  1. I appreciate Dan Hawkin's fervor, but I have to say I'm surprised he made thse comments. They seem rather unbecoming of a coach...okay, so saying "future All American" is nothing unusual, and neither is "helping us win a national championship" (well, maybe it is for the Buffs coming off a 2-10 season, that may be a tad premature, unless the kid is planning on staying a decade...) But then where does he go off on charting the kid's future as getting drafted as the Broncos...and then comparing him to John Elway? WTF? Those sound like a fan's wishful comments, not something a Coach says to the press about one of his guys. And...if I'm not mistaken, most OTs don't pan out to be all-pro QBs in the NFL. Could be wrong. I mean, hey, it's division I football!
  2. From losing to D-IAA to manhandling the conference champs and shooting for BCS? Come on! At least be realistic.

    JoePa

Taking out the Trash... Man...I have a lot of respect for JoePa. I also think this is an excellent commentary on the state of student athletics in general.
  4. We were hoping right away (2004). That may have been a tad naive. This past year began with so much optimism, and ended with a letdown of sorts (I still weep when I think of the Texas game, and how close the season was to truly extraordinary...) So from Yahoo! sports..."The Long road back": I think that's pretty a fair assessment. A lot of us are saying this is a critical year in the rebuilding process - but what year *don't* we say that? What year do we say, before the season begins, "Oh, this year is ... eh, whatever. Just another year." I think we've still got a ton of question marks heading into the season, but with a lot of potential to do well...if we make a shot for the title though, I'd be surprised (pleasantly). The offense (unfortunately) faces questions with the QB competition, Purify's boneheaded incident, and RB injuries...as well as a line that I'd say can only be called adequate. And while I expect the D-line to do well this year, and the secondary to do better, I really don't think we'll have the kind of old-school Blackshirt dominance to avoid getting burned at times this season. Next year - unless Ganz beats out Keller for the job, in which case...well, let's not think about it unless it happens - we're going to be starting a new QB, whether it's Ganz, Witt, Lee, or Gabbert. A lot of potential and good stories there, but the QB position will have question marks swirling next year. I'm not sure how rookie O-line usually factor in, but while I only see improvement up ahead, I think we're being more optimistic than realistic when we say "THIS is the year we're going to jump back in the mix...no, really!!" Of course a lot of it hinges on signature wins IMO. If we pull off USC, then our season will be rolling as long as we remain consistent. If we struggle at Wake and lose to USC, then I forsee some tough mid-season losses and ending up with a similar record as last year. I feel that we're on the right track, but don't be shocked if we don't see the top 10 until 2009 or 2010. Also a question on Sam Keller: Link: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=Ap...s&type=lgns
  5. Yes, Moore was drafted as an OLB prospect. 49ers fans are excited about him. I also heard the Patriots were targeting Bradley in the 4th and were let down when the Eagles picked him up two spots ahead.
  6. 4th down, 5th down...same thing right guys?
  7. Not sure how much clock was left, but if it was that close to being in danger of running out on that play, Wiggins would have no way of telling if it was going to run out anyways or not. What if he lets it drop only to find an expired clock? No, I think you have to do everything you can to make that play.
  8. Let's not resort to name-calling. If he saw the ball, he probably would try desperately to tip it up somehow and keep it alive, because that's what you're supposed to do - right? What, was he just going to let it drop? Maybe it wasn't intentional to try to kick it, but he probably made as good a play for the ball as he could; either that or he didn't see it at all, which would make it *very* lucky. Either way, does it matter?
  9. Why? Because it was luck? Sorry if I missed something there.
  10. There's a reason most of us aren't Husker football players. And you know, it's what every Husker QB in recent history prior to that would have done. You think Lord, Crouch, Frost, or Frazier would have just walked out of bounds? I have respect for Joe Dailey, but that was poor decision-making on his part. You don't give up and expect your fans to sing your praises...
  11. Awesome, I was surprised. Almost expected him to fall out of the 2nd round...man...Husker RBs to Green Bay again Who do they have now? Morency? We'll be seeing a lot of BJax next year...

  13. http://nfl.com/draft/story/10139231 In a list of 10 players who impressed him most in interviews, Pat Kirwin includes BJax and Stewart Bradley:
  14. No, we'd pretty much need to win the Big 12 to get a BCS bowl. It's possible, but we've done nothing to prove yet that we're going to beat Oklahoma and Texas. I hope for the best, but as it stands, the odds are stacked against us Doesn't make everyone else ignorant about college football. But it does give us motivation to go out and defeat the odds.
  15. So, in this case, it's nothing. And if ESPN has this going for headlines, then yes, it's overreaction. The initial reporting obviously gave us very little information to work with, so if this report is true, then it doesn't seem like a big deal. Naturally, any reporting in the news media will try to hype it up and make it seem more major than it actually is. So I'm glad that's not the case. All this said, though, I think it's strange how violently we all jumped to defend him and make excuses for him *before* anything, really, was known. Okay, so it wasn't like he was accused for raping anyone, and it wasn't like you or I wouldn't react this way...but is that even relevant? If the initial reports had been true to the word, that doesn't make it better. IMO, it's downright childish of us to be automatically saying things like "the other driver was a tramp" or "the police should cite her, not Keller" or "the courts would say this is a waste of time." Assault charges are *never* a waste of a time. It's a serious matter. If it's not true, it'll all come out in the wash, and everything will be fine...but whether or not it's true is not for us to decide, or for us to argue over. If the story were true as trumped, then it's wrong no matter who does it. Seriously...if this were Josh Freeman, the reaction on this board wouldn't be, "Well hell, if that were me..." you know?
  16. Facebook auto-poke script.
  17. Oh, I missed that...what has he been saying, exactly? Ya know...that's kind of true. Some fantastic players are asses in real life (not saying Keller is one of them)...where do you draw the line? I think this is, on the whole, a minor thing compared to Pacman Jones (extreme example) and some of the other characters in the NFL today. It's small enough not to jump to any conclusions, even though it is a little disturbing - I guess we can only wait and see. Even though we know he's going to get off But see, we're just making excuses for him. That doesn't make it any better or worse, what he did is what he did. I wonder if we would make these excuses if he was just some random student with no football connections. The e-bay link is awesome, by the way...^__^
  18. I must respectfully disagree. Yes, anyone would be pissed, and yes, it was just a cup...but it's just plain despicable behavior to respond by yelling profanities and throwing *anything*. You might consider that whoever took his parking spot was not necessarily some entrepeneuring jackass who thought, "Hey, there's that guy waiting for this spot. Let me just go and steal it from him." He may have been, or it may have been a misunderstanding - we don't know. That part isn't all that important. What's upsetting is that a guy as high-profile as Sam reacted the way he did. You don't respond to rudeness by descending to their level, and you keep your composure in check. For someone who's supposedly destined to lead us on the road to glory in '07, that was low-class behavior unbecoming of a leader. Don't get me wrong - I'm reserving judgment on Keller until I see him play and what he does for us on the team, and I'd love to see things work out on both ends. But when something like this happens, we've got to acknowledge it's wrong. No point defending what amounts to basically indefensible behavior for a guy who wants to be the pride of cornhusker nation. I like the guy, have high hopes for him, but I'm not happy with this bit of news. Besides, we're talking about a Keller throw Very likely it tore a hole through the midsection of the car and ground to a stop sixty yards later.
  19. Wait a sec, what happened to Brian Hildebrand? Remember him? The former Elite 11 guy? Seems weird that he's suddenly dropped off the map.

  22. Of course. We should not have needed to make this comeback. But it's incredibly awesome how we did. I'm still disconcerted by how we fell apart, though. Still, this game inspires so much faith in Zac Taylor and our offense.
  23. This game is too exciting for me to handle. Oh god. We rock.
