  1. I'll take your bet. If we hire BK I'll need to spend the $100 to get rid of the nausea
  2. Thoughts on Bryan Harsin? I think you can throw out his time at Auburn in evaluating him since his boosters are waging a war against him. 45 y/o, 84-31 as a HC, ran the offense under Chris Petersen at Boise and probably wayward soon. Not an amazing recruiter but you can hire those. Excellent gameday coach and program builder.
  3. We've got horses if you go by 247 stars. We just haven't developed. I'm hoping whoever we hire brings in Tim Polasek to coach the line. Guy made some monsters at Iowa and he's probably going to be looking for a new job this offseason
  4. Whittingham would be great. Wish we'd hired him in 2013 when he interviewed. What gives me pause there is that it seems well understood at Utah and by national journos that he's retiring within the next 2-4 years, which sucks because he's almost typecast for the job. Gundy would be great too and I know he wants out of there. He'd bring a great staff. Honestly he's my top choice outside guys with huge price tags (Urban/Aranda) Herman has a lot of red flags rumor-wise from his time at OSU and Texas that make me think he's not in consideration. I'd rather bring in someone who's currently coaching. Being away from the role for an extended period affects performance.
  5. Not sure what you guys see in Jamey Chadwell that gives you hope that he can step into a P5 office and run it effectively. He's coached at: - East Tennessee State - Charleston Southern - North Greenville - Delta State - Coastal Carolina His record as CC HC without Grayson McCall, one of the most efficient QBs in the last decade is 13-23. He's played ONE (1) P5 team his entire time at CCU aside from Kansas, BYU, which was scheduled five days in advance and played at home. If you think his scheme would work in the Big Ten, go see what the BYU defense did against him with five days to prepare. Everything I've heard and observed about Frost's failure is that he was inexperienced and didn't have the attention to detail to be a great P5 coach. This seems like it would be a complete disaster in the exact same way. I'm happy to be convinced otherwise but the empirical data doesn't exist. Maybe a comp if someone has one?
  6. It’s a rebuild. Are there some tools in the toolbox? Yes. The portal certainly helps. Nebraskas actually in a great spot with the portal because it’s just bad enough that great programs can cycle guys here and we can pick off talent from the G5/FCS. It’s kinda already setting up that way. That said, this team should be bowling next year with the returning production numbers. It’s probably four years away from competing for the big ten with the right coach.
  7. You guys can stop entertaining Bohl. I can’t think of 5 worse coaches in the FBS.
  8. If Chadwell gets hired there’s a window for Moglia to make his presence felt around the state and run for Congress. LOL My take on Chadwell is that I don’t want him anywhere near us until he spends some time in the P5. Go look at the list of schools he’s coached at. Guy has never been exposed to an actual organization.
  9. Kinda proves my earlier point that he hung his hat on the defensive talent he inherited. I'd hardly call it revisionist history to say blowouts killed him. Here's some scores from the Pelini years after leaving the Big 12. This would account for three years of Pelini recruits filling out the roster: (8) Nebraska @ (7) Wisconsin: 17-48 L (13) Nebraska v (9) Michigan State: 24-3 W (19) Nebraska @ (12) Penn State: 17-14 W (17) Nebraska @ (20) Michigan: 17-45 L (21) Nebraska v (10) South Carolina: 13-30 L (21) Nebraska v (12) Ohio State: 38-63 L Nebraska v (20) Michigan: 23-9 W (14) Nebraska v Wisconsin: 31-70 L - Conf. Championship Game (23) Nebraska v (6) Georgia: 31-45 L (23) Nebraska v (16) UCLA: 21-41 L Nebraska v (14) Mich State: 28-41 L Nebraska v (23) Georgia: 24-19 W (19) Nebraska v (10) Mich State: 22-27 L (11) Nebraska v (22) Wisconsin: 24-59 L This is the entire library of Pelini's games v ranked opponents plus one conference championship game appearance. Awful stuff. I completely agree that he had a terrible AD. If he had Trev I think it would have been a bit different but his scheme got absolutely exposed time and time again and he never adjusted. The exact same results took place at LSU when they brought him in.
  10. Personally I'm sick of our coach being our identity. Obviously people will connect a coach and program together in conversation but Frost has been our identity. Made an earlier post about it. We haven't made a single headline outside of maybe Cam Jurgens or Adrian briefly, success in the last five years that hasn't been Scott being Scott. Look at Wisconsin - they've been the same program since Alvarez got it humming and they've sustained success through four or five coaches. RBU, tough defense, OL factory, Camp Randall, etc. Even when Osborne was coaching he wasn't THE identity of Nebraska football. Scheme, positional strength, and players were.
  11. Bo was extremely frustrating to deal with. You'd win every single game that didn't matter with a B+ grade on the report card and lose every game that did by 20+ points. Sure, we'd love to have those easy wins now but at the time it made sense. The 2009-10 defenses that he hung his hat on had some absolutely monster talent and his staffs were meh recruiters. As his guys came in the holes started to get worse and worse. There was also a really toxic culture he and everyone else in the administration contributed to that's been flushed out since, thankfully. He hasn't accomplished anything since for a reason.
  12. Yo, love Schiano but I see Kirby leaving Georgia before Schiano leaves Rutgers. The only better fit for Rutgers is James Gandolfini. As for Narduzzi, this year has really turned me off on him. He seems to be extremely loyal to a single defensive scheme to his detriment and talks way too much trash in the media for a middling coach. Gives me a lot of flashbacks to Bo that I don't wanna relive. It wouldn't shock me in the slightest to see him in the big ten soon, though.
  13. There's like six threads for this already edit - Thanks for merging these
  14. Slightly disagree with you. Pressure is low and I think the expectations here are really fairly measured. Like just about anywhere, we expect you to be competitive but if we can manage a bowl game in the near-term I think everyone will be satiated to where we can provide any coach a decent leash. Hard to say that about most other programs. We've also got better periphery than most places. Facilities, AD, NIL, are all on par or better than the rest of the big ten west and big 12 schools in our radius until you hit Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah, or Arkansas. This is a great opportunity for almost any coach unless you're already in a great spot with those things and have a better spigot of talent.
  15. Past stoops I think this is short selling the program's desirability bit there isn't a bad coach on this list. I love Vigen and think he's next up. Would love to see someone with P5 experience but he's a fantastic coach. Harsin-lite. Patterson might be a little dated for the NIL era (proof is there) but maybe he's learned at Texas.
  16. If we hire Jamey Chadwell it would be like stepping on a rake, getting hit in the face, turning around, stepping on a rake, and getting hit in the face. The only difference this time is that the rake didn't go to Nebraska.
  17. I'm pretty optimistic that he's interested, and even if he's not I think that this will be a far more organized search than SP/Callahan. Reasons why: 1. I don't put a ton of stock in rumors but there's a lot of smoke around Campbell. He's turned down bigger jobs but I believe it was for Ohio State/Michigan. Both of those seats are as solid as they've been in the last five years. Even if Day leaves for the NFL Fickell wins that job over Matt. He's kind of in a piss or get off the pot situation and his program will be at a huge disadvantage the longer he waits. 2. The program is in the best shape it's been in for a long, long time which is the national perception, too if you're in the know. Finances are great, boosters and donors are on the same page with the AD, and expectations are relatively low. Specific to football, there is talent on the roster and it's a really attractive portal destination. Outside the top 5 or so programs in the country, NIL/Facilities/Conference/NFL Potential are all next to them. 3. When Bo and Frank were fired, there was a lot of discombobulation between the AD and boosters and players. It's pretty well understood that it's behind us so it's a good situtation for anyone new. Shoot, Trev is letting Mickey make systemic changes. That speaks volumes.
  18. I am so, so thankful Frost is gone and I'm glad identity has been a theme since it's happened. Frost has been our identity. I spend most of my time around ISU, Iowa, or Minnesota fans and when nebraska comes up, everyone either mentions Frost/Adrian by name or describes them. I don't blame them, it's pretty wildass that the dude cannot win a one score game to save his life, just as it was that Adrian blew a lot of games for us late. When you're consistent, it becomes your identity. This is an amazing opportunity for us to be Nebraska. Not Frost, not Adrian, Nebraska. I totally understand firing him before dropping the buyout because the Oklahoma game this weekend, which is probably going to get the largest audience we'll see all year, looks one of two ways: - Frost coaches. Like last year, the broadcast talks about a coach on the hot seat who says dumb things and has mismanaged his alma mater. He keeps the game close and nebraska loses by a score. Everyone tweets and jokes are made. Identity is reinforced. - New cool interim coach gives the team something to play for. Maybe it's close, maybe not, but there's something to discuss that isn't Scott. Even if you lose close, it was a good effort by a first-time head coach rallying the team. People root for a team like that. Indiana, Purdue, and Northwestern don't typically get big noon kickoff, and with the state of the program it's hard to imagine we get many more opportunities to establish brand like this unless there's improvement. I'm stoked to see what our identity is on Saturday win or lose, and going forward.
  19. Not sure how you can look at Bielema's record (esp. at Arkansas) and say Campbell is subpar. I like Bielema but it's still pretty soon to judge him at Illinois. Campbell is four years ahead of him in a best case scenario for Bert. No amount of money will bring Urban here. Cold take me if you want. Stoops has a lifetime contract at UK. Every time he wins 7 games he gets an auto-extension. Kentucky will match whatever we offer to keep him and he's not jeopardizing that for a job where the ceiling is ostensibly the same (win 10 games and lose to OSU/Georgia/Alabama in the playoff semis) except for Iowa, which he has said on the record that its the only job he would leave for. Also, if Frost could win 9 games in the big 12 he would have gone 6-6 at least once here. There might be a slight step up in competition but its not that drastic. Buddy can't even beat Georgia Southern.
  20. Don't understand the hate for campbell unless your expectation is a national championship. Unless Urban Meyer walks through the door we're not winning one either, so the focus should be development, consistency, and culture. Campbell did it at Toledo and replicated it at ISU. I also don't understand how you all forgot how piss poor of a program Iowa State is. Iowa State: - Has never had a 10-win season - Had never won a NY6 bowl (until campbell) - Has not had a first round draft pick since 1973 (Real shot last year with Breece and this year with Will McDonald) In a 12-team playoff era you don't need a roster full of 5-stars to get a berth. Matt Campbell would have taken Iowa State, one of four REAL poverty programs (Wash State, Oregon State, Wake Forest, ISU) to the playoff in this format. Since the invention of the car, ISU's winningest coach was Earl Bruce at .529. Matt Campbell is .560 in twice as many games and has won a fiesta bowl. The fact is that there will not be a better candidate interested than Matt Campbell. Aranda, Urban, etc are not coming.
  21. Makes a note that he's excluding Urban to keep it real, but then adds four guys with contract buyouts over $25mill who would never leave their schools. LOL
  22. 1. Urban 2. Aranda 3. Mark Stoops 4. Sam Pittman 5. Luke Fickell not that we’d ever have a chance with a single one of them
  23. I like Gus Might be dumb football-guy stuff but I'd like to hire someone who's won in cold weather. That's why I included Chryst. I think they make a move as soon as they catch wind Leonhard is interviewing.
  24. I mean it depends. Is he beating Notre Dame or Holy Cross
