I like the fact that recovery, nutrition, and focus on the applicable energy systems for football will be stressed.

Any idiot can make strength and conditioning "hard".  Players puking in buckets is hardly the mark of excellence.

    Preach.

I heard that a few guys got rhabdo here recently. This is not good, gentlemen. Not good at all.

I've asked support to dig into this a bit. Just want to make sure there isn't something bigger going on with the data or if the figures were just miscalculated the first time..

Support says they cant' see anything overtly wrong with the configuration or data. The bug that was recently fixed could have caused days to be miscalculated, so I guess  we'll chalk it up to that @knapplc

The Leaderboard appears to be back, but the numbers are off a bit.  I had won 544 days as of 1/2/18 and now it's showing 537.  Mav had won 143 days and now it's showing 137.

No biggie, since that's just a fun little oddity from the site anyway.  Just weird that it calculates differently each time it goes through the database.

I'm having this happen fairly frequently now.

It doesn't do anything when you click into the box?

For the issues that happen when clicking on stuff like this (where the board should do something without re-loading the page), it will be helpful to try to reproduce with the developer console open. for most browsers, pressing F12 will bring this up. Otherwise it's in the menu system somewhere.

Any errors that are logged in the console directly after reproducing the problem could help support in figuring it out.

If you go to the Past Leaders tab, it used to show 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the last week and let you go to the Next Page to see previous results.  Now it only shows yesterday's results.

My guess is something gakked part-way through the update and some process needs to be re-run to rebuild the history.

Maybe, but that would be kinda of odd to me. If it was data that needed to be regenerated, the update process would have done that or I'd think there would be threads on IPB's support forums about it. The upgrade did not present any sort of error at all, just that everything worked ok.

Did we customize the leaderboard at all? There is no real configuration for the leaderboard either with regard to history. It's just either on or off essentially.

Do people really use the leaderboard? It seem sort of an odd thing to have, but maybe i'm just too old school :)

I'll open a case with invision on it.

  6. I really have no idea what this leaderboard looked like before, so I'm not much help here.  You can change the date you want to see in the upper right part of the interface. Maybe that changed?

I will say that looking at the release notes, nothing appreciable has changed functionality wise.  There are no overt errors anywhere in the system that i can see.

For instance, when I clicked on the +1 for your post here, it popped up with a green box with a "0" instead of a "1" like it's supposed to.

Now, when I refreshed the page, the "1" showed up.  Again, it's little and it's really no big deal.  It's just odd.

Cool. I might open a ticket with the board software company to see if it's a known issue.

It works fine now; strange, since I didn't change anything. Possibly something to do with the board's software?

No. Nothing has changed with regard to the twitter media tag. If you find that it's happening again, open your developer tools in your browser (usually F12 key on a PC) and go to the console to look for errors.

If your browser failed to load the required javascript from twitter.com, that would cause this to happen. In that case, there is nothing the board can do to help. In knaps case, a anti-tracking option in the browser or add-on was causing this. If it's transient, who knows..

This is a minor issue.  But, when you click on the +1 button, it appears that your +1 never is added.  If you refresh the page, it will show that it is there.  Just a strange glitch with that button.

I can't seem to reproduce this. What browser are you using?

It has to do with tracking protection. I've got it turned on, and that blocks the tweets from embedding.  I turned it off and poof! there are the tweets.

    Cool. Glad you found it!

I think if you maintain your conditioning throughout the year then it's somewhat of a moot point.

My fiancée sees a professional strength coach and she's been assigned 20 minutes of high intensity cardio even on days she lifts. I think there are probably some similarities in the mindsets there. And, from a personal standpoint, I have a lot of friends who lift regularly and are a lot stronger than me. But, if you put us in high intensity cardio situations, they struggle a lot to keep up with me. You need to treat both equally or at least take your conditioning as serious as you take your lifting.

I think maintaining a base level of conditioning is useful to support training in general, sure.  That being said I'm not sure these guys lack this base level of conditioning.

But to me it's a question of optimizing use of time.  Strength takes longer to develop than conditioning. If you're a long way off from needing a high level of conditioning, why develop it now? I'd really like to know if there is some good reason behind this or is it done because "that's just the way we do it".

Lots of stuff works, for sure, especially when you're dealing with already gifted people.

I'm assuming by your post you're probably knowledgeable, but I'm still gonna say... I trust a guy who won an award this year for top S&C coach.

It's a hobby of mine, for sure.

That being said, challenging people who's experience in a given topic outweighs your own is what Internet forums are based on.  Isn't this board full of threads challenging and criticizing coaching decisions?

@DaveH I'm not sure it's the user end. I didn't have this problem with the tweets embedding for a while, but tonight I do.

Is it browser based?  Is it add-ons? Or is it something from the server?

I wish I knew more about this stuff to help out.  All I can tell you is what's happening here. When they first posted about tweets not embedding it wasn't happening for me. Now it is.

Firefox 56.0.2 on a Mac running OS 10.12.6

It's pretty much all javascript. No addons or anything like that.

Can you bring up the developer console in your browser and see if there are any related errors logged?

    Miami vs Wisconsin

    Speed vs power

Frost offense, "Florida speed" vs (a very good) B1G defense(s).

Miami will likely out recruit Nebraska for the highest caliber of "Florida speed".

    Preview of the future?

    Thoughts...

Is this supposed to be a poem of some sort?

Man, I say we hire DaveH. Screw eppley and Duval!

Lol if you actually think this new staff or the strength coach is "dumb" then you have no clue what you're talking about.

How on Gods green earth could you argue that the state of D1 strength coaching is crappy?! Please, give me links that back up your opinion because I really am curious.

If you don't think eppley and Duval know what they're doing, especially on a subject I was taught in a health and fitness general education class in college you're crazy

You see. This is what's sad about conversing in message boards sometimes.

    I literally said:

I'm not saying Frosts guy is dumb, but I think you could argue that the state of D1 strength coaching is kinda crappy.

I also gave you an article where dudes were put in the hospital by shady "strength coaches".

Epley is one of the rarities in that he knows how to get this stuff done. Duval probably does too if he's from the same vein.

That doesn't mean the rest of D1 "strength coaches" may be riding on the coat tails of elite athletes, which is my original point.

Stretching is for girls and old people, not the lumberjacks that we have at DONU.  Wake up, piss,  punch a bear in the face, lift weights, beat our opponents into a bloody pulp, drink 18 beers, make sweet beautiful love, go to sleep.   No stretching necessary.

Sounds good to me. Except I'm not sure where one finds bears for punching

Static stretching cold muscles is terrible but I bet Frost knows this. Just a hunch.

I don't know, man. D1 sports strength coaches can be, in general, pretty dumb sometimes.  I'm not saying Frosts guy is dumb, but I think you could argue that the state of D1 strength coaching is kinda crappy.

See the Oregon story from last year where a bunch of their players got rhabdo.

When you've selected for the most elite athletes, it's not hard to hide behind their talent.  These elite athletes are going to grow up and get better because that's what they've been selected for.

A strength coaches job should be to make them stronger anyway and certainly not put them in the hospital.

There is a place and time for static stretching, but it is after practice.  It helps with recovery.

This, too, I think is a hold over from years of "well we just did it that way". I don't think there is any indication that stretching actually helps recovery (as measured by future performance) or, for that matter, objectively does anything to improve long term outcomes.

  16. I hope he doesn't mean actual static stretching and means more dynamic warmup stuff that looks like football.

Static stretching has been shown time and time again to be a waste of time when compared to just doing the movements you're going to do.
