at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Talk about smash-mouth. Pitt takes it to other teams every week, with a pro-flavor.
