Couldn't agree more.. I'm suprised everyone else is so suprised.. I guess I've not been nearly as impressed with the way the team has played as most on here. Sloppy, penalty ridden and turnover prone offense with an unproven injury plagued defense and a freshman QB making his first start of his career on the road.. Yeah, there's plenty of reason for concern.. I expect us to win. But it wouldn't suprise me in the least if it comes down to a final drive or stop in the 4th.

Same old garbage you always hear from a paper forced to cover the bottom dwellers of any conference. (Northwestern and Illinois) I've yet to read a paper from any bottom dwelling section of a conference praise the moves made by the people on top.

They all scare me after these first two. Iowa St. game proved last year that this/ that offense is more than capable of losing any game at anytime for us. Until I see reason to think otherwise, I'll be worried about every game. I said earlier that I wish we were rated in the mid teens preseason and were not being talked about as a NC caliber team. Our history of late doesn't predict a legit NC contender. Too much emphasis on the CC and our bowl glosses over many of the weaknesses that were apparent last season. I would prefer to start the season with press that we are a good team, in the top 15 or so and move up slowly. The players will be more hungry and respect every opponent much better if their eyes are not on a NC game in Sept. I recall Misery a couple years ago coming off a good end of season performance being highly rated and soon falling off the map. I don't remember their preseason ranking but it was too high and the scribes quickly found them over-rated and lost interest after they lost a game or two. While I am always hopeful of a very successful year, I don't think those pundits putting the big Red on a national. pedestal have thought this thru. No proven QB? Overall a very pedestrian offense. A hope that Crick will be as good as Suh and the other DT position will be as productive as Crick. Best LB graduaed and major disruptions due to injuries there. All of that will put much more pressure on the D backs than last year. While I think we will be good and if things go well can improve during the season, we have too many ?s to be a to 5 team right now. I think we will lose a couple during the regular season, maybe more and that will disappoint the pundits who put us in a NC mode and cause them to drop us farther in polls than deserved. My hopes for the final big 12 year 1 . Win the. north 2. Win or give a great account of ourselves in the CCG 3. Go to a good bowl and WIN, propelling the program on the upswing in our new coference. If the Yammerers are right and we end up with a NC I'll be thrilled, but if my take is accurate many of you have set yourself up to be bummed over a good season. Couldn't agree more. I am shocked by all this Championship, undefeated talk. I hope we do too, obviously, but cmon.. We're a team without a proven quality qb and a team that proved it can't pound the ball to compensate for it. And as much as I love the pep talk from Pelini, there is no way imo this defense is as good as last years. I'm expecting 3 losses this year. Will be excited with 2. Will be amazed if we lose 1. And will get a pollyana's rule my world tatoo if we win it all.

Sorry, I'm sure this has been talked about to death, but I'm just clueless when it comes to finding these things apparently. I've not seen anyone mention when the schedule actually changes. I'd assume we won't play the big 12 schedule next season, right? So will there be a new schedule released when this all gets sorted out?

I know the "classy" thing to do is wish him well and yada,yada.. But seriously, this really got me thinking that we're better off without the kid. I'm always annoyed by the kids who drag this out to the last minute to begin with (yes, including the ones who choose us) but imo, this kid was just enjoying the attention the entire time.. He reminds me of Tebow. Some kid that half the people think is just such a great kid, while the other half see through him and realize he's a media-whore.. I've never read or listened to so many interviews for a kid in my life. He's been everywhere.. On the pay sites they seem to speak with him daily and post his minute by minute thought process. He leaves obvious teasers out there like "I was just waiting for my mom to get on board with Nebraska, now she is) then suddenly needs more time.. I've read for months how leaving home was the only hold up.. He would tell anyone who listened how much he loves his mommy.. Out of nowhere Oregeon is suddenly gone from his top 3, and OSU is suddenly back in (could it be they stopped playing his game at oregeon?) and finally, after waiting till the last minute, of the last day, he chooses to leave his mom, and head to the media capital of the country. To go play for one of hte biggest media-hooker coaches in the country.. meh, good riddance.. If he decided to stay home, I would have "stayed classy" and wished him well.. Now, I'm just glad he's not part of our program and will be waiting for the day ucla comes to Lincoln.

My apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I don't have the time to read all of today's posts. Do coaches have a reason to keep their star players like Owa in-state? Don't they have relationships with the local college coaches? Wouldn't they occasionally want to pull a favor for a kid, and contact the local college coaches and tell them they have a kid that is being overlooked? I remember a few times in the past a highschool coach had called NU and told them they need to take a second look at a kid we weren't recruiting. It just seems to me the high school coach, while many may in fact have ONLY the best interest of their players at heart, also have reasons to push a kid to the local colleges. Perhaps the coach has an eye on moving into the college ranks (ala Jeffcoat and his dad as well as many others).. It just seems to me the kid was all but 100% sure until he talked t his coach, now he's undecided. Wouldn't suprise me at all if the coaches relationship with Oregeon is playing a factor in this.

So, when does he think Owa and cooper may commit? (kidding)

Yeah, I wonder about that too.. I wonder if the Bruins had such a rabid fan base as us, they wouldn't have a thread dedicated to Owa where everyone was convinced he'd be a Bruin. Sounds like the Bruin coaches and Owa left feeling really good about their visit too..

Hey, I'm a huge S.F. Giants fan. Grew up in the Bay area. I post alot on the giants message board under this same handle.. Anyways, I'm just sickened by my team's lack of understanding and using advanced metrics. We continue to try desperatley to upgrade run production with mediocore bats (Derrosa, huff etc.) and ignore run prevention. These guys will cost us runs in the field and make no significant impact to offset that at the plate.. When you have a rotation like ours, and a ballpark that caters to pitching, you need to maximize that advantage with defense. Sandoval needs to move to first, Uribe needs to replace Edgar and Posey MUST be the everyday starter. Add Bumgarner to the rotation and maybe, just maybe you can win the N.L. west or at least survive until a deal can be made for a legit bat during the season.. As is now, we're going to be lucky to repeat last years season.
