  1. I don't really subscribe to the cut\bulk season, so I guess my goals are still the same. Gain weight at ~2 pounds a month (this will probably come and go over time). Also, get stronger over a /long/ period of time using the three big lifts and their variants while maintaining a reasonable amount of body fat and conditioning. :)

Sam is not a rah rah guy when it comes to Husker football. Remember a few years ago when Sam's AP vote was the lowest in the poll for Nebraska? LINK Sam is definitely not a Kool-Aid drinker. It's almost like he takes pride in downplaying NU sometimes. :dunno

Did DaveH die? Just read through that post and i've never seen his posts.

    Can confirm. Not dead.

  3. The part I like that has been mentioned is that the players were able to give input on how much they were ready to lift. I'm not a big lifter but I would think that would be much more advantageous than a coach simply calculating it and giving you a sheet of paper telling you how much you are supposed to lift. Obviously, there would need to be good supervision to make sure some meat head isn't doing something he shouldn't. But, the personal input is important.

I thought that part was good as well. I like the notion of training to your potential every day. Some days you don't have it, some days you do. Trouble can be if you don't have a lot of experience you don't really know the difference.

This is a good post, but the interview that topic linked to was all Dobson quotes. We have quotes from players saying they have had big increases in their lifts. Although, maybe those would have happened anyway seeing as they're 20 year olds.

You know, that's a great point. If these kids are exposed to any program that's half right they'll make gains.. Their hormonal milieu is ripe for it.

I don't know whether to roll my eyes or be turned on.

It's true. It's science man, science.

I'm not passing info along it was in the ljs.http://m.journalstar.com/sports/huskers/football/huskers-like-early-results-under-new-strength-coach-philipp/article_c85a8647-1460-5953-8a8e-275ed936e144.html?mobile_touch=true

I will not even lower myself to the level of talking about injuries and saying Dobson wasn't hands on. Prove it or just don't talk about it imo. As far ad the article he says more mobility work and less power emphasis which translates to.me more cross fit bullsh#t less results from proven power lifting techniques . just my opinion. I would like them to say " wow my squat had went up 30 lbs" not "we ran more" imo

What good is strength if you can't get to your target? You need a balance of mobility as well in the world of sports. I see nothing wrong with doing more mobility work. 100% raw power will win you lifter of the year. Won't make you a great football player. Gerry needs his hip flexibility fixed. Improving fluidity etc will in turn allow better range of motion while lifting etc etc.

Hedley please. Powerlifting has more in common with football that track and field does. Count if anything takes you 3 hours that would be what I consider least optimal.

You need a mix amigo. I know you just want to have big bulky strongman that can't move playing football but that isn't how it works

No doubt, you do need both strength training and sport specific training when you're training for a sport.

You need to actually play the sport and do drills that are more specific. However, IMO the focus of your training should always based in strength.

Remember, a bigger engine doesn't slow the car down ;) It's never bad to be stronger.

I'm saying stronger, mind you. Not necessarily big and fat. Sure stronger people are usually bigger, but again the whole car and engine analogy...

  7.

Good read in that it actually gives a few specifics on what is different between the staff's. It's not just guys claiming to be so much better.

It does give two specifics: no preset weight limits and more Olympic lifting.

Thank god. IMO, any S&C program should be based on squats, deadlift, bench and cleans (from the floor, mind you. not from a hang).

It doesn't have to be complex, but it should be hard.

I can give the code to beat BYU.

BYU doesn't have much talent on offense aside from the quarterback who's really a running back because he can't pass very good. If your coaches go back and look at how Utah State and Utah have been able to shut down the BYU offense for years, Nebraska will win for guaranteed. The way Utah and Utah State has been able to beat BYU year in and out drives all the Cougar fans crazy because they hate so bad to lose to the two state schools in Utah they look down on and despise so hard. BYU fans run around saying they're school is the Harvard of the West for academics and the Notre Dame of the West for sports.

OK the code, if you lock down BYU receivers, it puts Taysom Hill in a position that he has to run in order for the Kewger offense to gain any yards. The offense is mostly 1 dimensional with the lack of talent. It's also not very hard to shut down BYU passing game because Hill is almost always off target, sometimes badly. So after shutting down BYU passing, put a spy on Hill who can run faster than him. Hill will start running a lot if the passing game is going bad, so you just need to get him that that's his only option and he'll play right into your defense's hands if the spy is quick enough to run him down.

Your coaches should also be aware of possible cheap shots like the horrible helmet to helmet hit BYU did on Washington posted above.

Good luck in the game. A lot of people in Utah will be cheering for Big Red.

I have a hard time taking this seriously.

AggieAndee is a long time Utah State troll who visits the message board of every BYU opponent to talk smack about BYU. It's a really weird obsession.

That seems like a terribly odd way to spend your time..

  9. Without looking into it, it would likely be pretty tough to do and not really worth the time.

There is a ton of code and templating that goes on in board software that trying controlling the load or script execution order would likely make you want to kill someone.

  10. I'd just bench more and stay away from isolation stuff if one of your goals is to push your bench up.

Program in some of these too:

    2 count paused bench

    3 count paused bench

    close grip bench

    floor press

towel press (or board press or what have you)

    standing overhead barbell press

You don't recall any acute pain when "doing legs" recently?

Could be just a muscle tear. Going to a doctor will likely just cost you money for him to tell you what you already know. You pulled something and you need to rehab it. Which doesn't mean sitting on it. If it's not painful to move, then keep working.

My legs are always sore after leg day. But no I don't recall any acute pain. Perhaps I had a little wider stance etc that someone previously mentioned.

Probably. No acute pain is a good thing. I'd probably just train through it

I use workout gloves because it helps with grip and doesnt rip up my delicate hands.

    not a macho thing.

Be a man and get those calluses, they only hurt for the first couple months.

    Preach

That and if you grip correctly, calluses should be minimized anyway. Gloves seem to throw things off, but I used to use them
