I am optimistic going into this season - I always am. Realistically, though, after the last 15 seasons watching an average football team, I hope to see us become consistently more competitive against the top teams. It is a journey, and many programs are seeking to do the same. No simple solutions, just a lot of hard work.

The smart money is on Iowa, who is still butthurt over Eichorst's explanation of Pelini's firing. "In the final analysis, I had to evaluate where Iowa was." Iowa beat us 42-10 last year, and they have won the last two. If there ever was any "butthurt," I am guessing they are over it. Let's just focus on taking another step forward this year. We haven't finished in the top 10 since 2001 - that is 16 long years.

Doesn't mean a thing. After they hammered us 40-10 last year, we have to prove we are better on the field.
