  1. Bronco has maintained all along that players would be disciplined which may or may not include suspension for their involvement. Everyone assumes automatic suspensions. Why? Because that's the standard that's been established by most universities across the nation? I mean, if you guys wanna go all SEC, then whatevs. We're independent.
  2. Haha. Arrested? LOL. You all are a soft bunch.Soft? How about an ear hole sucker punch to a guy facing the other way...that's what I consider soft, or cowardly, or being a pu$$. But hey maybe I'm just old fashion...or an actual man. I don't disagree which is why I'm fine with the suspension. The expulsion talk is just dumb though. And in Nacua's defense I'm not sure he has all of his faculties after getting rocked. He got dropped!
  3. Game. Set. Match. Knapp for the win Never go Sharpie until the game is over son.
  4. Sorry dude. He was dismissed from the team, not school. He actually withdrew from school voluntarily. He was never expelled. This also was a second incident which resulted in a child. So it was a bit more complicated than playing just the tip.
  5. I've heard that sentiment from BYU Fan over the past month. Engage in an ugly brawl, throw haymakers on national TV, do some calisthenics & call it good. Except, if that's your ceiling punishment, where's your basement? Lose three fumbles in a game, you have to write on the chalkboard 10 times? False start three times, you have to look at the stadium steps & think about what running them would be like? Violate team rules, you get a stern glance from an Athletic Trainer? BYU Fan thinking this can be swept under the rug by running some laps is delusional. But, to listen to them talk about this fight, they think their guys were all the victims, that none of them actually participated in the brawl. We're Mormons who believe in the atonement of Christ, saved by his grace, mercy satisfying the demands of justice. I'm sorry that bothers you so much Inspector Javert.
  6. Bronco has maintained all along that players would be disciplined which may or may not include suspension for their involvement. Everyone assumes automatic suspensions. Why? Because it was an ugly brawl that tarnished the brand of a school that prides itself on doing things the right way. The Miami Hurricanes suspended 13 players in the aftermath of their 2006 brawl with FIU, a fight which was nearly identical to the one BYU engaged in. BYU prides itself on its morals, being better than the next guy, and upholding their stringent Honor Code. But all of that means nothing if actual punishments aren't involved. Suspending one player, Nacau, for that fight would be a joke. It would say to college football that BYU's self-policing policies are less stringent than a school that pridefully calls itself "Thug U." Exactly. You can get kicked out of school for sleeping with a co-ed. But if you get in a brawl on national TV, no big deal. Just do some extra running over the summer. You generally don't get kicked out of school for sleeping with a co-ed.

Give me the names (I'll take the numbers since I don't expect you to be familiar) of the players who should be suspended and why. Comparing this fight to the Miami fight is silly. Aside from being bench clearing and Memphis swinging helmets and kicking BYU players they were nothing alike. There were no crutches being swung. And why are you arguing some holier than thou position? Just because BYU has an honor code? Trust me, it doesn't make anybody high and mighty.

  10. There will not be 10 players suspended. That's embarrassing. Also the fact Memphis already named the players months ago and BYU is trying to act all james bond and wait till the last minute. Riley did not name the suspended players because BYU hasn't either so that evens the playing field a bit. We will know soon in the coming days though which Cougars will not play. Memphis has not named any players. They just said a number of players will be suspended. I imagine some of those punishments are cumulative as this was Memphis'second bench clearing incident if the season. Also, the idea that Riley hasn't revealed names because Bronco hasn't is cute. You guys are a funny bunch. The fact of the matter, nobody would know about any Nebraska suspensions if Riley hadn't misspoke in front of a reporter from Oregon. Riley isn't above the gamesmanship. It's standard operating procedure for coaches. The only time this stuff generally comes out early is when it is a matter of public record, like an arrest. But in-house issues are kept there for as long as possible.
  11. LOL. I love all this indignation. This was an all out brawl. I'm fine with Nacua being suspended for the game. But to kick him off the team, that's silly. I also love folks arguing that a certain number of players minimum should be suspended. The popular number seems to be ten. I'd love for anyone to name 5. Nacua is the only one who warrants any sort of suspension (and the only player who will be suspended for the brawl). But if losing to a dishonorable team makes you feel better, keep pounding that drum.
  12. BYU Center Tejan Koroma threw the first punch in that fight. It was a head-butt, on a helmetless player, after the game was over. That Memphis player retaliated by punching Koroma, and the fight ensued. Kai Nacau threw an elbow to the back of a Memphis' player's head, and should have been kicked off the team. If they only suspend him for a game, that's amazing. Here's the fight: The 2006 Miami/FIU game featured a similar brawl. The teams suspended a combined 31 players for the next game - 18 from FIU and 13 from Miami. Months ago, Memphis announced they will suspend 12 players as a result of this fight: If BYU only suspends four players from that fracas, three for one game and one for half a game, that's going to look pretty shady. That wasn't a headbutt. Immediately following the end of the game that Memphis player got into the face of Christian Stewart, BYU's QB. Tejan is shoving him away from his QB. Headbutt on a helmetless player. LOL. That player responded in kind with a punch. Several other players jumped Tejan immediately afterward. One Memphis player even took his helmet and started hitting Tejan with it from behind. Tejan fell to the ground with about 5 Memphis players on top of him. While on the ground another Memphis player started stomping on him like your guy Suh. But the one image replayed over and over was Nacua and his sucker punch with little mention of the punch that dropped him and split his cheek before he started swinging on anyone wearing blue. Mind you, this wasn't the first time Memphis cleared the benches last season. They were looking for a fight afterward and got one. I'll say this, from what I know, Nebraska will have more players suspended than BYU on Saturday. And of those BYU will suspend only Nacua will be suspended as a result of the fight.
  13. There will not be 10 players suspended.
  14. Maliek Collins suspended? That's the rumor over on a BYU board.
  15. Uh, what? On field issue that lead to suspension? How many of those occur, if ever? Only when guys get tossed from games, but then it isn't up to the coach but the conference. I'm not referring to players doing something that brings an ejection and automatic suspension. That didn't happen in the Memphis St game because it was after the game ended. HuskerExPat made the point that on field actions are handled differently than off field incidents (unless I misunderstood his point). I'm just asking him, or you, when the last time there was something a player did on the field, where the suspension was left up to the school, i.e. a brutal play not seen by the officials but seen by the staff, where the suspension was announced publically days prior to the next game. I just don't recall any such incidents to base the statement he made on, and especially during the Bronco era. He's always been closed mouth about such things. I just don't see the Memphis St brawl any differently handled than any other suspensions during his time as head coach. I understand the question, it's just a pointless one. Bronco said afterward that this was the first time he had ever been a part of anything like this. So there is no precedent if that is what you're looking for. So to that end, Bronco has been consistent with the way he punishes players for on field issues. And are you asking coaches to suspend guys for brutal hits that officials deem legal? That is silly. BYU has an agreement with the Big 12 to review all on field issues. Just because they're independent doesn't mean they play by their own rules. This already came up pages ago and I addressed it with links and specific examples. It's lost somewhere in all the complaining about Bo and Mike if you care to look for it.

  17. I thought BYU is suspending 10 players for the first game, and then a different 10 for the second game. I think it's 10 total. So maybe 5 and 5. But what do I know? I thought I read a tweet about it earlier this week. I was going to post it in the BYU thread, but forgot. So, I could be wrong, too. That tweet came out of this article. However it is false. Bronco said that there were "10-ish BYU" players who would face discipline for the Miami Beach Bowl brawl. Never did he say that they would result in suspensions. I actually only expect a handful of suspensions. He has intimated that some players have already been disciplined during spring and summer.
  18. Unless he's suspended for the Miami Beach Brawl, then no. I'm excited for that matchup. Tejan Koroma is legit. He was a Freshman All American last year and Rimington Award watch list this year. This will be a great battle. I should add about this Takitaki suspension. BYU has been aware of it for weeks and been preparing for it. Also concerning the bowl game suspensions, it was erroneously reported by a Nebraska outlet yesterday that BYU would be suspending 10 players for the Nebraska game. That isn't true. Bronco said months ago that about 10 players have been disciplined. That discipline is unknown as of yet and certainly doesn't mean game suspensions. I know some of this discipline occurred during spring ball and throughout the summer. I'd be surprised if there are more than 3 players who miss the Nebraska game as a result. And based on camp so far, BYU's center Koroma will not be one of them because he's getting most of the reps and the guys behind him have been atrocious. If he were going to miss Nebraska I'd expect the backups to be getting much more work than they are.
  19. I appreciate your insight. I understand that there is bound to be animosity between with in state rivals, but I can sort through that. Thanks for your insight AggieAndee. Thank you. I'll try to be as helpful as I can. The animosity between Utah State and BYU has reached extreme levels now that the Aggies beat them on a regular basis on the field and send far more players to the NFL than the Kewgers. BYU fans are very upset about the parity and do stuff like write "little brother" in place of "USU" on the score boards when we play. BYU fans will say that Utah State has only beat them 5 times in several decades but Utah State's program is on the rise beating BYU twice in the last few years and producing alot more NFL talent. If you want to see a great game when USU beat down BYU at their home last year, forward this video to the 2 minute mark and you will see why it shouldn't be a tough game for Nebraska... LOL. I love how that highlight starts off with it took 36 years. Congrats on your first win in Provo in almost 4 decades. Parity indeed. Many BYU fans don't even consider this a rivalry game. But Aggies have the date circled each year. It's akin to Central Michigan calling Michigan their rival. AA is nothing but a troll. He's perfectly representative of all Aggies. They're all bitter fans because they get zero media coverage in the state and their teams are filled with guys who either couldn't qualify for BYU or get offered by BYU or Utah. They're not even little brother in the state, more like little cousin. You can tell simply by the way he spells Cougars. Anyway, don't mind him or do. But you've been warned. As for the Takitaki news, that's a big loss for BYU. He's a 2nd string OLB vying for a starting job. The only reason he doesn't start is because he's not a great LB yet, but he's a great pass rusher and would be on the field in almost every passing situation. In a defense that couldn't get pressure last year, he was one of the only guys who seemed to be able to get into the backfield consistently as a true freshman.
  20. Yesterday was a hot and humid day (monsoon storm all afternoon) in Provo. But what caused a bulk of it was the conditioning. Bronco stopped practice each time a fight broke out and made the entire team do conditioning drills. At one point they were doing up downs for almost 20 minutes. And another time after some sprints a few players pulled up before the goal line so he made the team do them all over again. No surprise, all 4 players were offensive linemen, 2 of which were true freshmen, another kid fresh off a mission and the 4th a kid who has missed time due to injuries. All four players recovered quickly, only two needed IV fluids. The scariest incident was an OLB who fractured his neck yesterday. He was carted off. X-rays and an MRI revealed a fracture and slipped disc. He had emergency surgery and had two rods inserted into his neck last night. When doctors opened him up they said the bone was against his spinal cord. He's very fortunate. I'm hoping he makes full and speedy recovery.
  21. Not sure. Criddle would know though. He's a former DB for BYU who hosts that show and he's very close to the program so no doubt he has sources so I'd accept those tweets on their face. Like I said earlier, Jamaal was not close to 100%. He would have played, but his impact would have been minimal. Best of luck to him. I hope he comes back. I probably shouldn't have assumed it was an HC violation (though it appears there was some sort of misconduct). I only did because withdrawing from school is typical procedure when serious violations occur. Any scoop on Algie Brown? I've read from a couple Cougar boards that he's like Jamaal, but a bit slower. People seem pretty confident in Brown, though. Brown was a pretty good recruit out of Skyline HS. They're an option team and he played fullback. He's not very shifty, but he has decent speed and is a load to bring down. He's the kind of guy who is always falling forward and picking up yards after contact. But he doesn't have that burst and will get run down if he gets past the second level. He is a good between the tackles runner who just gets downfield. Last season in a backup role he averaged 4.8 YPC. He'll get the bulk of carries. Adam Hine, BYU's great kick returner, will back him up. And BYU has a practice squad legend named Nate Carter who I suspect will get Jamaal's scholarship. He's a small, white kid with some wheels - think Danny Woodhead. Behind him BYU has a few other kids coming in, true freshman Riley Burt and also return missionary Francis Bernard and also Toloai Ho-Ching a one time inside linebacker who held an offer from Wisconsin and several other P5 schools who converted to RB in the spring. A healthy Jamaal would make this running back group special. As it stands it is adequate. Could use some more depth with the pace that BYU plays though. But make no mistake, the best running back on the team is Taysom, even when Jamaal was 100%.
