  1. You're missing a pretty obvious D) someone who's doing well as a head coach at a lower tier who wants to take the next step. I mean, that's probably like 75% of coaching changes.
  2. Why? This ^ I just don't get all the love for Aranda. I mean, he might be okay I guess. But some of y'all are acting like he's the second coming, with literally nothing to base that on.
  3. Yes, huge difference. Briles is second only to Sandusky in terms of sleaziness. We're talking scum of the earth s#!t. Not only tolerated, but enabled an entire culture of multiple players raping women for years at Baylor. Briles was so toxic after that mess that he couldn't get a job as a janitor for any program in the country. Had a stint in Italy where they didn't know his history. A CFL team tried to hire him and the public backlash was so bad he was fired before he even started. He finally landed at a small east Texas high school town that is pretty much 100% Baptist where their mentality was that they should forgive all of his sins to win football games. Then I think he got caught cheating there too and was eventually forced to resign. That dude is beyond sleazy. Urban's just a little sleazy comparatively.
  4. Shame if true. Deion Sanders out-recruited both of them last year... #55 - Jackson State #59 - Iowa State #63 - Kansas
  5. They did do a hell of a job at keeping the Lincoln Riley thing under wraps. Pretty much announced officially the same day as the leaks started IIRC. There were some minor rumblings throughout the season that Riley wasn't happy at OU, but I don't think anyone saw the USC thing coming.
  6. I've always kind of felt like search firms are more to provide a layer of cover and act as the school's agent more than actually identifying candidates. Allows active coaches to say things like "I've never been contacted by the University of Nebraska" and allows the firm to put out initial feelers without anyone knowing who it's for. Trev doesn't pick up the phone and call the coach directly and say, "Hey, you interested in the Nebraska job?" He makes that call the the search firm, who makes that call to the agent, who makes that call to the coach. It's like having a buyer's agent and a seller's agent in real estate. You may find the house you want yourself, then you let the agents hammer out the details for you. They're just another go-between to keep things cleaner.
  7. I just can't trust anything posted by someone with a Baylor Bear avatar. Sorry, @M.A....if that's even your real name.
  8. I vote C - Special Teams Minded Coach Actually, I don't care. Just give me the best candidate.
  9. My biggest issue with Mickey is his lack of experience. I think it's funny that a lot of guys on here think this candidate and that candidate don't have enough experience as a head coach at whatever level. Yet, MJ makes sense to them. He made sense to get the interim nod I guess. But he's never even been a coordinator. I do think Deion would keep Mickey on staff though.
  10. I think it's more like doing the shots with the hot girl at the bar, taking her home, waking up feeling like a$$, then spending the next few months worried about having knocked her up. If she ends up not being pregnant, then it was a hell of a night and totally worth it. If she does pop positive, well...
  11. Ah, gotcha. I'm a newb and still figuring things out around here. My bad. Yeah, all coaching change discussions in one thread for pretty much the only thing we'll have to talk about for the next 2+ months seems like a lot. I'm all for not starting a new thread for every random thought. But I think each (legitimate) candidate could at least have their own thread. But, yeah not my call either.
  12. Vanished. I know the initial post was meant as a joke, but there was a lot of good discussion in there.
  13. He has already interviewed for three D1 jobs so he doesn’t appear to be waiting for anything other than a better opportunity.
  14. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. No way is ASU a better job than Nebraska.
  15. Yeah, I might concede Auburn. Definitely a better geographical/cultural fit for Deion. I just think having to go head-to-head with Alabama & Georgia is a losing proposition right from the jump.
  16. When did I ever say we were the best job on the market just because of our facilities? Of course there's more to it than that. And, since this is the Deion thread...have you ever been to Jackson, MS? The whole town looks like an episode of The First 48. No we're not. And I've been around a few. We're right in line with other blue bloods and better than some.
  17. There's not an available job or likely to be available job this year better than Nebraska. And that's not just me being a homer. Last year was a bad year to be hiring. This year does not appear to be stacking up that way at all.
  18. That's why I prefer "back up the brinks trucks"...it's cleaner.
  19. Outside of Lincoln Riley, Luke Fickell, and maybe Jeff Traylor...meh.
  20. Yep, outside of Urban, the rest of the realistic list is just hopeful prospect up-and-comers. I don't see Deion as much less of an up-and-comer prospect than anyone else on the list. Sure, his head coaching experience is at a slightly lower level, but not by much. Let's not act like Iowa State, Kansas and the like are some college football juggernauts compared to Jackson State. They all suck. But none of those guys is Deion effin Sanders. And Deion is recruiting at a much higher level for Jackson State than most/all of the others. Look at last year's national recruiting rankings (per 247Sports)... #55 Jackson State #59 Iowa State #63 Kansas
  21. Sark is in year 2 and just signed the best quarterback recruit in like the history of ever. Freeman is in year one. Short of either of them having some sort of off the field scandal or getting hired away by a better program (which also doesn't exist), Sark and Freeman aren't going anywhere this year. Period. West coast like who? UCLA which isn't even the best program in town, let alone the state of Californa or the west coast. Oregon? Lanning is in year one, so see above. Washington? DeBoer is in year one and looks to be doing just fine. So, again, name a better program even remotely likely to have an opening.
  22. In all seriousness, Deion has an ability to turn the flash on and off masterfully when needed. He's kind of like Drake, which is part of what makes Drake so ridiculously successful. Dude can thug it up with every rapper from the hood and turn around and sit in a meeting with old white jewish label execs seamlessly. Deion can do that too, but most of what the public sees (or wants to see) is just the former. He's also a man of strong faith and sells all the off the field things parents want to hear. Moms love him.
