I'm almost fully convinced that, if this is actually happening, it's political in nature.

    What I’m thinking too.

This should also put to bed Nebraska's obsession with hiring former players for any position in the athletic department.  Frost was an epic disaster as a head coach.  Trev bails for a bigger paycheck before the job is done (FB returning to upper tier B1G, stadium project).

If he leaves, I'd be surprised if it were just for more money.  Seems like he had it pretty good here and doesn't seem the impulsive type.

Because of the coalitions that make up the Democratic Party, having a "good" candidate that appeals to that coalition is really difficult.

The party consists of college educated voters concentrated on the coasts, minority voters in the south, and white union voters in the Midwest. In this coalition, the white female college graduate who lives in California has very different views (climate change, LGTBQ rights) than southern African American voters (police reform, social program investments) who are also much different than Midwest Union voters (trade protection policies). A Democrat in California is a lot different than a democrat in Michigan who is a lot different than a democrat in Georgia.

Pete Buttigieg was a very competitive candidate - and does very well in TV interviews and in debates - with coastal Democrats. However, he had next to no appeal to southern minority voters who dubbed him "Mayo Pete" (which is kind of funny) because he was seen as not really understanding Black voters. All Democrat candidates struggled to appeal to all parts of the coalition, leaving only Joe Biden who was sort of the second or third favorite for each of them as the winner. This is also why it's dangerous for Democrats to move onto a different candidate other than Joe Biden, because they risk alienating any part of that coalition and they'd likely lose.

Compare this with the Republican coalition - which are white voters without college degrees - and their political objects don't change all that much. A white voter without a college degree in Nebraska mostly wants the same thing as a white voter without a college degree in Florida, who wants mostly the same thing as a white voter without a college degree in Texas. It's easier for Republican candidates to nominate anybody with an R next to their name because really anybody appeals to those voters.

A lot of good points made.  It also probably involves people following an unjust narrative about his age, etc.  Plus people just like to complain.

For all their college degrees, I hope these D’s are smart enough not to pull a self serving card and go the “write in” route come November.

  4. All those guys were impressive, but Ty Wallin with the windmill dunk at 250lb+, wow.  Hopefully he can use that athleticism to get after some QBs too.  I'm 50 lb less and can't even touch the damn rim anymore.

Why can't we have nice things?

Scuse me while I go put Raiola in some bubble wrap till fall.

    Jeeeeeepers...

No doubt.  And they just put in more seating to accommodate the demand Jordy Bahl brings.  What a downer.  Hopefully people still show up.  Most of all, hopefully Jordy recovers fully, gets the medical wavier and gets two more years to play.

  6. I came across this site the other day:  https://www.youtube.com/@EyesOnCinema.  If you care to take a trip down the rabbit hole, here's a good place to start IMO.  I'm not saying that I think all or even any of it is true, but some of this is pretty wild to consider nonetheless.  Keep an open mind and check some of these vids out if you're at all interested in the whole UFO/UAP phenomena.  There's a ton of this sort of stuff on Youtube.  I had no idea this "rabbit hole" was so freaking deep.  Kind of mind-blowing.  I've found myself not so much interested in the alleged beings or crafts per se, but the decades long cover ups, disinformation, the apparent ongoing slow-drip of public disclosure, and just the entire human psychology and other ramifications/rationale behind said coverup and disclosure.

Maybe:dunno.   Then again, I kinda like the one I have so maybe not :ahhhhhhhh

Well anyway, back to your voting post.   Let’s walk through your post and assessment of voters who will write in a candidate instead of vote for Trump.

Joe “The Big Guy” Biden got over 81 million voters in 2020.  Trump didn’t :hellloooo

So……now that everything is going great one would assume Joe will gain some voters or at the very least keep everything he has.   As @teachercd has explained, who is gonna vote Trump that voted Joe last time.

Now back to the people you call “dips#!ts”.   The “dips#!ts” are helping because for every “dips#!t” that writes in a candidate, Trump will have to gain someone else just to lose by the same margin.

    Hope that helps :thumbs

I was kidding about the job thing.  I’m not one to talk on that.

Your explanation isn’t bad.   But if one writes in, then doesn’t that imply that they equally dislike the two listed on the ballot?   If that’s not the case, then why not vote for the guy (or gal- hopefully some day) that you dislike the least?

  8. 8 hours ago, Archy1221 said:

Ahhhhhh, forgot us “dips#!ts” are supposed to listen to the overlords on who to vote for:blink:

Maybe some of the “dips#!ts” live in states where the vote doesn’t really matter a whole heck of lot.   Maybe voting for who you want vs who you are told to us a good thing.

Maybe The Big Guy who got over 80 million votes last election with a record breaking DOW shouldn’t really need the “dips#!t” vote to win?  One would think he will outperform 2020 vote totals easily with how swimmingly things are going.  Amirite!

Maybe you should get a job.

If the commitment doesn’t come tonight I don’t think we’ll see it until Monday. I think Rhule wouldn’t want it overshadowing the volleyball team. He strikes me as that kind of guy. But if Monday comes and goes…I’ll be sweatin’ bullets.

I don’t think it overshadows VB.  I can’t see Rhule orchestrating when to announce.  Not his style.  If VB loses and we lose DR. I’m quitting the internet.

Does anybody actually think we will get a so called top tier transfer qb from that list?  I remember HC Matt Rhule saying it would cost 1.5 to 2 million to have a good qb but that might be to low to draw them here.  I would be shocked if Nebraska does get a great qb with NFL potential or is willing to spend.  Nebraska probably will say we aren't about spending and more about developing.

I bet we try and I don’t think the spending is the biggest problem.  I would be surprised if a “top tier “ wanted to come here.  If I had to guess I’d say a solid next tier or younger guy with multiple years of eligibility and no past turnover problems.  Just a gut feeling.

Let's be real, cheer the fans for that one, not any administrator.  Kudos to the AD for actually doing it but no other place on Earth has fans that show up 92k strong for a women's sport period, let alone a regular season match.

Of course, NU fans show up and support better than pretty much anywhere, but it's not like it was just some half-assed or hodge-podge event thrown together.  Not only just the gutsy decision to do it, but the planning, coordinating and promoting was all very impressive. This all happened under Trev's watch and I think it's fair that he deserves some of the credit.

I think Alberts is grossly overpaid with his new deal. He got an absolute gift from Ted Carter on his way out the door. Trev is paid like a top ten 10 AD despite having ZIPPO in terms of notable accomplishments since he's taken over at Nebraska. I'll level with you though, I'm always going to hate his guts for what he did to UNO Wrestling and I'm way to close to that situation to be impartial unfortunately.

With that derail out of the way, I'm super pumped for Tony White to have secured a fresh new bag! GBR!

Volleyball Day was an accomplishment that no AD has done, ever.

And...over 80% of those came from one position.

Not to state the obvious, but I think what we are asking our quarterbacks to do has led to the turnover epidemic.  Unless the next Kyler Murray comes calling, I’m done with “dual threat “ quarterbacks and whatever type system this staff is trying to run.

Who cares. Not a single non-replaceable guy on that side of the football.

My point is that one needs to be eliminated to make room.  Not that anyone is irreplaceable.  I’d probably ax the dedicated TE coach.

  15. Defense:  B.  Good, but not great.  Mostly did a good job against bad offenses.  Needed to generate more takeaways.

Offense:  D.  Too many turnovers.  Do they have an identity?  Would have been an F, but unit was decimated with injuries.

ST:  C.  Some good and some bad.  Lot's of room for improvement on punt/punt return.

Overall, as impressive as the perfect October was, I was disappointed with the 0-4 finish,  when just one win gets us to a bowl.
