  1. So long as he keeps the team moving in the right direction and learns from his mistakes. As was stated, he is new to being the head coach. People forget that coaches learn along with their teams as the years go by. He makes far more good decisions than bad ones. It's just people flip about the bad ones and forget the good ones. He has shown a tendency make poor, risky calls in clutch situations this year. I'm sure that's something he'll be noticing and trying to correct as he learns.
  2. And he's made just as many good decisions that have turned out in our favor. Of course, it's hard to remember those since it's much easier to whine and cry.
  3. A weak defensive coordinator that held Auburn to one real field goal, while their two touchdowns started on the 10 and 20 yard lines... Yeah, the defense really sucked it up this game, let's blame them too.
  4. He knows you have to win the big games. He talks about it all the time. He knows he'll have to make adjustments to win those games. He's not an idiot, despite what the knee-jerk reaction people seem to think. Once again, many people expect him to be flawless, which is just ridiculous.
  5. I'm sure that goal was established before everyone realized mid-season that the Big XII North was absolute crap.
  6. He is the coach we need to take us back to the national title contender level. I don't know if he's the coach to actually win us a national title, but he will get us back in contention. He's done a great job at installing the new offense and is getting us good quality recruits. There's room for debate on whether or not he will just be a program rebuilder/transition coach or a long term national title coach. He's going to learn like all other coaches do as they continue with their coaching careers. People expect him to be flawless, which is seriously unfair.
  7. You might have a different outcome. It's hard to say what would have happened for sure, so I don't ever play that game. The interception and fake punt definitely hurt us, though. Anyone who watched the game (and isn't currently going into orbit like a mental patient) should be able to say the game could have easily gone either way. While a win would have been awesome, and I think the team was capable of it, playing Auburn that well is still a good end to our 3rd season under this system.
  8. Not to mention we played with Auburn, who is a good team. We played just as well, if not a little better, in a game that could have gone either way. That's still a good accomplishment.
  9. Some of these people definitely need to take their meds before they hurt themselves. Callahan has definitely shown some questionable decisions, though. That doesn't mean he should be fired, he just needs to examine his own decisions and learn from his mistakes.
  10. It was still a good season and a good game. Unfortunately some questionable play calling hurt us, but ah well. Now we have to deal with the people that go crazy over the fact that Nebraska isn't a national contender after 3 years under a new system. Oh joy.
  11. Some people will just find any little thing to whine about it, is all. Stack that on top of a lack of football knowledge and it just gets amusing.
  12. I also agree with Redman in that those situations are totally different. They did not try to institute the sweeping changes in football style and culture that Callahan is trying to do.
  13. Sorry, but anecdotal evidence doesn't fly with me. Sure, you can find great success stories out of all the cases out there, where someone came in and turned the program around within a few years. It's not the norm and to expect that of every coach that comes in is, quite simply, idiotic.
  14. Callahan's done a great job with what he was given (which wasn't much, despite what people that only look at records think). You can usually expect 4-5 years until you really start to see the fruits of your labor with such a major change in thinking with a college football team. He's not a perfect coach and it's obvious he's still trying to get some things figured out. You don't rebuild a program with huge leaps and bounds, you do it in small steps. You make some progress each season, impress a few more higher caliber recruits than last year, make some more progress next season, etc. A national title contender after 3 years? rofl...anyone that truly thought so was completely delusional. It'll still be a few more years before the program is solidly back on its feet and any realistic talk of a national title shot can be anything but a dream. Callahan is pretty much right on schedule for where he should be.
  15. I've made a post about this in another thread. There are plenty of teams in this conference that are dangerous this year and play tough. Nobody is trying to claim the Big XII is the strongest conference ever. This notion that the Big East is some kind of pansy conference is another hilarious thing...that conference has plenty of good teams. I don't think you people are watching the same football season I have been.
  16. It's hilarious how many people think a conference is weak just because there isn't an elite team that has a real shot at the national title.
  17. Weakest Big XII ever? roflmao...please... This conference is not weak just because there is no elite team that is a national title contender. How many years was it Nebraska and Oklahoma ONLY that were any good, and nearly every other team in the conference was complete crap? You think having a couple elite teams and the rest crap teams makes for a good conference?? The Big XII is full of teams that are dangerous and on their way up. Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas (hard to say if they're really on their way up, but they are consistently dangerous), Kansas, Kstate, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Missouri, Oklahoma State, etc. All of these teams have won some big games and proven they can play with almost anyone they come across, even if their level of play isn't consistently that high. They are decent teams and play tough games. The Big XII weak? Good lord... You must not be watching the same college football season I have been. No elite, national title teams does not make for a weak conference.
  18. Yep, it's hard to argue with putting your team into a good position to win the conference championship in your third year, especially considering how drastic the change was and how bad that first season went.
  19. Our defense played well. Our offense didn't play so great, but I think a good amount of credit needs to go to the OU defense. It's very rare for offenses to just fall apart...often it comes from a defense playing the right kind of game to disrupt that offense and prevent them from getting into any kind of rhythm. And that's exactly what happened tonight. Of course an offense that plays well will find ways to overcome that, which ours didn't. It was still nice to see our D play tough for the whole game.
  20. I agree, NU and OU will be two of the top teams, though I am not going to count Texas out. Colt is a good QB and will only get better and better, no matter sick everyone is of hearing about him. What was funny about the "WCO won't work in college" people is that the WCO is built totally around being adaptable. You can do mostly run, you can do most pass, you can do a balance, etc. So from a pure fundamentals aspect, it's perfect. That only leaves how complex it is and asking college students to learn it. Well as far as intelligence goes, I can promise you NFL players are not any smarter than when they were in college, so that's not a problem. That leaves the amount of time college students have to learn such things and well...we'd be lying to ourselves if we didn't admit that when you're on a I-A football scholarship, you find the time to learn what you have to for the team.
  21. The funny thing is, it's hard to argue with Hart since he has something like 1 fumble in 600+ carries... I mean, yikes.
  22. Wilson's fumble was bad. He definitely should have had two hands on that ball. When you get into traffic like that and start getting stood up, that's when the other team will have the best chance of stripping it out. You HAVE to wrap both arms around it then. I promise you he got a talkin' to about that one. I'm trying to remember the other one, but I think it was Jackson with the ball in his left arm, right? If I remember correctly, he had the ball too far out away from his body, so his arm/the ball got clipped by a shoulder pad or helmet on the tackle. He needed to have it more into his body there at the very least. I've seen an improvement with the two hands on the ball, though. It appears to be something they're working on, but it's a slow process because it has to become instinct and that doesn't happen overnight.
  23. So if these "trick" plays are bad because they are intended to fool the other team, counter runs are bad too, right? I mean, you start your runner one direction, then he suddenly changes direction and gets handed the ball, catching the defense moving the wrong way. Nobody should ever use that again, it's a tricky play! And the pump fake. Obviously a very nasty trick play. You fake like you're going to throw the ball, and then you don't! omgwtfbbq!! And then we have the infamous reverse, not to mention the end around. They should be banned and all teams using them should be sanctioned!! What about the play action pass! It's evil and shameful!! A trick play designed to make the defense you're going to run, omg! Burn anyone that uses it! I think you get my point.
  24. We had to use "trick" plays to beat Colorado? Please... That's so absurd I'm just going to assume you didn't bother to watch the game and are talking out of your...well, you know. As for keeping it interesting, that applies to the fans as well. I know I will never forget the Taylor "walk off" play. That was unreal.
