I'm a fan of Aranda from his time at LSU. I'd be ok w/ him.

I think I know who the mystery man is that checks ALL the boxes. He knows the entire country in football experience, great on the field and the classroom, available immediately now, will almost certainly retain MJ and Busch having worked with both of them.
Experience in Big Ten and Big 12.
Understands the X & Os and the Ps & Qs.
A GRINDER.
Hard working character guy.
I don’t believe anyone has seriously mentioned his name as a candidate yet.
Almost guaranteed fit in Lincoln. Probably be a popular choice for some fans while others will take some time to come to like the success he can achieve. It will be sustainable
Can u guess him?
i will reveal him tomorrow night if nobody gets it sooner.Matt Canada?

I live in iowa and have been to ames hundreds of times. I see no difference in Lincoln vs Ames other than our stadium is quite a bit larger.
Hate to break it to Nebraska fans but when most people think of Lincoln they think of being in the middle not nowhere with cold weather and nothing to do. Not saying it's accurate (well, maybe it is); just saying that's how people perceive it to be.

Bottom line is, Trev isn't going to hire anyone with questionable character or one that clashes the tradition and honor and humility that Nebraska represents. That eliminates Urban, Kiffin, and Deion in my opinion. I repeat: in my opinion.

Yes, Trev probably reached out to them, but doesn't mean that Trev has settled on him. I have seen things on Twitter from a few NU media members saying that NU fans will like the hire, based on name alone. I don't know who they are exactly saying, but this is leaning toward a bigger name (Chris Petersen). Mike'l Severe has stated that he really likes Leipold, but he doesn't think Trev hires Leipold.
Honestly I don't trust too many Nebraska media members. I've seen some of their favorites and they're pretty much opposite of mine. I'd be elated if it were Petersen, but that just seems too good to be true.

Calling Campbell trash, however is inaccurate to say the least.
I don't think anyone is calling him trash, per se; they just don't want him here.

Does anyone here think Campbell can recruit at an elite level at all? From what I’ve read he refuses to go after five star players at Iowa State because he feels they are toxic. That is not how any program gets to an elite level. Deion would recruit at an elite level, but I’m not sure about his coaching ability. Kiffin or Klieman are the best choices in my opinion.
What makes you think that Klieman is any better at recruiting than Campbell?

I think that Alberts is working mighty diligently to get us a good coach. With some of the names that have been mentioned even I’ve begun to wonder and have doubts. We really do need to have realistic expectations. There has to be mutual interest for there to be an agreement. That would seem obvious but we have to recognize that we can’t have about any coach we want.
As an employer, you hire the applicant that expresses interest or one that you’ve successfully recruited. I’m not saying that an exceptional candidate can’t be acquired only that it’s unlikely. Right now it’s a good job and also one that has its own unique challenges.
The task isn’t a simple one for Trev. I think that he’s being painstakingly thorough. There’s a lot of things he has to negotiate through.
One of my concerns - something that others have touched upon - is that he probably started reaching out to potential candidates last year, when Frost's seat was getting really hot. The problem is that some of those he likely reached out to - Campbell, for example - have lost some of their luster since then.

Well, we all still dream of the used to be. But, yes a few 7 win seasons strung together would be nice. Settle for it? No, most of us are still dreamers.
I don't have any delusions of grandeur. That said, 7/8-win ceilings just isn't good enough.

Campbell is at the top of mediocrity. Mickey would be a far better choice
I agree - if your plan is to hire Campbell you're better off keeping Mickey instead

Deion would be Jimbo Fisher 2.0. Great recruiter, but can’t coach at all.
Perhaps, but he'd assemble an incredible staff, and I have no doubt he'd keep MJ on board.

Chadwell's name hasn't been brought up much in many coaching searches that I'm aware of.
I've seen many people mention him as a candidate for GT

I don't want Campbell coming here, either, but we're lower than mediocre as it is now, and we've been below mediocre for years on end. Mediocre would be what, 7 wins per season? 8? And a toilet bowl game at the end of each season. Heck yeah.
See, that's the attitude most fans have. Expectations have fallen so low that people are ok with being mediocre. F that.

His stock is dropping, I know that much. He's probably looking for a way out of Ames and I'm sure Trev is well-aware of his interest.

Lot of mumbling that Kingsbury might get canned. Guessing he is Saban's next OC if that happens. Bob will take a head coaching job this year.
Sounds nice, as long as it's not us.

Matt Campbell is the most overrated coach in the history of college football. His only good year came during 2020 when he was playing every one's scout teams.

I see that we're already locked and loaded for the fallout. Since it was asked of @Guy Chamberlin to provide evidence as to why Urban/Deion aren't realistic candidates, I'm sure it's not too much to ask for proof that they aren't being considered because 'culture'.
As I've said before, I have no proof. Just my own personal belief.
As I've said before, I hope I'm wrong. I just don't think I am.

Where are you seeing any of this from anyone who's not just speculating?
As much as I wish otherwise, be prepared to be disappointed with the hire. Those guys just go against the culture and it's really as simple as that.

A step down? No. Nebraska has fallen, but not that far...
Maybe from your perspective, but on a national level, Ole Miss is the better job right now. Not to mention he's doing well there, so he has no reason to leave.

How's that been working for us?
Exactly. But some people don't like to shake things up. They want routine, and what they're accustomed to. Heck, there are folks who get their panties in a bunch when we wear alternate uniforms one game out of the year.

Even though it might be the injection of revitalization that we need, I just don't see us hiring any of these flashy, big-name guys (Meyer, Deion, Kiffin, etc.) who would go against our traditional, blue-collar, hard-working culture.
-
33 minutes ago, huskerpower22 said:
Yup. Throw Lane Kiffin in that light as well. He was one of the youngest head coaches ever and paid his dues. People still judge him from the past and some immature behavior, when he has clearly turned the corner from his past mistakes. His twitter game is fire and he has a rushing attack that is running as effectively as a service academy school this season.
Again, moving from Ole Miss to Nebraska would be a step down and make no sense
