  1. My impression is he was saying the recruits knew we were going to hire a new dc quickly, not fire Banker. I'm sure Langs knew that, everybody did.
  2. Happens all the time in baseball. Kids will take a chance to make a little money with an outside shot (for most) to make the league over going to college for free. Not universally true, but definitely a common occurrence.
  3. I think he knows where he's going. I don't think he would've de-committed without knowing where he was going to end up. Just the vibe I got, and I do think it's N. Hope I'm right!
  4. I would shoot myself if somebody like Woodson was hired. Some people just dont understand that coaches coach, players play. Just b/c you were a great player doesnt mean you will be a great coach. I mean, the guy is a f'ing football analyst on tv right now. Hes NOT a coach! Pretty sure Mike Riley understands that.
  5. This was bound to happen eventually, just don't know if it can work without the financial support of the NFL. I'm pretty sure the owners like having a farm system they pay nothing for.
  6. Yeah this article was mostly crap to me. Why did he bring him in the first place? Riley thought Banker's scheme and recruiting abilities would improve with Nebraska's resources. They didn't. He let him go. Riley should be lauded for this move. I think this shows he's willing to adapt to fix weaknesses, which is a good thing. I haven't always been super supportive of everything Riley has done, but props to him for how he's handled the staff the last few years. He's weeding out the Oregon State guys who can't hang (especially recruit). Recruiting ability seems to be key to Riley regarding his coaches. Look at his recent firings. Banker, Hughes, Reed. Poor recruiters (along with poor results on the field). Cav and Langs haven't had great results on the field, but they're still here because they can recruit. I thought Cav did a great job to even be in the convo with Sarell and last years O-line class was very good, and Langs has pulled in POB, Gebbia, and Lee. I think they get some extra time to prove they can produce results on the field because they bring in talented players. If in a year or two our o-line and qb play doesn't improve (play calling plays into this for Langs as well), they will probably be on the chopping block too. Props to Riley, he's doing something our past coaches refused to do. I love it.
  7. You think it's very likely they promote Bray, or are you talking about Thompson? Not saying I'm against it, we need to keep him on the staff and if firing Banker and promting him is what it takes then so be it. Just wondering if they're going for a bigger name.
  8. It matters how we look to other top recruits. That article brought some things to light that really make you feel for the kid though. Always said I wanted him N, hope he still gets here.
  9. R.T. That's how you look STUPID to everyone involved. Fans. Prospects. Media. National recruiting services. I'm not sure it makes us look as stupid as it does desperate. Top tier programs wouldn't entertain you after flipping your commit on a national stage like that unless you are a game changing prospect. Although talented, Calvin is not that imo. At the same time I can see the notion that we're not a top tier program and we can't turn away talented players. I don't necessarily agree with that notion, as I think there are already guys comparable to Calvin that we have a shot at. Hawkins is the first one to come to mind. I actually do trust the coaches to make the right decision on this one. I think if they do visit him again they will be confident they can get him back, they know what it would look like if they visited again and he sticks with OSU.
  10. Yeah I think people may be sleeping on Oregon here. Sent a tweet to DAT asking him to message or dm him ASAP. Not sure how much to read into that.
  11. Yeah I mean, he's a kid who made a decision, right or wrong. It happens, I can be empathetic to that. I just worry that our staff needs to set a little bit of precedent. This is the second year in a row we've been burned like this. Either jump on board or don't, we can't keep letting kids do this stuff. Calvin is a good player and I would love to have him, but he's not Joseph Lewis, Tyjon Lindsey, or Darnay Holmes. He's replaceable. I say if you want to commit that's great, but if you don't then fine, let's move on and go after one of the many other guys around the country with a similar skill-set. We spend so much time on guys like this and then they leave us with our **** in our hand. Totally fine with spending time like that on 5* guys, they are game changers, but to commit so much time and energy to a guy like Calvin to have him leave in the end is starting to hurt us. Again, not saying I don't like Calvin and wouldn't love to have him N, but we can find others guys to fill his spot if he is flaky about his commitment.
  12. Yeah I'm very skeptical of this one. If he's even relatively healthy they're taking him, no program in the country would turn down a talent like Lindsey. Even Matty thinks we need to cool our jets.
  13. Hopefully he rethinks early enrolling with this turmoil at Cal, just feel like we're putting a little bit too much hope into a guy who hasn't given any indication he's wavering from his commitment.
  14. Has there been any recent info indicating he may flip or are we just hoping?
  15. Oklahoma is light years ahead of us, and right next to Texas. Imagine saying that 15 years ago.
  16. Time to scavenge Wyoming's class. Conference Championship here we come.
  17. I like this kid more than any of the other guys we're currently looking at RB (Carr excluded/no way we get him). I think if he would've been eligible a few months earlier he would've gotten a lot of offers from mid to high tier big 10 and big 12 schools. I realize HS football in Nebraska isn't Cali or Florida, but he's quick through the hole, good vision, and shifty. Very impressive film, great in state pickup.
  18. FYI...if this happens and nothing else would change with other programs, this would bump us to the #12 class. I think we all would be ecstatic with that haul, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Clouse has been beating the Darnay drum all fall, so does he really know something? Or is it just trying to get subs? The real question.
  19. It seems like the general consensus from the writers who have seen practice is that Lee looks the part, and will probably start. But it wouldn't be the first time where a new guy on the scout teams get hyped up wayyyyyy too much and ends up not living up to it. I realize Lee is under different circumstances than almost all scout teamers, but at the same time we haven't heard great things about POB. No bad things, but to me it seems like fairly generic answers from people. If I were to guess just based off of the tone from the writers who have seen the two practice, Lee seems to be a little ways ahead. Sam from the OWH evaluates players pretty well imo, and I think he pretty much had the same sentiment. I just feel like it's hard to trust the hype from behind closed doors. I'm hopeful that whoever starts will add a more reliable throwing threat.
  20. I think McQuitty plays, Lewis plays for sure if we land him. There's a few other frosh like Holmes and Johnson that would probably get some time on offense if we land either of them. KJJ has the ball skills to play right away imo, just looks like he needs to develop a little first. Speilman definitely plays, probably could/should have this year.
  21. Definitely more encouraged after watching that video. If one of his main priorities is making an early impact then we are the best option for sure. Still not getting my hopes up, but I'll definitely be watching the fourth quarter on Saturday!
  22. I don't mean to dump on Clouse, I like him and it's always cool to listen to his reports. I think his job is kind of like being a weather man, you can never really know what these recruits are going to do. But if a weather man tells me it's going to be sunny all week and it rains 6 days, I'm going to take his opinion with a grain of salt next time.
