  1. 1. Our offensive line is not very good. 2. Tommy Armstrong is a warrior. Heaven forbid he goes down with a serious injury. 3. Regardless of offensive line play, Terrell Newby is not the answer at running back. 4. We have one of the worst pass defenses in college football. 5. At the rate things are going Reilly will be under tremendous pressure from Huskernation to give Mark Banker a roadmap back to the State of Oregon or any locale outside a 500-mile radius of Memorial Stadium. 6. We have to find more ways to use Andy Janovich in the offense. 7. It's never a good idea to think we have a game in hand or that we are out of a game.
  2. I'll start by saying I am as frustrated as anyone that we haven't won a conference title since 1999. It's been way too long, obviously, and those who have been on this board much longer than I have no doubt have debated the many reasons. I currently view the glass as half full vs. half empty. We could very easily be 2-1 at this point had Armstrong simply ran a few more seconds off the clock when we had the ball late against BYU. However it is what it is at 1-2. I am proud of the kids and they way they battle. I like the way Reilly smiles and apparently interacts positively with the refs. Does anyone on here think Pelini had it figured out with the way he pouted on the sidelines? Although I don't know for sure, I'm guessing Reilly is smart enough to realize it makes no sense to fight with the officials, who have the whistle and the last word. Lastly we are only 3 games into the current season. No one promised it was going to be easy. I am not looking for a championship at this point. I am looking for this team to continue to fight, learn more about its identity, and make improvements along the way. Go Big Red! .
  3. Someone needs an anger management program and tips on how to support one's team and stay classy at the same time
  4. "He may have been in the wrong position the whole time." Exactly what was going through my mind last night! He had our guys ready to play and fight. I wish him nothing but the best!
  5. You're over-thinking this. ...or under thinking it...
  6. I believe the hire was made quickly in order for Riley to begin recruiting as early as possible. Also, we know that Eichorst doesn't speak in public a lot. This gives him time to think and plan. I'm guessing Riley has been on his radar now for quite sometime.
  7. Rumor has it the pilot is going to use the lights at Memorial Stadium on approach and not the runway lights at KLNK.
  8. Good afternoon, all. Longtime looker and first time poster. First off I've been following Nebraska football now for more than a few years. I used to take the bus to downtown Lincoln to watch games as a kid and sit in the 50-cent knothole section. Thus my username To be honest, I've been astonished at the number of board members who thought we were going to hire Jim Tressel. With his history of NCAA violations? Really? Seriously? Say what you will about Eichorst, he was never bringing in Tressel. I was expecting us to hire someone with Big Ten ties. Maybe Pat Fitzgerald as a long shot. Well that obviously did not happen today. So where does that leave us? I'll admit I knew very little about Mike Riley before today. But I'm reading some things I like. He sounds like he can recruit in California and Texas. Not a bad start. It also sounds like he can develop quarterbacks. Let's face it, quarterback has not been our strongest position over the last 6 years, although Armstrong seems to be getting better. It also sounds like Riley's teams are disciplined. Sounds good to me! Riley also sounds like a great guy. A class guy. No more TV cameras focused on our head coach waiting for the next "blow up." Don't discount the importance of this. All in all a good mixture of ingredients! I have no doubt that Eichorst was looking for a coach who has a positive outlook and positive energy. He's found his guy in Riley. As fans we have two choices: rally behind the selection and give Riley a chance, or be negative about it and already be thinking and posting about "the next guy." I know what path I'm taking. What will yours be? GBR
