  1. Sorry for the double post..

Been thinking about these pod weekends and correct me if I'm wrong but I think they'll be a huge benefit going into post season play. Especially if having to come out of the loser bracket side. B1G players and coaches will have had a number of pod weekends to learn how to play their arms and prepare their heads. Am I wrong or do others agree?

  2. Gotta say.. I've watched the "Through Our Eyes" with Snacks and Ty Robinson multiple times and you know what.. The love, the respect, the unity they show with one another is HUGE. There really is genuine love and family feel. No divide. No racial tensions. Only one for all and I don't know about the rest of you but I'm drinking the koolaid they're pouring. I think that video, the last words spoken by Ty and the reaction from snacks shows it all. We win together, We lose together, We sweat together, we are ONE!!! ONE FAMILY lovin on each other. Great Video!!! Giving my HUGE hope. GBR!!!

NU has 17 games left, including 5 against Rutgers and 3 against NW. Even though Rutgers looks like they could be sneaky tough, I would think NU should come out of those 8 games with a winning record, say 5-3. That means they need to go 5-4 against UM, IU, and OSU to get to 30 wins. To me 30 wins seems attainable, and 31-32 wins is a realistic stretch goal. The biggest challenge is that NU has to do two 4 game away split series (RU/IU and IU/OSU) with decent opponents; those two series will either bury IU or allow them to pull even with NU. Those 8 games will make or break NU's conference title hopes IMO. If NU sweeps RU this weekend then I think the stretch goal becomes the focus with a conference title being squarely in focus.

Your post above lays out perfectly the reasons i selected Michigan. I think the only way Nebraska wins the title is to win every remaining series and in at least 1 of the 2 pods they need to go 3-1 (the other a split at 2-2). However, if they go 2-2 in both pods and lose the series to Michigan to end the season, which is highly possible, than Michigan would win the title. Like you, the 3 game deficit Iowa faces is the reason I didn't chose them. I think Michigan reaches 33 wins, Nebraska 32 wins, Indiana and Iowa 30 wins. Additionally, I think Nebraska comes into the final weekend needing to sweep to clinch. The final stretch of our schedule is incredibly difficult. We'll need our bats to support our arms to have a shot at winning the title.

  4. Looking at the remaining schedule, Iowa's road to 30 wins is by far the easiest path. Personally I have them going 12-3 at worst over their last 15. Nebraska, Indiana and Michigan all have to play one another over the same stretch so I ask, who you believe wins the title and why?

Edit: I chose Michigan... as I believe their path is less daunting than Nebraska's or Indiana's and Iowa, even if they go 12-3 still is only at 30 wins. I think Michigan reaches 32 wins.

  5. If we hosted that regional everyone would be happy with the host regardless. Also, the good of the regional host is being the 1 seed. (Imagine being the 2 seed or 3 seed.)

Texas Tech is much better at home, UCLA is incredibly hot & cold. Wright State is experienced and wins with pitching and defense so there's a really good mix of small ball to power offense and the one thing for certain is, in the end we'd get to watch if pitching or power paves the way.

It would be yes, but the most important thing to look for is first (who's in our regional) then (who's the likely super regional opponent). First we need to make it out of the Regional though.

I mean I'd be happy with a regional title.

I think, like me, you'd be happy with a conference title and elated with a regional title. Gotta take it one step at a time. One series at a time.. Game by Game, Day by Day, We Get Better & Better, Can't Be Beat, Won't Be Beat!!! GBR!!!!!!!

  7. From the Rutgers Rivals forum

Maybe it is just the difference in experience, but the difference in the lineups today was that Michigan was terrific when behind in the count. They did most of their damage with two strikes – – all the key base hits came with two strikes and less than three balls, including five of the six RBI. The other RBI was on a sac fly. Stanavitch looked so sharp striking out the first two batters and getting ahead of the next three. But they just managed to go with the pitch and slap singles. the last inning, UM struck out the side — with one strike three taken right down the middle and two swinging strikeouts on balls well out of the strike zone. Today was just the difference between a talented and mature lineup vs. a talented and young lineup.

    Tweet about Rutgers Saturday pitcher.

Interesting comment about the Saturday B1G broadcast:

Just turned on BTN+ to watch. Again very disappointed in what the other schools produce for their home games. I can't believe that Michigan doesn't have enough money to provide announcers for their broadcast. Ran into this many times with other teams. Try watching WSOC, WLAX Softball and Field Hockey with no announcers. Sometimes they only have fixed cameras. I just don't understand. When we were asked to join the B1G we were told we had to upgrade our broadcast facilities. That's done, so can the rest of the league upgrade theirs to be as good as ours?
    Rant done ---- for now.

Glad to see I'm not the only one sick of the B1G Ten's demands on the schools and then a lack of concern in the actual coverage. BTN is horrible. Actually, horrible isn't a strong enough word. Even horrendous doesn't fully indicate my distaste for BTN.

Finally.. A Sunday Fan Quote following the game on Sunday.

    Great win!

I looked ahead to see when the playoffs are but found that the baseball teams continue to play weekend series against one another for another month or more. Is there no B1G championship series?

It's a shame that RU blew the two weekends against PSU and Iowa. Had those gone better, RU could still be playing for the B1G regular season title.

Overall, a very nice 3-1 weekend for RU in Ann Arbor. The results this spring, particularly against OSU, MSU, PSU, and Michigan demonstrate that RU overall now has a B1G level athletic program.

This weekends series will not be an easy win. Hopefully Haymarket will be loud and supportive.

  8. This conference... The B1G has their only ranked team losing the rubber match.. or.. a multiple extra inning game involving the team leading the conference.. or.. the now #2 team scoring 23 runs and what do they, the btn, give their viewers? Rerun football games. I can't stand this conference's disdain for baseball. It's absolutely vomit inducing disrespect for this nations spring and summer sport. Wish this hellishly awful conference would just drop the sport so the teams that want to promote the game can play other like minded programs. Totally beginning to despise this conference and it's administrators. Like most of the schools. Just can't stand the leadership.

You seem to be very concerned how NU compares to the rest of the country and NU’s chances in the NCAA tournament. I agree that is the long-term goal and getting NU back to that level of baseball. However, this is basically Bolt’s first year. He didn’t have a complete rebuild, but he has the team playing a lot better than previous years. Winning the conference would be a great “first step” for the program under Bolt. Then the next few years, we can look for NU to be competitive in regionals and beyond. Even Van Horn’s NU teams took a few years to get over the hump nationally.

Gave this a champion up mark.. Very good post. Agree completely with your statement. My point is, there's husker fans on national sites (like D1 Baseball) screaming about Michigan being ranked and Huskers aren't. We all know there exists a national bias against us (wink) (wink)... Husker fans need to be behind the team and let them (the team) do the talking for us. This "if Michigan is ranked, we should also be ranked" is garbage. We should just keep hoping our boys win series.. 1 at a time and let destiny reveal itself. We as fans, well... we should cheer them on, positively support them and not go out tooting our own horns.

  10. Today should be a wake-up call to anyone that believes a B1G team deserves to be ranked and before you say we can't win them all first ponder that MSU had 3 errors in the game. I've said to friends and now I'll say it here. At this point in the season, with zero out of conference games, no (not a single big) team deserves a ranking. Michigan losing at home and Nebraska unable to win with the opponent putting up 3 errors.

Now, hopefully both NU and Michigan correct things and get series wins.

  11. Its Friday, Game Day, Time to dig in, to look the pitcher in the eye and know the bat will hit its mark. It's Friday, Game Time!! Bullpen warming, Runners Scoring, In Field turning doubles and at the end, completion.. 3 Games Baby.. Go Out and WIN, WIN, WIN!!! Go Big Red!!!!!!
