  1. throwing a guy to get 2 innings on a Tuesday and not using him again until Saturday isn't an issue. They used Daiss for 2 innings and he'll be used if needed Friday. Bullpen arms are meant to throw in consecutive nights. They aren't stressed with 70+ pitches and are often used only in situational pitching. Nebraska could have used Horn for 2, KP for 2 (not likely KP would have given up 4+ runs) and Olsen for 2 followed by 1 inning each for Borst, Daiss, Sanders... May or may not have made a difference but to argue the weekend bullpen shouldn't be used on Tuesday is kind of a senseless statement in the full spectrum of the game.

  2. midweek games are developmental games and it's why the voters don't put much emphasis on them. Still, if Nebraska wants to continue it's poll climb they'll need to win every series and sweep one like Rutgers who has really struggled of late. Scary thing is, Rutgers has the offense to really challenge us and their Saturday starts (outside of High Point) have been exceptionally difficult. Can't express how important it is for us to win Friday. Especially on the road. As for the midweek game. It wouldn't hurt Bolt to use an under used experienced pitcher like KP in say innings 3 & 4 on a regular basis given the success Sears has been having on Friday's imo, which as we all know isn't worth a grain of salt. Huskers are ranked and we're here bit*&ing about it. In the prez's words "Come On Man".

  3. KU is on a 4 game losing skid. (Midweek to Wichita St and the weekend sweep by W. Virginia)

We'll need to score some runs tonight.. going to take 7 or more to win but the Huskers are ready!!

    Hit'em hard boys!! GBR

  4. It's good to see we stayed ranked. Midweek games shouldn't have a huge effect on rankings. Winning series and staying atop the conference will earn us a regional host. Even if we win 42+ games though we won't be a super regional seeded team though. Unless, and the season is only half over, something drastically changes. Go on a 10-0 or 12-0 run and well... one never knows. Regardless, 2 series into conference play and the good guys are still on top. AWESOME!!!

  5. Coons is a hack umpire. I'm predicting Bolt or Childress will be tossed before this game ends. Coons will do everything he can to put our pitching & hitters at a disadvantage. He openly hates Nebraska and should be banned from umpiring any and all Nebraska games.

  6. Series win.. Series win.. Coming from behind to win it 7-3

Go Big Red.. 5 & 0 baby... Awesome outing by the arms again. 3 pitchers used over 2 games. Fresh pen for the Sunday match up!!

Illinois keeps the pressure on though.. scoring 3 in the 9th to take the 7-4 lead.

Let's get some more insurance runs!

Done.. Top on 9, lead stretched to 5. 7-2 good guys. Worthley on to close it out. Good outing by him today as well. If he shuts the door the huskers will have used only 3 pitchers in the first 2 games.

    1-10 with risp

As a fan it frustrates me. Have to wonder how much more frustrating it must be for the players and staff. I keep saying I'm worried about the sticks but they keep scoring enough to win. Hoping it continues all weekend. GBR!!!

  9. I'm watching the Michigan/Iowa game. Iowa's arms are throwing mostly breaking balls. Honestly, I'm not sure I've seen a consecutive fastball/fastball thrown. Loads of sliders and curves. Ugh... hate off speed pitchers. Give me the heat baby!!

  10. The ERA leader below (DeVooght) is a situational pitcher mostly. He typically throws 2 innings on the day of his starts and then it's turned over to the bullpen. Christo of late has kind of been that as well all be it he's been getting 4+ innings. He throws hard, has a pitching motion that torque's his elbow a lot as well. (Not releasing from the high point of his arm motion) So, putting in the Sunday spot keeps him extremely relevant in the team's success while also allows them to rest his arm more for the long haul.

The Ohio State arm is scary at 1.15 until you look into his starts. (Link Here)

Yes I still feel the same. First baseball is a funny game, and nothing is guaranteed and on Tuesday it felt like the Huskers were pressing at the plate against Creighton and they failed to do what they have done all season long so far in generating runs. Mid-week college baseball games are often crap shoots to begin with as the caliber of arms is much lower than in the weekends, look at how bad Creighton looked last night against North Dakota State, hanging on to win 8-7. On Tuesday Central Arkansas beat a ranked Miss St. team and Tarleton State almost beat perennial power Dallas Baptist losing 7-8. Yesterday Maryland almost lost to UMBC winning 13-12.

I would love to see NU and Creighton match up in a weekend series, it would be a fun one. The Huskers are halfway through the season with 27 left to play and they are already at 20 wins against a pretty decent schedule, 33rd overall SoS per Warren Nolan, and have a predicted final record of 43-13. This guaranteed nothing, but the Huskers have done enough over the first half of a good schedule to earn my confidence in them being a pretty good team. Just how good is still TBD, but a single mid-week game doesn’t change that.

That is a well thought out and even better articulated response. Thank you!!

Personally, I felt like the game plan going in was to swing with power to get the ball in the air and let the wind carry it out. (Hence swing twice at balls in the dirt early and struggling the entire game with the slider.) I do think Husker fans tend to not give Creighton credit. Creighton this year is a very solid ballclub that just might stand in the way of us hosting. We have 2 more midweek games to get the head to head. I'm sooo hoping we are successful.

As for the predicted.. As hopeful as I am that we can win the final 2 against the bluebabies it's double for eating crow on my predictions. I desperately want Nebraska to host. So I obviously prefer having to eat crow. I've said I expect us to drop at least 1 game this weekend. I still feel that way but if we just win each and every series that should get the conference regular season title but Illinois is going to be a contender.. They have by far the easiest remaining schedule and to host we have to be a conference regular season champion. Sadly, we don't play Illinois this year.

I've had BTN+ for years, and I searched for the game last night and could not find it.  I believe Creighton, as the home team, had the Big East network supercede Plus.

That is a correct assumption. Part of the reason why I suffered the weather and the humiliation live and in person. Last night's performance was the absolute worst display of hitting i think i've ever seen. It's like the husker's have never seen a slider or a change up. Maybe with the wind at their backs the idea was to hit bombs so they were swinging wildly and all the wild the bluebabies fans were cheering them on.

If we were playing Creighton in a 3 game weekend set, I would favor the Huskers right now.

I'm curious, hindsight being 20/20.. Do you still favor Nebraska knowing how unpredictable Christo has been and the wild swings our hitters do? Nebraska has talent but that talent isn't showing up consistently. Truth is, they could easily only have 2 losses but they could just as easily have 4 or more losses and they get 2 more chances against the bluebabies.  Hopefully they can win the next two. Sadly, I expect a weekend loss for this exact reason. No scary bats, to many wild swings and a loose defense (2 more errors tonight).

I believe we are a post season team but we are not currently playing like a regional host team. To host we need to win the conference and have 40 plus wins. We will also have to win the Creighton series because both Nebraska & Creighton won't host and Creighton could easily run away with the Big East. Nebraska needs to figure out their sticks or they won't finish in the top 3 of the B1G. (Illinois, Iowa and M State will challenge for that honor.)

I sat in the stands and puked inwardly at cheers with every wild swings. So no, right now I'm finding it hard to be positive!!

  14. Could be a very explosive game tonight. Forecasted winds are Gusts +20 mph from the Northwest. Currently at 19mph from the Northwest.. Wind might shorten the outfield but for sure will effect the pitchers. Why can't this game be played in perfect weather every time.. Guess I'll be wearing my heavy husker jacket instead of my favorite Huskers mesh, full button jersey.. Ugh... and sitting amongst all that blue  :steam (dang it Huskerboard, add in a vomit Emoji please)

  15. The BTN+ broadcast of Nebraska home games is really good. Truth is, you can watch every game (home & away) on BTN+ but sometimes, like the previous series, you have to tolerate horrendous play by play. (Northwestern used college students and they were really crappy)
