  1. I can understand how this would affect a team for sure, so I'm not dismissing the fact that it could have a poor effect on a team, but we had something similar happen in 2013 when Taylor Martinez went out, and we still scrambled our way to 9 wins with a freshman and a walk-on quarterback, against better competition. Depth is definitely a place of distinction between our teams, but I would disagree with the assertion that our starting 22 and yours are on equal footing. I could go back and look at the 247 composite rankings for all 22 starters for each team, but that's too much work and I'm about 85% confident there would be a legitimate gap in perceived quality between the two teams. I could care less about a star comparison. I'm looking at starters on the depth chart right now. On offense I wouldn't take a single one of your receivers over ours. I certainly wouldn't take Armstrong over Taysom. I'd keep most of our line, though I like the Lewis kid who beat the crap out of the flyboy. On defense I'd take Collins and Valentine and your DBs and Gerry at safety. I wouldn't trade any of our linebackers for yours though. But I'd take most of your second string over ours. But of course that's how I perceive things.
  2. How can it possibly be a dead horse if the ramifications of the incident are currently playing out? Because you find it uncomfortable doesn't mean it's a dead conversation. It's current and topical. If you don't want to talk about it, don't. But don't tell us we can't.I did say carry on. Anyway, it's just comical that you're so worked up over this. As much as I would love for Gerry, Collins, Armstrong, Valentine, etc. to be suspended, I really don't care and haven't put an ounce of the energy you have into it. I guess I just don't get it. I don't care how other teams choose to punish their players. As you were. knapp's reason for giving the minuscule amount of sh#ts he gives has nothing to do with his worry about those players facing Nebraska, which is what you're implying when you mention Gerry, Collins, Armstrong, and Valentine. They did nothing wrong. We're not the team who refuses to self-discipline and lets our players get away with pretty much whatever the they want. The reason this is interesting to talk about is because the BYU coaches and clearly lots of the fans have no self-awareness about this. It's really not that interesting to talk about. BYU has already announced one suspension for the game in Sione Takitaki. We'll find out if there are others on Saturday. Frankly, I like the gamesmanship out of Bronco. I also like that by not discussing it publicly he's not allowing it to be a distraction. You don't know anything about BYU if you think they let their players get away with anything they want and don't discipline them. Go read The System or search Sports Illustrated for Spencer Hadley. BYU has crushed the souls of many of their fans by suspending or dismissing high profile athletes for big games.
  3. TA has struggled in an offense tailored to his strengths the last two years, and has beat a handful of teams better or as good as BYU will be. That won't mean anything either way Saturday, more than likely. I see this game being back and forth for 2.5 quarters, with Nebraska's depth and talent being too much to handle throughout the entire ball game, winning by 14-17. I too think it won't come close to reaching the O/U. That's easy money IMO. BYU historically has played low scoring openers under Bronco.
  4. Must have been that un-holy buttstuff. "We struggled (getting penetration) last year," Rowley said. "We have to be more physical and then we can open holes." Sorry, couldn't help it. Seriously though: He said that after months of not being able to really hit the QB, he's anxious to get to the Nebraska game and go all out. "That's the best feeling in the first game when you get to hit the quarterback," Kaufusi said. "You're sick and tired of patting them on the back and running by." Daily Herald Looks like they plan on putting a lot of pressure of TA. Beware of the zone read though, or they will get burned. BYU was dinged up quite a bit last year. Plus they moved Bronson Kaufusi to OLB last year. It was a disastrous move. Combined with the injuries to the defense, young guys forced into playing time, and a first time DC the defense really suffered. Bronco took back the defense and the DC was demoted to DB coach. Bronson has been moved back to DE. He's a talent but he's best suited to play DE in 4-3 IMO. So he's still a bit of a square being forced into round hole. The secondary was pretty bad last year, but they get too much of the blame for the defense. The real issue was a lack of pass rush and the secondary paid the price. BYU's front 7 is legit. Bronco has always had a stop the run first mentality. That hasn't changed, but there has been an emphasis of getting to the QB especially with those guys whose whose hands are in the dirt. I think the secondary will be a bit better than last year. There were a few guys who didn't buy in and it exposed the team and scheme which is dependent on assignments. Still, the defense is relatively young. I'm anxious to see if the secondary is improved and if we can dominate an inexperienced line up front. As for the zone read, I don't think BYU is too concerned about it. Bronco defends it and the triple option as well as anyone in the country. Besides they see a better read option QB than Tommy Armstrong everyday. BYU shouldn't be concerned about the zone read, It's probably no big deal anyway. Not saying Taysom Hill is a bad QB, but I would rather have a QB who spent more time on the field than riding the pine with injuries. Maybe this will be the year he makes it through a whole season. He played every game the season before last. I'll take a Heisman hopeful with two freak injuries over Tommy all day. I'm really curious what Riley does with him against BYU. In the past, he's gone max protect vs BYU to beat BYU through the air. It worked the last time they played, though a quick score followed by an interception returned for a TD made it look more lopsided. But Tommy Armstrong is no Cody Vaz or Sean Mannion. I suspect he'll call plays to his strength, get him out of the pocket perhaps on some designed rollouts with a run/pass option. I wonder if we'll see Riley's beloved jet sweep. Not sure who will run that though with DPE out. I'm also wondering how an inexperienced line will protect TA. Moving the pocket will help as I'm sure Bronco will be bringing pressure from all over. I'm looking forward to seeing if TA can pass on BYU because I think BYU will sellout to stop the run first. Good point here. I didn't realize it but now I do. If Riley can beat BYU with Oregon St. players, imagine what he can do now. As this game draws closer, I like our chances of winning more and more. Riley only beat BYU once out of three games and that team that won had talent, enough to finish the season ranked top 20. They were ranked #10 and undefeated coming into that game in Provo. So what your saying is that Riley will be 2-2 vs. BYU after this game. Now I understand.I don't think so. I think Riley is a good coach. But I think TA will struggle with his offense even if it is tailored to his strengths. There will be growing pains with new schemes on both sides of the ball. I don't know about that. TA was thrown into the fire when T Magic got injured and he has been chugging along ever since. TA knows about adversity, and he has been making it work. His last game vs. USC was actually pretty good. I think he will be even better this year. I really think the new schemes and coaching staff will be a benefit instead of a hurdle. We shall see come game time how this plays out. I agree that in time the new schemes and staff will be a benefit. But there will be growing pains initially. I think most QBs make their greatest leaps between their sophomore and junior seasons. So it is natural to see some progression out of TA that just comes from maturation, but he won't have that familiarity of system for a few games at least.

  6. The difference in talent really only exists at the 2nd and 3rd string. BYU's starters are about as talented as Nebraska, probably more so on offense (with the exception at running back and tight end) I'd argue. But we lack depth without question. And that overall talent is why BYU lost 5 games last year? Must've been a killer schedule you guys played. Losing Taysom was completely deflating. There is no replacing him. He's the heart and soul of the team and means as much to the defense as he does the offense. He is one of those players that just has it. That it factor that makes everyone believe you can do anything and elevates your game because he will do everything to win. When he went down last year with that broken leg I can't even explain what that stadium was like. Combine that with losing our star running back for the season, a couple starting corners and numerous other players and it was a cluster. That team went into a tailspin and only recovered because of the soft November schedule. This season is riding on Taysom. Every BYU fan will be holding his breath when he drops back and wincing whenever he gets hit. That's a reasonable answer. I am not a BYU follower and did not know they were that dinged up. Hope they bring it on Saturday. I am looking forward to a good game. BYU had a ridiculous number of injuries last year(many were soft tissue injuries like ankles, knees, shoulders). So much so that BYU put their S&C coach out to pasture and completely overhauled their training program. Everyone is drinking the Kool-Aid and raving about the results. But this fall camp was great for BYU. The only two significant injuries was a non contact ACL tear (starting TE running a route and just went down) and a 3rd string OLB who broke his neck (two rods inserted to stabilize his spine - he's already back walking around the student athletic center) in a freak accident. But we'll see. I'm anxious to see the results on the field, especially in relation to BYU's go fast, go hard no huddle offense.

  9. No. You did not read it correctly.

  12. Haha. Arrested? LOL. You all are a soft bunch.Soft? How about an ear hole sucker punch to a guy facing the other way...that's what I consider soft, or cowardly, or being a pu$$. But hey maybe I'm just old fashion...or an actual man.I don't disagree which is why I'm fine with the suspension. The expulsion talk is just dumb though. And in Nacua's defense I'm not sure he has all of his faculties after getting rocked. He got dropped! Are they just talking one game for him? Not enough if so.I have been mostly just a lurker on this board. I am pretty excited about the game this weekend. I think it will be a hard fought game where both teams have some serious questions in different areas. To me this game is a complete toss up. We could easily get run out of cornfields or squeak out a winner. I know there have been some major egos that have posted as BYU fans. We get real defensive quick. The only thing I want to clear up is the suspensions. Kai Nacua should be suspended for the game. He deserves it and I don't think we will see him Saturday. For those claiming it should be more and are upset about it? Really? Every team has had unfortunate incidents like this. Remember Kellen Huston? He got a 1 game suspension as well and he dropped a poor little fat Mizzou boy who was not involved in any fight. 1 game. So stop complaining about a suspension of a kid you will never even recall who he is after Saturday What I am trying to say is for the most part you guys have been legitimately classy. We haven't represented all that well and for that I appologize. I think the trash talk started innocent on both sides and turned sour as gameday approaches. Best of luck to the huskers after Sat. I hope you go 11-1. Just in case you guys forgot who Kellen Huston was Was waiting for this, and I'm glad it was finally posted. It's really been tough lately figuring out if you're an actual Husker fan or not. The Oregon part has been easy.....Nebraska not so much. Why? Because I try to take the clear bias out of things? Why would I donate to the board if I wasn't a Husker fan? I said what I said because there have been comments leading our BYU fans to believe that this sort of thing has never happened at Nebraska. Which is wrong, that's all I was getting across. It's becoming more and more clear on this board that if we don't spell things out so 100 percent, they get taken completely wrong. Leading to rear end injury. No worries. Any college football fan worth his salt would remember that incident. I could have brought it up but it's entertaining watching dudes like knapp strain over beam in their own eye.
  13. Knapplc the horse is dead. You've beaten the ever living hell out of it. BTW, the Michael Davis incident is nothing. If you had any context of what happened you'd understand that instead of getting moist over a lousy BYU beat writer finally finding out about this a month after the fact and tweeting it as something salacious. But carry on. I think I saw the horse flinch.
  14. You crack me up dude. You have about 50 posts now about BYU and how everyone on their team should be suspended. Give it up dude. I hope your football team isn't as concerned about who will play or won't Saturday as you are. LOL. It seriously makes me laugh that this eats at you so much that you have basically copied and pasted the same stupid arguments over and over. Give it up. Like I said before, BYU will suspend those whom they think deserve it for a length of time they feel is appropriate. They've suspended critical players going into far more important games than this season opener in Lincoln.
  15. Piss off! Now that's GOT to be an Honor Code violation! No pissing on would be.
  16. BYU Honor code goes out the window when you are trying to win a game. What a great message to send to the team. Hey, we are only going to suspend you for a game where we wont need you.... But we need to win, so what you did is perfectly ok. Good lord. Keep it classy BYU..... Meanwhile, the huskers are suspending a few players for this game instead of waiting for a more winnable game later. This is getting tiresome. You know how many players BYU has suspended on the eve of games far bigger than this one? I'm beginning to think that Nebraska is really scared of this mid major school Saturday.
  17. Yes, they are quite sexy, aren't they? I wish we could play our red's against your blue's. That would be nice.

  19. Finally someone acknowledged this. I got tired of putting more bait on my hook. Correct. We have no shot unless 10 BYU guys are suspended and Hill isn't 100%. No. I was referring to the first part. BYU needs everyone to play at full strength.
  20. Finally someone acknowledged this. I got tired of putting more bait on my hook.
  21. LOL. I wish. We might have a few more National Championships if that were the case.
  22. Sorry dude. He was dismissed from the team, not school. He actually withdrew from school voluntarily. He was never expelled. This also was a second incident which resulted in a child. So it was a bit more complicated than playing just the tip. Isn't this comparable to being given the chance to resign voluntarily, prior to being fired? More or less. The best way to describe it is if you're an MMA fan you know you can never let any fight go to the judges. The Honor Code Office is much the same. You never want your fate decided by them because you never know what they will decide. Withdrawing allows players to get out of Dodge before they can dismiss you, then return after a period of good standing. It's what BYU running back Jamaal Williams is doing. Fortunately, BYU has adopted a no comment policy when it comes to HC violations. The Brandon Davies thing brought it all about because they felt he was needlessly shamed publicly. Really though, I think many fans wish the HC would go away, myself included.

  24. Through a partnership with the Big 12, they review on field matters. For example when Tejan Koroma was ejected last year, the Big 12 reviewed the incident and rescinded it.
