  1. Should I give a crap what Crotch has to say? Might have been a good player on the field, but off the field and since he left, he is nothing mut an embarassment -- now their is a quitter. So don't click.
  2. Here- http://www.am1300thezone.com/main.html Click on listen live
  3. Roddick still lives here in Austin. He recently did an instore appearance at Golfsmith. Yes, he is a big Husker fan.
  4. I don't remember TO and Mack being real tight because Mack wasn't around the Big 12 much before TO retired, but I do remember Mack and Solich being pretty tight. If you don't mind, could you highlight some of the things Crouch said in his interview? Thanks in advance. Shoot, I just lost about 20 minutes of post material. Mack has said that he took an assistant's job at Iowa St. earlier in his career just to get close to Nebraska and Tom Osborne and see how things were done at NU. He has also mentioned TO and NU, several times, when describing the atmosphere that he was creating at UT. As far as Eric's interview, he mostly commented on how things are different now. He reminisced about the physical nature of practices back in the day. They were so physical that gameday felt like a break, and therefore was fun and easy. He sounded disgusted with the "no pads in practice" theory. He said it looks very hard for the players to play a game, now. He was promoting something called the All American Football League. The shows host is Bucky Godbolt, who was on John Macovick's staff. He was the one who called "Roll Left" at the '96 B-12 championship. He recruited Ricky Williams, also, so he's pretty knowledgable on college football. They talked about how embracing traditions and former greats is the way to instill pride in current players. Eric said that he doesn't think that the current players are being told about Nebraska's past greats, and traditions. That they are not told of the importance and pride of having that "N" on your helmet. They talked about the walk-on program and how it changed and how it was a source of players who wanted to play for the University. The whole gist of the interview was things have changed, not that change is necessarily bad, but that traditions and the past should still be embraced, and it doesn't seem like these things are being embraced. So the players aren't playing football with pride, Nebraska football, and are definitely not haing any fun. Bucky noted many similarities between Callahan and Mackovick. The arrogant, condescending nature in press conferences, the stubborness to accept no responsibility when things are melting down, and the lack of emphasis on defense. Apparantly, Macovick had his knee blown out in a practice when he was standing in the wrong place on a particular play that came his way. Then a few months later, stood in the same place for the same play, in practice, and reinjured the same knee. If you get a chance, listen in the mornings online the rest of the week, all Nebraska game all the time. http://www.am1300thezone.com/main.html
  5. The weather has been beautiful here, lately. I'll keep an eye out for him at Barton Creek Resort. I'll bet he's teeing it up. Maybe he wants to hang with Mack Brown. Mack has been very complimentary to NU and TO. There was a lot of anticipation for this game, locally speaking. Radio stations scheduled remotes a while ago, thinking that this would be an epic showdown. We kind of let them down. Eric Crouch was on 1300 the Zone yesterday, it was a good interview, he had a lot to say about the current state of the program. One of the things that the locals latched onto was Callahan's "no pads, flag football like practices" during the week. I'm betting he's got a tee time for the Fazio Canyons at Barton Creek.
  6. A bunch(500 or so) of Husker fans rented out Scholtz's Beer Garden for a get together on Friday night. Scholtz's is a rather historic place here in Austin. Located just south of campus on San Jacinto at 17th street. I think it starts around 8:00p.m. If anyone is going to be in town, that should be some fun. I've gotta go get my son from school now, but I will post more events that could be happening. Possible golf get together, also.
  7. Ditka would win the Indy 500, driving a bus. According to the guys over at Swerski's Pub-N-Grub.
  8. "many are against it, but most really dont have a legit reason why.... they just dont."-melscott62 There are several reasons that one could consider "legit". He kept, allegedly, more of a .....let's say "family friendly" schedule. Which, if you're in a position to enjoy, is priceless. I can personally attest to that. However, one could legitimatelly think that we need someone who would be more committed to improving our football team. I'm not knocking him. I wouldn't make that sacrifice. There are other reasons, experience, philosophy, motivational accumen, that could be considered "legit".
  9. I think TO needs to go the comittee route this time. I believe we could have done a lot better than Solich after the '97 season. Nebraska was a pretty attractive job, then. If we get some more knowlegable opinions brainstorming, I think the final selection will be less controversial, and therefore, have more universal support. TO should come back and HELP fix the mess he had a hand in creating, not just make the same mistake that Pedersen made by conducting a one man search. A rather embarassing search at that. ?HOUSTON NUTT? He really tied his boat of success to whomever he hired, which ultimately clouded his judgement in offering the extension.....Whatever, all I'm saying is, enough with the one man search crews. We're MIA and we need all hands available to find the true NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS.
  10. Who brings up Woody Hayes anymore? Jeez Louise, this does not make sense on any level. Personally, I'm a "bottom line" kind of guy. If this guy plays better than that guy, play him! Bottom line. This antiquated type of ?reasoning? does not fly anymore. I wonder what he thought of USC's TRUE FRESHMAN center blowing Suh off the line 90% of the time. They better get to liking playing underclassmen, or they will be looking for yet another job. I think Callahan is smart enough to recognize where the problems lie. I hope he is smart enough to do something about it.
  11. My heart says Tommie, my head says Vince. I didn't get to see as much of Tommie as I did Vince, I lived in Houston when he was just a complete freak in high school. All I can say is Vince was/is magic. Tommie was the first player that came to mind when watching VY. Intangibles, instincts, leadership were about equal. Tommie was a magician his own self. Vince had a better arm, that's the difference. I can't emphasize enough what Vince meant to UT. After his wunderlich scores became public, I started calling him a Quarterback Savant. He might not be the brightest bulb in the house, but he knew how to win. As far as how he would have fared if he played for the Huskers, I think he would have attracted other blue chippers to come to NU, and he would have been just as successful. He would've opened a Texas pipeline to NU. Sadly, we'll never know.
  12. So you were so sure Nebraska would beat ISU by more than 21 points Saturday you bet $11 and lost. So now you are PO'd that you can't meet your trailer home rental due Monday? If you are going to call for a coaching change...offer who you believe would be a realistic replacement! I think the answer is a genetic mutation of TO and Bill Walsh So your saying....Scot Frost? Dennis Francione will be available soon.
  13. "I agree that we should be running a big back on third and short, but are you seriously complaining about 5 for 9 on third down. And why should we take away his big runs and his big game to compare him to other backs? Thats the whole reason we run Lucky, is for the long runs. What I want to know (and this isnt directed at you Hunter) is why everyone is bitching about everything? Even when a player is doing good, we still find ways to complain. He's leading the conference and is towards the top in yards per game in the country, and yet some still whine. What ever happened to supporting your team and players? Best fans in the country? If people come on this board they'll be second guessing that." I agree. I've never heard so complaining over 4-1. It hasn't always been pretty, but we've found ways to win. Bottom line is 4-1. I think we'll learn a lot after this weekend. I'm betting that the defense plays better. I think we'll get a few more stops than MU will, that's all it takes, a few timely stops. We'll see.
  14. Best line I've ever heard about Elton: "Vijay Singh has hit more balls than Sir Elton's chin, that is why he has the confidence to challenge Tiger." David Feherty. Great musician, But where would he be without Bernie Taupin? I think he does the lyrics. Tough call, but you can record the game.
  15. "They had a winning % of 56% before Mack Brown got their, he has NEVER won less than 9 games and never lost more than 4." How many games did Nebraska win last year? 9. We'll see where we end up this year. "And trust me if Mack Brown had Cally's record he would be fired." Well, he had Ricky Williams when he got here, it wasn't too difficult to figure out who to give the ball to. Cally had the savior Joe Dailey. "Their defense is much better than ours and they give up less than 4 yds per rush and they held their 2 toughest opponents to 251 and 277 yds on offense." Holding TCU and KSU to under 300 yds. I think when TCU is your toughest OOC game, you're setting yourself up for a unexpected smackdown. I know, I know.....Ball State. I thought they gave Michigan a scare last year? Not sure. Don't care. Nebraska won the game. I don't want to play "what if". We could do that for every game played. How many points did they give up to KSU? I'm not sure we need to get into a strength of schedule debate, I would think our S.O.S. is a little tougher. If you go defensive stats alone, you will need to consider opponents. I'm not saying our D is anywhere up to snuff(where ever snuff is, we're not there, yet) "He develops talent very well, and you can look at his NFL drafts to answer your own question." I'll give you that he finds talent very, very well. I'm definitely not sold on the whole development thing. I haven't noticed any huge improvement in his players from freshmen to seniors(if they stay that long). Vince was Vince. Cedric Benson almost regressed. Chris Simms didn't get any better. Frank Okam should be just destroying people, constantly. I don't see a lot of fire in that dude. I don't know, you haven't sold me the Mack is head and shoulders above Callahan. JMHO. "You guys are honestly drinking too much Kool Aid if you think we are a better team than TX." Please don't lump me in with "you guys". I never said that Nebraska was better than Texas. I just challenged the assumption that Mack and Co. were so much better than Callahan. I'm hoping that Callahan isn't so loyal to his DC that he won't make a change, if neccessary. Mack has kept Greg Davis(TX OC) for far too long, IMHO. "Also, if you look at my desire for NU football it's to win 10+ games a year and be in a BCS game every couple of years and a NC chase every 5 years, similar to OU and TX like we were promised by PUD......remember?" So Callahan won 9 games last year, 4-1 so far this year, we still don't have a clue as to what will happen the rest of this year, played in conference title game, and we're not at the halfway point of year 4. So you think he should get one more year after this one? I guess 10+ wins every year is reasonable in this day and age. How about 9+wins? Also, I love your opnion caveat. Your signature says a lot, also.
  16. "Texas has more talent, a better coach, more team speed, more athleticism they are bigger at almost every position....that is why they are a better team than NU. They are playing waaay below their talent level and we might be, might be, close to playing at the same level but they are a better team, without question. can we beat them YES, are we better than them HELL NO!"- I bleed Red OK. Let me get this straight. We are playing below our talent level, ergo we must fire our coach. Texas is playing "waaay" below their talent level and they have a better coach? If they have more talent, and playing very poorly(not to mention numerous arrests, indictments and yes, even convictions) why is Mack Brown so much better? He's had a lot of talent for a lot of years. How many Big12 Championships does he have? He won his first 2 years ago. 9 years- one conference championship and one National Championship. Have you ever heard of Vince Young? I hear tale that he was pretty good . Gene Chizik? I know that you are a current or former coach or something that makes you feel superior, so I know you've heard of him. He's not there anymore. Duane Aquina spent some time in AZ I believe. How would you, as an all knowing coach, rate his player development regarding position and tackling fundamentals? From my know nothing perspective, he's a least as bad as Cosgrove. One more thing, Texas has ZERO player leadership. I think they feel entitled to win every game. They do not have any heart. Colt McCoy was not in good shape in the 2nd half. Possible concussion, major one. He was puking on the sidelines, violently. Now, their true freshman back up is pretty good, can't throw very well(sorry Limas), but is strong and fast. Bigger and faster are advantages if you want them to be, these guys expect them to be, and do not hustle. We'll see. I think we can win out. We can also lose up to 3 more. It's too soon to predict accurately.
  17. Defense NEEDS to forget the everything that has happened and step up!
