  1. Just to set the record straight between you and I; I have never liked this guy from the beginning and I stated so on here many a time watching games the last four years. But you are right, I would have enjoyed the success, but still not been a fan of his, especially if the defense would have suffered the way it is now without him doing something about it.
  2. You're right but there's no need IMO to rehash the coulda, woulda, shoulda's in this scenario because we'll never know. It's too hard to say exactly how the season would have turned out. You are exactly, but it is irritating as hell knowing the outstanding performances given so far.
  3. Doesn't this infuriate anyone else; that we had this man sitting on the sidelines for the season? It further proves that Callahan does not know his own personnel. There are some darn good football players just foaming at the mouth to play defense to make plays too. But this qb situation really makes me wonder what this kid could have done all season if he had been named the starter from the beginning. It looks as if the players respond to him real well in two games and the intensity is starting to go back up again. And believe me that has nothing to do with Callahan, he is a puppet right now on strings. Those strings will be cut no matter what his outcome against CU and a possible bowl bid and win. It's just a shame we will never know what could have been this year with Ganz at the helm.
  4. And I also agree. There is no reason to involve his family, especially his kids! They didn't do anything. I'm sure they live on pins and needles every day. WE ARE NEBRASKA.....we're better than that! We're not used to all of this and it IS hard to deal with, but my Dad always used to say, "There's better days ahead". You're damn right!!! And I will be the first to stand up and say, "Happy Days are here again"!!!!
  5. I agree with you to show some respect to his family, but this is the name of the game in Major College Football. I dont agree with the fact that when he came in here, he dismissed all of the coaches like they were trash and new nothing or couldn't contribute to his philosophy of change. IMO you do not take over 20 years of experience and dismiss them without first testing them to see if they are willing to accept the changes he wanted to implement. And look where we stand now, our offensive line, our defense, and special teams have no enthusiasm, no passion, and no self-respect for the very essense of Husker Football. That is a coaches job and even he gives good lip service to the fans about what he will continue to do until they show him the door, he has failed to keep the faith alive in his players in the last few games. The first two plays of Saturdays game, the defense made two very good stops, but there was no hype, emotion, or celebration for what they had just accomplished. The wind is out of the sails and they are drifting to nowhere presently and that is a direct result of the coaches not caring anymore than the players because of the inevitability of this man's departure after the Colorado game. So, he isn't even a man of his word to keep the fight in his players alive for the rest of the season, he has given up also, proven so with his snub of the finest man ever to coach College Football DR. TOM. I still agree with you about the lack respect some people do not give a man to his personal property or his family, but the ridicule he receives is justly deserved. Even in the military when you dont have a good boss, you still respect the position he holds and if your integrity is as high as he says his is, then you give praise to someone who has been there and done that.
  6. Quite honestly, there was nothing wrong with what they did, that we haven't done to them in the past. It doesn't matter whether you have your starters in or reserves, you still have to do your job to stop them, and if you cant, it's not their job to lie down and play dead just so they dont score anymore. And furthermore, at this point in the season, I'm looking for more glory for the Big 12 and three teams in the top 10 in BCS gives us some credibility for all the grumblings the past few years about the conference being one sided. Nebraska has been our shining star for my entire 42 years, was I spoiled as the rest of us for so many years of success, yes. We expect alot, and with that we have to be able to take what many other top college programs have suffered also. This too will end at the end of the season, with BC getting fired and we will once again have to go through the growing pains with a different coaching staff in place. It will take patience, but no coach can do any worse than what BC has done to destroy every bit of reputation we had except for fan support, he cannot and will not ever take that away from this Blood RED Husker Fan!!!!
  7. I understand that, but I'm looking for an open honest assessment of what will propel us into the elite powers once again. I think this year is seriously just a freak year and the assumptions that parity is here are hogwash. Next year, I think the top programs will once again dominate and things will be back the way they were, it always has been that way and will not change IMO. But I want to know from everyone; what diversification we will need to win again successfully against everyone and not just the lower programs. I would tend to agree with your opinion. An offense predicated on the power running game with the zone game mixed in. Definitely need the ability to throw... I'd like to see a more balanced attack that could attract top flite WR recruits as well as the best RB recruits. BUT...more than anything...gimme a DOMINANT DEFENSE!!!!! I agree with you there, DEFENSE wins championships, not necessarily a powerful offense. They go hand in hand, but teams have won with dominant defense and so so offenses.
  8. I understand the article clearly and the words are exactly how quarterbacks are delt with in this game. But the fact is, in BC's 4th season we laid our hopes on a one year wonder to take us to the promise land and that doesn't work in this game of College Football. I mean how many programs can people name off the top of their head where the successful qb was there one year and did something great with no game experience with that team or that offense. IMO, you needed to have a guy that is going to be your mainstay for a good two years or three better to get the results you hope come with experience, leadership, and the mental toughness to go through the rigors of a season of College Football. Of course, it is not Keller's fault and I wish that he had been here in the beginning for two or three years, but he wasn't and the results speak for themselves and that is the load you take on as a qb. He was stuck between a rock and hardplace. His talent will speak for itself should the NFL wish to give him a shot, but personally I dont think he has that kind of talent, but then again the NFL doesn't have an abundance of quality starters or back-ups as they did in the 80's and 90's.
  9. 10. I was just wondering what the consensus is on what offense would best suit the Huskers for the new coach after this one is dismissed? I mean, personally I thought the running game before with the option offense was fine, but that it needed the addition of a thirty to forty percent mix of pass to go with it to keep defenses honest. Teams basically forced us into passing which was our weakness and we have always had a difficult time with top 10 opponents once we fell behind because of that weakness. Essentially, I'm looking for what our fans think would work best and not just the norm today of an open passing game. We have always been a powerful, grind'em out, push'em back, and wear'em out type of football team in the past, why can we not get back to that type of football with a sufficient passing attack? Need some help fans, tell me your thoughts.
  11. Good Lord, give it a rest. Bill Callahan is the Husker coach, and we will see what happens for the rest of the year. The last few weeks had to be sheer hell on BC, the coaching staff, and the players. Don't add to it. Let the program work. Get a life, and don't add to the problems. I guess you enjoy the embarrassment this HC has brought to the program and also enjoyed the records fall under his tenure. Most of which had stood for over thirty years, mmmm, I wonder what makes someone believe this guy deserves the rest of the season to prove further that he is not the right man for this particular program. It matters naught though, he will be gone, at years end.
  12. Most coaches script their first 15 to 20 plays of the game and dont change from that order. I agree with you though in viewing games from the past, he always has his head down looking at what to do next. But he didn't get to where he is at being an idiot regardless of his tenure here at Nebraska.
  13. If this is true why would they keep a coaching staff that knows it's going to be gone. If I was in that kind of situation I would be calling all the recruits and tell them to look for other schools. The recruits would be talking about this and no way way would it be kept under cover. I'm throwing the bs flag Nebraska just got lucky last time that most of the coaches off of Solichs staff were loyal Husker fans other then Pelini though he thought he might have a shot at HC. Anyone who knows Husker football of past including recruits and see's a change for the better coming, will still be interested in coming to Nebraska. These changes will put Nebraska back in a position to compete, and that's all the players want. The other stuff will come naturally in time once the changes have been incorporated and we are rid of the bad element that exists now in that locker room.
  14. It was a relief to see that someone took a stand finally and made a good decision based on results. I think Dr. Tom will the choices necessary in the coming weeks to put this program back on track the way he left it. It just still boggles the mind how he won those Championships and left a perfectly good mold for someone to follow and they screwed it up. IMO, the only thing that was needed to the offense at the time he left was a little more diversity with the passing game, other than that, it was going to stay in perfectly good shape for years to come. Now, we shall see through the action of a man with integrity and concern for the players, fans, and players past what is needed to right the ship in a direction to glory days once again. I have no concerns with him at the helm running things for as long as it takes to put us back on the map of college football.
  15. What is exactly your point ? That if we do hire someone to replace SP, that the person has Husker ties as well. I want what is best for the players to be first on the list of priorities.
  16. Please check your facts before posting....you are incorrect: Courtesy: NU Media Relations In his first stint at Nebraska, Pederson helped negotiate the original football contract with adidas in 1995 and oversaw the recent completion of a new contract that will supply all Husker teams with adidas apparel through 2010. Pederson and his wife, Tami, both earned degrees from the University of Nebraska. Steve earned his bachelor’s degree from Nebraska in business administration in 1980 and began his career at Nebraska, first as a sports information assistant (1980-81) and then as football recruiting coordinator (1982 to 1986). He returned as the associate athletic director for football operations from 1994 to 1996. As the Husker associate athletic director for football, Pederson oversaw the refurbishment of the football administrative offices, and the construction of a new halftime meeting room, postgame interview room and players and coaches locker rooms. He reorganized the program’s administrative wing and played a definitive role in Nebraska’s three national championships in the 1990s (1994, 1995 and 1997) under Head Coach Tom Osborne. A native of North Platte, Neb., Pederson has experience in the non-athletic business sector, spending one year as Ak-Sar-Ben’s Public Relations Director (1981-82), and two years in private business in Nebraska (1986 to 1988), before returning to college football in 1988 at Ohio State. Pederson and his wife Tami Osborne Pederson have three children: Mark, Kari and Kristin. Tami earned a bachelor’s of music education degree and a master’s of music degree from Nebraska. She is a violinist with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra and teaches violin at Nebraska Wesleyan University. She has performed with professional orchestras and string quartets in Nebraska, Ohio, Tennessee and Pennsylvania and has taught at Capital University and the University of Tennessee. I dont care if he did, I want the same for the replacement, without the bias of my friends will help me do this type of mentality. He is not obviously a very intelligent individual if he allows this type of mentality to get worse and not do anything to stop the bleeding going on.
  17. I said before I will say it again, this guy was never the answer from day one IMO. Everyone was hogwild about this coach when he came and the new system, now look at us. I'm not screaming or ranting about the choices we fans chose to follow, but I personally did not like changing our system totally away from the run oriented style we had previously. Some more passing would have been good, this has been more to the point where our passing game flourishes and our run game is null and void. The players are now suffering and grumbling between themselves and the passion that has been lost in our Football program and they see it, but SP does not. He needs to go first and then the rest need to line up and follow. Whatever choice is made to change our coaches, the first choice should be an AD that has ties to Husker Football, where the kids will come first and not friends. In the end these coaches will find other jobs, our players will not get back these years playing for the University of Nebraska and experiencing the proud tradition of competing for a National Championship.
  18. I have long since been an advocate that all students, regardless of talent should be required to give the school four years for which they receive scholarship. I'm not really sure what you realistically expect though of today's players. This is a huge business and top notch program. These kids generate tons of revenue for the school and themselves later on should they make the NFL. For some (very little), education is the last thing on their minds when you look at the majors they study. Now, I have long been very proud to boast about the Academic All-Americans this university has produced, but the bottom line is, this is major college football and these kids want and thrive on National Championships, not losing. This is not just the first beginnings of losing we are seeing here, this has been here for 4 years under this coaching staff and the fans will not stand for it. We true Husker Fans will always support our team, but we cannot stand to see the spirit, the excitement, and the inability of coaches to motivate players be a permanent part of this tradition. The words spoken by these fans in here are the feelings that have been a part of our lives since we were able to identify what Nebraska football is. Some have cried in joy back in 95', enjoyed the fanfare associated with winning, and even some have been resigned to the fact that we had an off year prior to BC. This tenure of coaching is the exact opposite of what we have come to know as Nebraska football and they are getting worse, not better, and the sad thing, everyone around the country can see it, but the AD. His legacy will be told in that he ruined for a period in time Nebraska Football and the fans here are not going to stand for it. Education is supposed to be number 1, but in this day and age, it is truly number 2 when it comes down to winning football programs. No one says you cannot do both, but we are sinking fast and the only people that are realizing that are the fans of our football team. This team is not going to win the big games this year giving up 600 yds. in offense, because offense hasn't kept up. And you cannot be one dimensional in this game and be a top team. The fighting within has just begun and will continue to fester until a coaching change is made.
  19. I believe being optomistic is always a good thing when there is some truth to what is believed, but this team and its coaching leadership is down right horrible. It has to start with the man at the top and right now, he is in the same company as the rest IMO. We had to many games over his tenure where the offense has done nothing and the defenses we played against were not that great, they were just fired up against us. The rest of the season is gone, we will lose three more games at least before this horrific dream is over. I would like to be optomistic about what remains, but realistically there isn't much hope when the players are feeling the same thing we the true fans are feeling too. I would never boycott anything to do with Big Red Football, I'm a fan for life, and I just cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel with this group of coaches. If we are to start something new it has to be from the top down and not just the assistants.
  20. No.1; it is degrading to the players to be tudored by poor coaching. And I think poor is being nice here!! No.2; I said it before and I've been saying it for three years that these coaches were not the answer to our turnaround and now finally the group of us true Husker Fans understand what I was talking about. He is no motivator and that idiot Pederson needs to get his walkin shoes in order too, because these boys will be packing their bags soon. No.3; There is no way our system of football that was just fine before and in need of a change or modification to something more modern to today's game, should have ever gotten this far in the hole. No. 4; The boosters have to stand up now and call for their firing, this season and everyone after it will be nothing but mediocre as long as this staff stays present at Nebraska. If they are going to change it had better be at the end of the season. No.5; Bragging rights, even before BC we had bragging rights, no more. We had off years, but I was still able to boast about this team because of its never say die spirit, that is gone, along with a lot of pride and tradition that the players of past built. In four years this coach has destroyed so many of the long standing records the players had held and now are gone. I cannot stand where we have come, I never supported this coach from day 1!! I new changing our system was a mistake and that things would get worse and the players would suffer tremendously and look where we are at now. This is worse than any loss that I ever watched us take at the hands of Oklahoma and Barry Switzer to deminish our National Title hopes. If the true Husker Fans do not stand up and call for this man's firing, than those that said I was a non loyal Husker Fan are the true living in a unrealistic world of college football. I really hope that because of the pain that still lies ahead this season that we do not take a hit in our recruiting, but I fear the worst when the results of this season become more apparent to the top high school athlete that Nebraska has lost its luster for football. I will keep supporting the players as always, but this team and those of the future under this staff are doomed to failure as long as they here.
  21. I dont ever stop supporting the players EVER!!!! They are the heart and soul and only play to what the coaches have taught them given their abilities. These coaches though are wasting good players talent on the bench and it is just a shame that Husker fans must be subjected to this as well as the players who came to this University to win and be successful on the football field. I have never and I'm sure the those that understand football dont blame the players for techniques that the coaches are supposed to teach and instill. If they do not then they recruited the wrong talent or the coaches need to go and this process needs to start all over again with someone more qualified.
  22. Please, Husker fans are always loud giving teams trouble calling the signals, but they are disgusted right now and lacking coaching, spirit, and heart. Husker fans, former players, and even opponents see the communication problems going on, yet no one does anything about the lacklusker play. We expect competitive football, this is embarrassing to watch these Callahan teams the last three years, never did I ever witness this kind of football when watching Osborne or Solich coaching their Husker teams. For all the hoopla about his recruiting skills, great, but if you cannot coach that talent into a competitive football team what good does it do. Get ready, like the rest of the unrealistic Husker fans out there, we are in for a long hard hard road without a competitive football team until this staff is gone. I love my Huskers, but it is very difficult to watch and stomach what goes on that football field on our own field. And the kids are the ones suffering for it, because of Peterson and the rest of those coaches. hmmm look at Bo Pelini and his kids are doing these days, ahh what could have been. Thanks Peterson
  23. COZ IS THE PROBLEM NOT CALLAHAN!!!!! If you want to say it's Cally's fault for not firing him yet then I can see that, but he doesn't call the plays on defense! He is ultimately responsible for this team and he is not doing his job of keeping this team competitive when he has to fight to score more points than the team that is kicking his rear end on defense because his D-coordinator sucks hind end. When you allow something to perpetuate itself over 4 years and do nothing, you are putting undo pressure on the kids fighting to learn something from someone who just doesn't know how to defend against anyone. The gameplans final decision is the head coach, not the coordinator's. He is in charge, he gets the boot as well. Not going to happen Coz yes Cally no............ Mark my words we lose 4 games this year and Callahan will be seriously considered a liability and not an asset in Lincoln, regardless of whether he fires Coz or not. If he chooses not to fire Coz, they both will be gone at years end or the next for sure. Reason being, we will once again next year be starting with an inexperienced qb who undoubtedly have trouble running a ship he has never sailed do to the close this year prohibiting him from getting any playing time. So, final word fire him or will be hurting for many years to come and have a gap of twenty something years in between our next set of championships.
  24. COZ IS THE PROBLEM NOT CALLAHAN!!!!! If you want to say it's Cally's fault for not firing him yet then I can see that, but he doesn't call the plays on defense!
