Perusing some resumes for some of the dark horse candidates, as much as some people point to record as a reason to ding somebody like Leipold, you could certainly apply it more harshly to some other candidates people like as well.
DeBoer has coached all of 18 games at the D1 level. He only won 9 games in the Mountain West last year. He did not win the conference.
Doeren hasn't cracked double digit wins in ten years when he was at NIU winning the MAC. His record at NC State looks a lot more like Bo's with several 9 win seasons with some worse ones sprinkled in, in arguably a worse conference(s). He's good for a 58% win percentage in the ACC.
Just food for thought.
Additionally...Leipold, DeBoer and Doeren, read/sound like 2nd string 3-Musketteer names.

How long does Trev have with his hire?
If head coach Mickey Joseph's Cornhuskers win 4 out of the next 8, then the conversations about a new coach change drastically.... because that would be pretty impressive.
Why? Because one would factor in that, from the start of the season, MJ possibly could've beat GSU and NW as well. And that's a bowl team at 6-6. Something Nebraska has not done since 2016.
If coach Mickey Joseph gets his Husker team to win 5 out of the next 8.... then that is your coach for next season for sure. Give him a contract.
How could you not? I mean, After the GS game, the home base and Projections have been saying 1-2 wins max total for 2022.
5 wins - he's our guy, without a doubt.
4 wins - and you have to really consider keeping him into next season.
And he is a Husker alum, former player, and a great coach. For years and years, He has cut his teeth on the gridiron, a solid coach, great man, and has been extremely effective inside the homes of recruits.
I agree with this.

He had already interviewed for 3 D1 jobs so he doesn’t appear to be waiting for anything other than a better opportunity.I honestly feel if he was offered the Nebraska job he would take it in a heartbeat...the guy is about creating positive impact and what better way to do than in middle America where "Prime Time" is viewed as flashy/about me and realizing it can be about hardwork and us

I'm seeing your point. All that fits. Deion might jolt the fan base in a good way.
I can completely understand though the mind f#&% that older (myself in that) Husker fans are thinking ..."Neon Deion is the Nebraska Cornhuskers HC!!!! I Hate FSU!!!!!"
But it actually makes perfect sense.

Deion Sanders is an intriguing prospect. I would refer to him as what has been described as a "cleaner". He's making things happen!
What is his interest level though and do you think that he could make the transition? He relates well with players. Not sure about it being a culture fit. It would take some getting used to for the fan base.
Listening to the guy, he is thought provoking and makes a lot of sense.
Hear what you are saying. At the end of the day though, the guy (atleast from what I have seen) brings straightforwardness, hard work ethic and connection/motivation. That's the "culture" we all want.

I want Deion as a coach simply because it would blow people's minds. If we could add Warren Sapp as DC, Michael Irving as OC and Bozworth as AD...that would be f#&%ing awesomely funny.

I get the, "let's just have an identity" responses but if I had to pick one...I am going defensive all the way. I badass D makes a team feel badass all around..the O will make strides (hopefully). Teams that are offensively focused generally seem to be accompanied by a D that is hit and miss on weekly performance.

There seems to be a split between the Lincoln boosters (and their kids who were friends with Frost) and the boosters and former players who live in Omaha.

Diaco's defense didn't tackle in practice or in the games....and he still gets jobs.
Problem with football is kids growing up used to tackle in practice, you get to college and it's kinda a given you know how to tackle....now, every coach thinks their a GM and runs their s#!t like it's a pro team when they are 10

It isn’t pretty but these things have to be done. Chinander wasn’t qualified when he came in and he goes out likewise. Enough with the marshmallow defense.
I feel little to zero sympathy for college coaches at P5 schools who get fired. They make ridiculous coin, get to travel in style, stay at 5 star hotels, get perks on auto leasing, free meals, wear shorts and sweats to work, etc, etc. All you gotta do is not suck. And even if you do suck and get fired your highly likely to pick up, at minimum, a high 5 figure salary at a FCS school or low 6 figure salary at an FBS school. Rinse and repeat
And people put wayyyyyy too much, "well they coach, so they must know what they are doing" on these guys...I have been around a bunch of college coaches in my life and it's not like all of them are "football savants"...a good chunk are just dudes who decided to coach because they had nothing else going on.
Realize my brush is pretty big on this, there are coaches who put in the time and perfect their craft, but again there are many that are just wanting to stay on "the gravy train with biscuit wheels."

Yeah it’s effin nuts what some people are saying. Even 6 or 7 wins…after these last 3 games??
WTF, I can’t even….
Exactly. Hypothetical thought here.
MJ and Frost exact coaching careers were swapped and MJ was let go and Frost was moved to interim...I think it is safe to assume that the "7 or more wins and I still don't think he should be retained" crowd would have less members.

That’s awful. Nobody should be given the job based on race.
Ok, how about going undefeated

Imo he should not be given the job. Even 9’wins. I think if Trev has a short list of the most qualified coaches, it’ll be tough cause he may have the coach hired by Nov 1 or sooner. It depends on the competition. Many of the coaches referenced have better resume. MJ has one distinct advantage. He gets to have the trial run. Wins are a factor but MJ’s best shot is to show leadership, FB smarts in terms of strategy, game management, practice conduct, media relations, staff oversight, etc. wins and losses are maybe less a factor for this year for this team. Trev knows how bad the team is so he knows Mickey can only do so much. Intangibles. Most fans won’t really see the things Trev sees. He may see a better HC than we ever do or vice versa.
Same with interviews and private references etc. with every candidate. We won’t know any of them except the one hired nor likely the reason(s) pro and con. Rightly so imo.
If he wins 9 games and does NOT get the job, I am glad I am the one not having to explain to America why a minority coach who took a dumpster fire and went undefeated did not atleast get a 2 year contract. And the questions surrounding this would be completely justified.

If he wins 8 games he has to get it.
7 Games top candidate (top 3)
4-6 games, short list. (Top 5)

The OL and DL need built. Outside of that, it is just culture. My view is that Frost never got those two areas ever recruited or developed.
This, moreso to the DL. I think there are things you can do on the OL that can pay immediate divdends...whereas our DL, you can't just magically learn half-man on a rush in the immediate term, of course they could just say to the ends "get up field" but unless you understand it, our guys will just get washed by. Additionally our hand fighting (getting half man, hitting arms, etc) is poor. Very robotic
