  1. It's a hole isn't it, something he should stick his head into anyway. This guy sucks, his staff sucks and our those poor kids have to suffer because of this idiot we have right now.
  2. I'm glad the discussions this week about how our program is headed in the right direction came up, because given the results of the game with Ball State, I believe you people are correct. I mean here is a program that isn't even in our class of competitive football and we, at home, had a very good football game for fans to watch. It's great to witness us having a difficult time with teams like this one, it builds character over a season, hey maybe when we play ISU, it will be close like this and we can further appreciate the benefits that Coach Callahan brings to Husker Nation. Let's stand and applaud at least the victory, I mean we escaped by the leg of a kicker who couldn't put the ball between the uprights or else we would once again be hearing the comments from Husker faithful in here about how we need to back Coach Callahan and his staff and how he is here to stay, so let's just settle and get used to it. Great idea all you Huskers for mediocrity. I on the other hand, having bleed Husker Red since birth, do not wish to settle and will in here continually lobby for a coach firing and starting over with someone who's head is not up his yoohoo and shows no enthusiam whatsoever to the Huskers that bleed true RED!!! Like Me!!!
  3. You know, every year of my 42 since I could play, watch, and coach football, Nebraska has been my one entertainment. I will not lie, the year they finally won number three, I shed tears because my family (personal) of diehard Huskers had waited so long to see it and it finally had come again. I started out with high hopes every year that Osborne took his teams to the field, always believing they had a shot, without question. Well that feeling I used to get, and even with lowly Solich and his game calling ability, I still managed to believe sincerely. But with this coach and how he has implemented this offense and the shabby defense, the enthusiam that just goes away and then makes the next week a guessing game, we are in trouble. Maybe not to the extent of losing seasons, but mediocre at best is what is in store for us until this man is gone. I no longer have that feeling about the Huskers that with a new year comes the hope and expectations of success because under Callahan, that is but a pipe dream, get used to it. It's like the Red Sox, right now they are just finding ways to screw it up and it isn't the players fault.
  4. I agree to a certain extent on what you say, but the determining factor is usually the performance in fall camp that the award is presented. But the problem lies in the coaches that award them and then are afraid to take them away. They will stick with this defense because it is the only one they have with any experience and will not turn to fresh choices because of the close minded behavior they have conditioned themselves to.
  5. You know what the practice of years ago still will work today. If we have all this talent sitting around waiting in the wings because they proved to be a product we could use, then use them when necessary. If they continue to tackle like crap we will lose more games because of these idiotic phrases, well everyone else does it that way. Well we pride ourselves on being unique, so let's start acting like it and get back to a winning tradition. Practice them hard and make them hungry all week, so that instead of hitting each other during the week they can take out some real pain on the opponent. And if you cant use the proper technique when tackling yank their butts out of there and put in someone else that will.
  6. LSU's schedule tougher than USC's? The past couple years, yes. This year, I don't think so. And quite frankly, this looks like a down year for the rest of the SEC West, Auburn looks terrible, Arkansas has dropped off from last year, and although Alabama seems to be on the rise, Saban's only got so much to work with. I think the East is better than the West across the board, but still not as good as everyone anticipated. I think Florida still has it easier than USC. Plus, USC already gets to boast dismantling a #14 on the road in their second game of the year. You do mean a very soft #14 dont you. They didn't deserve to be ranked that high.
  7. The bottom line is that we are wasting precious talent that eveyone seems to think is in our recruiting classes. Well, qb's will not stick around if they do not see a chance of starting for more than one year. These guys will start to transfer and once again we will back to poor recruiting classes. I dont know what he's selling these kids to come here and play, but I can tell you if they dont they will spread the word about the bs he is handing out and it will stop real quick.
  8. Sorry you feel that way, must be the military Chief in me. Hard to stay calm when you care so passionately about something so dear to many.
  9. Do you really want to know the effort level of a player that's up by 39 points over that which is only up by a score? There is a difference mind you. And even if you tell me that in watching that game, you saw that every starter in beginning were the same at the end for USC, I would tell you are mistaken. That team started coasting and because Pete Carroll has class he did not let it get anymore out of hand than it did. please.... he went for it on 4th and 4 with his starters still in the game. he let up some, but he hardly coasted Would you have rathered him really open up and continue the onslaught of what he could have or just the 4th and 4?
  10. Thanks for the correction. LOL

  12. I am still wondering how IMO that anyone can critisize another Husker Fans opinion because of stating the obvious. We have been stuck in a rut for so long and continually based on the results of beating down teams that DII teams would give a good game against, seem to view our Football Team as one that will mysteriously appear some year sometime. This game is complicated, recruiting, training, coaching and implementing and functioning as a whole are elements that create a condusive atmosphere to winning. Now someone mentioned the past and Bo Pelini, why was he not considered, well that's said and done. We have what we have, but this group of friends that Coach Callahan has assembled do not give us the best possibility of winning or defending against anyone. Each game this year will be a test to see which team comes on the field, the one with the pride of Nebraska football or the one licking its wounds from a loss to yet another ranked team. And I'm sorry, regardless of USC's stated ranking, they are not the number one football team in the country in a lot of people's view except the writers, LSU and Florida are much better and will have many more challenges than USC will have in getting to the BSC championship. Our conference schedule will be tougher than most give credit for, because all those butt whippins we handed out over the years are always prevalent on the minds of every athlete on every conference opponent we face. So get ready true Husker Fans, this years road to a bowl game is going to be very interesting to say the least.
  13. OK...for the umteenth millionth time...what is your solution? Any game plan after you fire everyone? This is like a little kid who lights a firecracker under a Rottweiler's ass, then runs inside and locks the door. Unfortunately there is no solution and you are right with what we are stuck with presently. The qb we have is not the greatest and has been played up way to much. His consistency is lacking and what we do against poor teams is not indicative of improvement as much as others would like to believe. The true test is as it has always been, what you do against the big boys shows the direction you are headed in. This team has suffered embarrasing losses to ranked teams for way to long for us to keep being satisfied with what presently is happening. The solution is easy, but damning for another five years if we quit on Callahan and company. But his success will not come until we have some consistency on offense and defense and that is not readily apparent.
  14. Let's see, wasn't it that other individual who hired this waste of time? That would be our AD, he has done a fine job in other area's of Husker athletics, but this one is an abyssmal failure.
  15. You hit the nail on the head brother. People seem to think that waiting the amount of time it took us to win the previous championships is ok, well guess what, it's not. These guys are terrible and those that back the mediocrity that they have in store for us, get used to it. My father and I have followed Husker football for as long as any faithful in here and still the same comments come in about patience. Patience is a weakness and the Husker programs from the Osborne era didn't have any, they had there inadequasies, but they always percentage wise competed for the National Title. It has not happened for over ten years and will not as long as Callahan is coaching this football team.
  16. Once again, AMEN to that and many other comments similar. This team is not headed in the right direction and those that think it is just haven't got the guts to say it because they dont want to seem disloyal. None of us who make comments like this are disloyal, we just want this program back where it belongs at the top and not in the middle or worse yet the bottom.
  17. Rally for Cally? Heck, I just spent $800 on a pair of USC tickets, so don't suggest I'm a bagger. I'm just telling you this is the way it is - good, bad, or indifferent. Unless you're a medium, this is your opinion just like everyone elses. Opinions are like buttholes...everyone has 'em. Not knocking your's. You just kinda made it sound like your opinion was the right one and anyone who thinks anything different is just wrong. So, you are saying that waiting more than the five years is good for us Husker fans to get used to for another Championship and more patience is in order. In this day and age my friend, the farther you fall behind the harder it is to get back in the mix. I dont care how many classes we get, they haven't been in the top anything according to the big polls and are far behind those that are contending for championships, so get ready to wait until this staff is gone before you see any results and then we will wait another period to see results. Relax in that easy chair because the ride is going to be rough a long time. I'm still confident that Cally can get the job done. We have a GREAT recruiting class coming in next year and last year we had our best in a while. I think we're moving in the right direction.
  18. Now as a former player and coach, I remember getting blasted everytime I didn't wrap up. How many years have we watched this macho style tackling where the player tries to knock the guy off his feat with a good blast only to have that individual gain another 15 yards because he didn't wrap him up. That is coaching my friend and has nothing to do with the player. Great defensive players are taught how to tackle we have yet to learn that on alot of occasions lately. And Ruud and McKeon are products of coaching, they are great players and will do well as you say if the D-line does there job to keep guys off of them. That is their responsibility, I understand that point you made. But the big picture is we have been waiting a long time for a transition back to the style of football that won Championships not to just compete to win 8 or 9 games and compete for a backseat bowl berth. This coaching staff will not lead us to the promise land, I guarantee you that Sir.
  19. Sorry, didn't have time to review all the postings. Have listened to these people for so long talking about Callahan being our saving Grace and has yet to provide any light at the end of the tunnel.
  20. I have watched this offense unfold for Callahan for four years and still not be utilized as it was intended; the way Coach Walsh designed it. And how we can pin our hopes on 1 year stints between starting qb's should give the true football of Husker nation a clue that we are not headed in the right direction. This offense is up and down and has not turned into the way it was supposed to in leading us back to the prominent teams in the country. We are no better than we were when Solich was at the helm, hey at least he kept us in contention for the national championship, we haven't seen that under Callahan yet. That defense against USC was horrible. They ran the same play with different blocking schemes all night with little resistance, my five year old daughter could have gained 30 yards with the holes they had opening up all night. That score was a true testament that this teams defense and offense are lacking the coaching necessary to win big in the conference and will continue to struggle until that coach is gone. Now I know I will hear the grumblings from Husker fans, but you are the same ones that have been sitting in the chairs the last 10 years wondering when we will compete truly for another championship. I will guarantee you that it will not happen with this coaching staff at the helm and remember my name, because when Callahan gets fired I will be saying it to all of you nay sayers that he's the one to point us in the right direction. And that AD should get his rear end ready for a pink slip too, because the cash cow the football program used to be isn't anymore.
  21. The high school I played for in 1983 was ranked #23 when I played in Omaha, Nebraska. We didn't end up so well in the playoffs, but we enjoyed a once in lifetime experience when no one else expected much of us. I have played for very well-coached teams, coached very good teams, and listened to outstanding coaches at clinics, but never enjoyed that elusive championship at the end. My heart has bled Husker football since I could walk and all I want is what we tasted in the 90's. I do not believe that the longstanding records we once held for victories in a season, consecutive bowls, and many others went by the wayside during this transition. I do not know everything there is to know about football, but I've played, coached, and watched more football than most in my 41 years and that my friend is why I believer in observing some of the better programs in college football that we are not close to achieving the status we once held or at least competing for it.
  22. I would say that Keller has enough experience to not be considered a first year starter. He also has had his share of big game experiences. You may argue that he has had neither at Nebraska, but I don't think you can discount his experiences at ASU either. That was with them, I think you can determine that it is not the same when joining a different team. Although he has been with them all year in a Scout Team position, he will have to develop his niche quite quickly to make a diffence if and when he earns the job.
  23. I don't think poorly of you. As I stated earlier, I appreciate responses from people with expertise on this board, but I don't know where your expertise is illuminated in your posts. Heck, Lou Holtz is an expert in college football, but most of the time his comments are opinionated rather than factual. (Like every comment he has about Notre Dame). I just think that you have an overly dismal perception of the football program. Yes, I'm one of those "we shall see" types. If you don't see the improvement year-in and year-out from the Callahan era, then I'm at a loss as to explain my optimism for next year (but I will try). Yes, we have a tough schedule. There is no arguing that point. However, every position next year is either fortified with more depth and talent than this past year except, perhaps, the defensive line. I would venture that, four years ago, if we would have had to play Auburn, Texas, USC, and Oklahoma, we would have been demolished in each of those games because the talent was not up to the level that it is now. However, this year, we went toe-to-toe with each of those teams - except USC. We're respectable again. We're top of the Big Twelve North (restored the order), played in Big Twelve Championship Game, and played in a New Years Day bowl game. The team keeps improving and, now, all the Huskers need is to win some of those big games - which I think will happen next year. We shall see. By the way - Solich was 9-3....Pelini was 1-0 Number 1; those were Solich's players on that field and regardless whether he was present or not they won that game for him and the rest of the Hall of Fame coaches that had their last game that night. That staff was cohesive, this one has yet to prove that exists with poor second half performances throughout the year, and once again, not my words those of the players. Number 2; The reason Nebraska won the North is because the competition in that division is so poor it's laughable. Look conversely at the South and where we would have fallen if we had to play that schedule every year, good luck. Number 3; A good salesman can bring them in the door, but keeping them happy once they are there is a different story. Let me ask you, if you were a QB and you had 5 other QB's that you would be competing against and you wanted to play in two years, would you stay at Nebraska given their infancy in the West Coast Offense? Number 4; The Big Twelve Championship was proof that Zach Taylor did not deserve the Big 12 Player of the Year Award. At some point you have to be able to survive on your own two feet and make things happen, he did not when it counted and was most important. Number 5; As far as the returning talent you say is coming back, well I hope that defense comes back with a vengence because the offense will be with a first year starter at qb and no big game experience whatsoever. Heralded or not, talent at that position (QB) better be blue chip or else it's not going to be pretty. I would enjoy writing a positive to glow about regarding Nebraska football, Lord knows I do enough bragging about them in New England and take plenty of crap for it, but the fact remains that it is another three years away before we see any sign that this team and Callahan's recruits will make a difference. My apologies with regard to Booty's first name, but I figured seeing the last name would be enough to clue those in on who I was talking about.
  24. Actually, I did watch a lot of bowl games. Did you watch the Cotton Bowl? How about the Big Twelve Championship Game - did you watch that game? Or did you happen to catch the Texas - Nebraska game? We played well - at least up to the competition - in each of those games. Skill position players? Well, of course, some teams have better players at certain positions than the Huskers will in 2007. That is the nature of the game. That doesn't mean that we do not have the talent to compete (and win) against any top 10 team. But, I agree with you....it is going to be a difficult road for the Huskers to come away with 10 wins next year given our schedule. However, we will be better team next year. Don't[ be surprised if we are favored to win the Big Twelve next year by some reputable publications. And, I would bet that the Huskers are given a preseason rank somewhere in the range of 11-15. What you fail to realize is that many like you have been saying the same thing for years about improvement and "we shall see" type comments every year for the last five. Even in the last of year of Solich's stand at Nebraska he was 10-3. Although my expertise may seem in question to you, for the last five years I have been correct about where would be the next year. I dont want to debate the positives about maybe a game here or there where the team shined, but the second half of to many games they just truly sucked. Those are not my comments, those are the players thoughts. So think what you will about me, but you haven't been watching the same football I have.
