are you conflating those with a contagious disease?  when a fat person walks by you are you catching obesity from them?    do you get diabetes from someone sitting next to you at the game?    2nd hand smoke is real...i will give you that 1.

No, I’m telling you they take up lots and lots and lots of hospital resources similar to the complaint from a different poster.  And it’s a choice they are making taking those resources away from someone else apparently.

Will we not treat future flu patients if they haven’t received a flu vaccine? Will we treat cervical cancer and anal cancer patients if they haven’t received the HPV vaccine?

BTW…How do you not know that you can’t catch fatness or diabetes from someone else?  It’s crazy you had to ask those two questions.

when china stops letting people go to the US/when all the infected mexicans stop crossing the border/

When did he say either of the two statements would end Covid like you insinuate?  Simply not true.

He did say that illegals are bringing Covid in (true statement).   But never said Covid would end once they stopped or once Chinese didn’t come over.

and even though he knew it, refused to say anything in favor of the vaccine until last week.

This is a blatantly false statement.  Question for you is why lie about it?  Trump says enough dumb and goofy stuff that you don’t really need to make it up:dunno

He has always been very public about his feelings that children don't get that sick, thus they should not be vaccinated.

When did he say kids shouldn’t be vaccinated?  Seems like another made up story.

I wonder how many hospitalizations are still from previous Delta infections?

I'll say it before, and I'll say it again--at this point, if you choose to not be vaccinated and can be vaccinated, people shouldn't be admitted to a hospital bed or receive treatment.

As long as your consistent with the fat asses, type 2 diabetics, and smokers then we are all good with this.

The only mention of CRT was a Twitter account, as @Lorewarn mentioned above, and yourself. No other poster did.

Ummm some poster actually had to post the tweet you are referencing.  So ya, he/she kinda did mention it or they wouldn’t have posted the tweet.  Interesting how that works.

I don’t think RedDenver (you know the actual poster who put the original info out from a tweet lumping those two things together in the same tweet) is in the same party as me:dunno

noooo...the right hasn't been trying to disuade people from getting the vax.

Sooooo…near everyone here calls Trump “dear leader” and  his admin helped usher in the vaccine, he has been pro vaccine, Senate minority and House minority leaders have advocated for the vaccine yet the right has been trying to dissuade proper from getting vax because the internet goofs on the far end of the spectrum are crazy??

All I said was it doesn't help.

Shameless, explicit (and condescending) pandering, not to issues or principles but to the brand of a cult of personality, used to be considered shameless and condescending before Trump shifted the Overton window. I think that's lame and Trump-influenced and Trump-esque across the board, certainly not exclusive to DeSantis but absolutely includes him.

I agree wholeheartedly that a cult of personality is bad.  It should start and stop with policy.

The original post had a comment from a poster that you didn’t include.   That would provide more context than what you seem willing to share/admit

Wasn’t that an add in 2017/2018 before he was a Governor?  Pandering to a constituency that had a 90+% favorability to Trump at that time makes him Trump 2.0???  Surely you can do better than this?

Now if you would have said policy wise they are pretty much the same without the narcissism, then I could definitely understand that.

The numbers I found for 2021 list interest on debt at 5%. :dunno

Obviously whatever the real number is has to be maintained. I did build a surplus into my spending which would be used to reduce the debt and therefore reduce interest in future years.

Here is where I got the 9% figure from

    https://www.crfb.org/papers/how-high-are-federal-interest-payments

Two other sources had it around 8.5%

It is helpful to look at where the revenue is coming from and what the current spending levels are. Don’t want to attack anyone but I don’t think that is happening based on some of yall’s numbers.

    Social Security 18% (+1%)
    Medicare & Health 25% (+3%)

    Defense 7% (-4%)

    Safety Net Programs 24% (same)

    Interest on Debt 5% (same)

    Veterans Benes 3% (same)

    Education 6% (+2%)

    Transportation 4%

    Science&Research 4%
    Genl Govt & Other 1%

    Surplus 3%

I couldn’t find current spending levels for transportation and science/research. I didn’t dig too deeply as I couldn’t match the proposed categories exactly to existing. I’m sure Id have all the answers with about 1 more day to look into it

I did find it surprising that I am not changing things more drastically. But hey, my budget has a surplus that could service the debt.

Everyone so far has the debt service at 5% yet it accounts for 9% of the current budget and will likely rise when rates rise.  Do people want to default and not pay the countries obligations?  Not directed solely at you, just replying to the current message and get your perspective on this

Okay. So I'll ask you directly: what specifically about CRT makes it wrong to teach?

We don't have to talk about you twisting my words into something they are not.

Rather than me rehashing everything I’ve already said on this, do a search for the conversation I had on the subject with ZRod.  He pretty much asked the same question.

I was giving you props for finally not twisting someone words into something they are not.  I was giving you props for not implying what someone said and just going with what was said.

    18% - Social Security

    17% - Medicare/Medicaid/CHIP/Marketplace Subsidies

2% - Defense and National Security Assistance

15% - Safety Net Programs (a recent ex is the child credit program - also think supplemental income for disabled etc)

5% - Interest on Government Debt

0 - Benefits for Veterans and Government/Federal Employees

    15% - Transportation

    13% - Education

    15% - Science & Medical Research

I'm not sure why exactly the benefits federal employees get are paid for by us - many for their lifetime after they serve.  I do believe vets should get that, but do not agree that our 1 term congressperson should get them, nor the past president of the US when so many use their time in office to make a ton of money afterward.

I think we spend far too much on defense, and that if we had a responsible government (as most recently democratic presidents have shown) you can cut the debt by practical spending.  The fact that we let recent GOP leaders run the table giving tax cuts and other monetary benefits to their populace has increased the debt substantially - for all the wrong reasons.

I could probably be convinced some of my percentages are off, but I think we must take care of our people first and foremost.

Interesting topic.  I’m not quibbling with any of how you personally want your dollars allocated, it’s just an FYI… You have 5% allocated for debt service.  Currently our debt service is 9% in a historically low interest rate environment.  If everyone chose the 5%, we would default as a country.

I think this exercise should start with the debt service being taken out first to fully find the payments, and then parcel out the rest as you have.

Why is it on the tax payer to wipe this away?

The only possible option I could get behind outside of those people paying their own bill is allowing student loans to be discharged or drawn down in bankruptcy court like other debt with the same type of penalties.   Otherwise if Gov is gonna pay off student loan debt then pay off my mortgage too or write me a check for the amount of my college and my kids college.  Or just pay me in Ethereum preferably.

Ok, 2022 is upon us and it will be all about the congressional races - or will it be.  Speculation will be high on who will announce first for a run at the 2024 presidential nomination.  This article notes 10 possible GOPers who could announce their campaign for 2024 as soon as the ink is dry on the last congressional ballot

    https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/586002-the-10-republicans-most-likely-to-run-for-president

Trump, Pence, Cruz, Cotton, Christie, Noem, Halley,  DeSantis, Pompeo, Hogan.   Several of these say they won't run if Trump runs - that in my mind disqualifies them already. Not just because they are Trumpists but because they don't believe in themselves enough to overcome someone as flawed as Trump.  Gov Hogan from Maryland is the only one on the list I could support at this time. Pence is damaged goods to me, not because he stood up to the pressure of Jan 6, but because he didn't stand up to the pressure when the access Hollywood tapes came out in 2016. If he had, history would have been different.  Cotton is an opportunist, headline grabber, Cruz is well Cruz - nothing more needs to be said,  Christi is trying an image make over, Noem and Halley are differing to Trump, DeSantis is Trump 2.0, Pompeo is Trump's puppet.  That leaves me wt Hogan who isn't afraid to call out Trump & take on the trump lies and tell the truth and who wants to return the GOP back to the traditional GOP image and values of Lincoln, Ike & Reagan.  Hogan won the governorship in a blue state and of all of the GOPers would have the best opportunity to attract Democrats and Independents.  He also would have a uniquely single lane to run in - as someone on this list  who was never associated with Trump or a strong supporter of Trump.  Thus, while all of the Trump like or Trump light candidates duke it out trying to out trump each other, Hogan could get all of the votes of those who are ready to move on from the trump drama.  (Kind of the opposite of 2016 - when Trump let all of the other candidates try to out conservative each other while he picked up votes doing the unconventional things.)

I’m curious on what makes DeSantis Trump 2.0?

The floor is yours. What was your intent when you introduced the idea of people teaching that slavery didn't exist to this particular discussion?

That question has already been answered on this page.  You may also check out the post I originally replied to.  What was their intent on bringing CRT into that discussion since you magically know everyone’s intent.

Deep down inside, I know that racism is systemic, and nothing I've read of actual Critical Race Theory strikes me as either factually incorrect or misguided. But for many years I was one of those white people who thought CRT was a little extreme for my taste. Then over the years I realized this wasn't about "my taste" and that deep down, racism in this country was simply more horrific and ongoing than I wanted to believe, and Critical Race Theory wasn't extreme --- just a very uncomfortable truth.

Deep down I also believe that you know what you're doing when you say "teaching that slavery didn't exist" is wrong and that "teaching CRT is wrong."  Once again you lean on semantics to bail you out (you didn't use the word "equal') but your intent is to offer a ludicrous straw man extreme in an attempt to dismiss a far more pertinent example.

Ahhh, love how you magically know everyone’s “intent”.  Seems to be whatever you deem it to be no matter how nonsensical your claim is.
Probably just more trolling from you :dunno
