  1. Okay, fine. But again, if you want to use that argument, you pretty much have to eliminate everyone who has turned around smaller programs and have just a year or two of success on their resume. So...Aranda, Klieman, Leipold, and MJ are just a few of the most talked about names. Who does that leave you with?
  2. This is true, but he did it at Temple too. Plus, if you're going to use that argument against Rhule, then you have to use it against Aranda too (not you specifically, but people clamoring for Aranda).
  3. He had back-to-back 10 win seasons at Temple and had multiple opportunities to move up to a P5 job, so he did. He then did a miraculous job of turning around a horrible situation at Baylor leading them to an 11 win season by year 3 and he was one of the hottest names in coaching and had an opportunity to move up to the NFL, so he did. Please explain how that makes him a "jumper that folds like a deck of cards when things get hard"?
  4. Those guys don't have any more insight or info than we do. Just guessing at likelihood...just like all of the rest of us.
  5. The ranked team thing is valid. But it's also pretty easy to argue Aranda is succeeding (one good year) on what Rhule built. And his body of work is tiny compared to Rhule's. Aranda hasn't beat a ranked team this year. If you compare their resume's, it's really not even close. Plus, Rhule has spent a large portion of his football career in B1G country...played at Penn State and coached for 14 years. Aranda spent 3 years in the B1G, then nowhere near it. Some rumors that Auburn wants James Franklin, so I guess if he moves on, Rhule is probably a lock for Penn State.
  6. Sounds like it. My first concern with him was that he might not get fired from Carolina until after the NFL regular season, in which case he wouldn't be available until around January 9th. That would leave a lot of wasted time given our current situation. But, if he does get let go early, he needs a really hard look. My next concern with him is that he might not necessarily choose us. I do think Nebraska will likely be the best job available, but the way Rhule went through the last round of college hiring makes me think he might be a bit of a wildcard when it comes to that. He openly turned down Oregon when he went to Baylor, and Oregon was in MUCH better shape than Baylor. He just said Baylor felt like a better fit for him and his family. I don't know what all was offered at either school as it wasn't public, so maybe Baylor offered a lot more in the way of money, support, control, etc (can't imagine Baylor's offer was that much better financially than Oregon's). Anyway, that always seemed like a real head scratcher. If we're the Oregon this time around, he may choose a different direction, just based on the fact that he's done it once before. Rhule would be an exceptional hire if we could get him. If ya'll think Nebraska is a dumpster fire right now, what he walked into at Baylor was an entire burning city comparatively. What he was able to do by year 3 there given Baylor's situation was nothing short of a miracle. There's not a fan among us who wouldn't love to have these kinds of results 3 years from now...
  7. Asked and answered. There are 2 names on the list. But, alas, we’ve been informed by people who don’t want them, that neither is ever happening because apparently they all know something nobody else knows.
  8. You think Frost is getting a P5 head coaching job next year? Because Rhule likely is.
  9. At this point, Rhule’s actually doing himself a favor to keep losing. He’s likely done regardless, barring some kind of miracle. He’s going back to college from here. And his pool for college gigs gets smaller if teams have to wait until after Jan 8 to hire him. It benefits him to get fired early.
  10. Have we officially written off Fickell? Because all I see is just a bunch of “we’re not getting Fickell” internet chatter. Seems like he’d be a no-brainer top 5 for most lists.
  11. Aranda’s not even the best possible Baylor candidate. Matt Rhule has a MUCH better resume than Aranda and it’s not even close.
  12. Sorry, but I don’t know what just makes you assume that a first time head coach at a losing program located in Nebraska with almost zero name recognition is just going to automatically be some kind of elite national top 15 recruiter. Look, I know MJ is familiar and comfortable and likable to a lot of Nebraskans and I know he’s done pretty well recruiting his territory, and it’s great that he’s got us a couple wins and all, but that is just such a far, far cry from elite national top 15 recruiting head coach.
  13. Cross-posting from rumor thread... Mullen was a pretty hot name when he went to Florida a few years ago. But, I was never really sure why. He was averaging 7ish wins a season at Miss St, which I guess was punching above their weight. But, he really only had one good year there and that was with Dak Prescott as their quarterback IIRC. I think Florida got a little blinded by history and gave him a little more credit as they considered him one of their own...worked for Urban in their glory days. Probably seemed like a no-brainer for them somewhat like Frost for us. And he flamed out equally as fast at Florida as Frost did for us. Plus I think Florida's biggest problem with him was his poor recruiting. And if you can't recruit at Florida, I'd hate to see what that looked like at Nebraska. He's a hard pass from me dawg.
  14. I will admit, after watching the TCU - Kansas game on Saturday, Leipold's stock went up with me. They lost, but they looked like a very well coached, fundamentally sound football team who went toe-to-toe with TCU about as well or better than anyone this year. I don't want him and I don't think he's our answer, but I wouldn't hate it and automatically write us off if we ended up with him. I think he ends up at Wisconsin, but who knows.
  15. Oh, so you’re just guessing like all the rest of us are doing with all of this stuff? You stated it as fact with a lot of conviction, so I thought maybe you knew something none of the rest of us knew. Hope you're wrong.
  16. Agree with your point. And to take it a step further, Louisiana borders Texas and Texas is THEE top talent-producing state. Yet Aranada has averaged #39 recruiting ranking at Baylor since he got there. Not seeing how moving him to Nebraska will improve that at all.
  17. Not exactly a fair comparison given your location. Just curious what makes you so sure of this?
  18. I mean, it's seemed to work okay for Alabama and Ohio State. Plus, I don't think you can really compare Urban's 3 national championships at 2 different programs being worth $15M a year to Jimbo's 1 national championship with a bunch of other meh years being worth $9M and a $90M buyout.
  19. Not a man crush at all. He's not even my first choice. Simply pointing out that he should be considered as a strong candidate based on his performance and what he could offer Nebraska football. People around here dismissing him out of hand because they don't like how he dresses or the kind of music he listens to or his flashiness or whatever and trying to manufacture dirt on him to justify it is what's cringy. And this is more than cringy...
  20. Right? I mean he can't carry that picture of his wife in a bikini from 10 years ago around with him everywhere he goes.
  21. Meyer is Meyer and has been discussed ad nauseam.
  22. Show me on the doll where Deion Sanders touched some of you.
  23. Hahaha if you're using 1310 The Ticket, who's built pretty much their entire identity on clowning on the Cowboys, having mentioned that Deion probably frequented the White House over 25 years ago, as your proof that Deion is into hookers and blow in 2022 so Nebraska shouldn't touch him, you are REALLY reaching. Hell, half the team probably frequented the White House back in those days.
  24. Of the jobs I see realistically available, I think it's the best fit for him. I think if he does give it another go, he wants/needs it to be at a blue blood. That's a somewhat subjective list, but Auburn isn't on it in most people's minds. Plus, I just don't see him as the type that would take a gig coaching in the shadow of the GOAT in his own state. I think the only teams he's even somewhat been realistically connected to since Ohio State were USC and Texas (blue bloods). And I think he knows coaching at Nebraska would be a great place to rebuild his image. Plus, he knows the Big 10 and knows he can navigate that landscape. If you listened to him during Oklahoma week, he was pandering to us so much, he almost sounded like he was already interviewing for the job in the court of public opinion. Does that mean he's the best fit for us? Not sure, but I do think the VAST majority of fans will be willing to pretty easily forget all his sleaziness pretty quickly with the hope of what he can do for Nebraska football if he's hired. Then, when he lands his first top recruiting class, then starts winning fairly quickly, all will be completely forgotten. People's memories tend to be very short with these types of things, especially when winning starts to erase their memories. Of course, this is all assuming he actually wants to coach again, which I'm not so sure about.
