  1. It is interesting to note that the Husker defense played it's best game in many with Bowman's absense. Don't you think? Does that mean something?
  2. I think this is just another instance of why it will be a very good thing when these seniors--the last of the Solich/Pellini loyalists--graduate. Bowman was a captain, wasn't he? Ruud was too, right? So, where was the leadership on defense this year? I keep tellin' you, but nobody on this board seems to listen . . . there were some SERIOUS issues with this graduating class. No leadership from them AT ALL. I would encourage you folks to look there for some answers to this year's bizarre occurances.
  3. blah blah blah blah fire callahan blah blah the head coach lost the games blah blah blah bogasm blah blah blah blah bring back the option blah blah blah i don't like him very much blah blah ever since he dated my mother blah blah blah blah he needs to yell more blah blah . . .
  4. The day that I start listening to Jayhawk fans is the day that all taxes will be repealed . . . in other words, not a cold day in Hades. Don't get too cocky there, Jayhawk. Thou shalt return to thy cellar, in thy proper resting place, in good time.
  5. Yeah. I had to think long and hard about agreeing with freemason. Hey, why ya'll picking on me? LOL No, I just honestly believe that Callahan is a smart guy. I believe that the Huskers will stand a better chance if stability returns to the program. Face it . . . he has proven that he is a fine recruiter. Now he has to learn about the value of walkons in college football, as well as team leadership . . . and, of course, how to talk to the press. But I think he is a very smart guy, he knows his x's and o's, that he can learn from his mistakes, and that he can recruit what he needs. I think he can build a championship team over less time than Osborne took. And as for Pellini . . . at A&M, they are chuckling about NU fans' fixation for him. They have been saying that they are more than willing to let NU "make that mistake." For what it's worth.
  6. And no, Callahan does not have to go for this team to succeed. I think everyone should admit that the offensive changes installed for Ganz in two short weeks have been remarkable. Shades of the spread option, intermingled with tight I-formation power sets. Looked darned good to me. Sitting in the stands, you could really see the difference. This will be a different (and far more effective team) when the last of the Solich seniors graduate this year. I'll repeat this; just look at game films of #51 on defense, and you will get the picture.
  7. 1) Just because someone is a moderator or an admin doesn't mean they can't be opinionated. That idea is ludicrous and anyone who has that idea should probably wipe it from their brain immediately. 2) I think it's comical that you try to harp on newearth for having no "proof" but at the same time you are adament about this pact that Callahan and Mr. Keller had. Yea. That's rich. I don't think it takes a good eye to see that Keller IS more talented than Ganz. He has the ABILITY to make certain throws consistently that Ganz can't. Now, does that mean that Keller completed every throw? No, he has off days just like Ganz did against KU ( overthrows, underthrows, etc etc.) The fact of the matter is that this pipe dream that Callahan promised Keller the job is just that, a pipe dream. Essentially unprovable. While there are actual facts that show why Keller might be a better passer than Ganz. I think that it is true that Keller MAY be, technically speaking, a better passer than Ganz. This is what I think makes the difference, though: Keller, as well as many of the juco players, may be seen as carpetbaggers by the 4- and 5-year players on the team. As hard as Keller took the losses, I really don't think the team ever accepted him as a leader. He wasn't seen as a real Husker. The offensive line really has picked it up a couple of notches under Ganz. They actually seem willing to go to battle for him, and that is the difference. And that response echoes through the entire team. And, coaches might not have had any idea of this until Keller was injured. Remember, these coaches came from the world of professional athletes, and all of those athletes performed at a peak level at all times. They were in it for money. College athletes have more on their minds. I would also like to remind fans that although NU has six losses, four of them came against teams that were (or are) in the Top Ten nationally. The other two losses were against teams that have looked very good at times. Ganz is simply a better Husker QB because he is a freshman-to-senior guy. He knows the players, he has lived with them, and they know him. Better team chemistry. That's my take, anyway.
  8. Huh. It seems that the original premise--which I thought was excellent, because Coach Callahan is very likely to remain as head coach--has been largely disregarded by the Fire The Coach crowd. That is a shame, because I have wondered the same thing myself. Remember, the most popular guy on the team is always the second team quarterback. The least popular? The head coach, of course.
  9. Sports writers are usually journalism students that graduate at the bottoms of their classes.
  10. Yeah being glad that a kid got hurt. What a MORONIC thing to say. :asshat There is no shortage of morons here.
  11. Uh, he's not leaving. Get used to it. Toxic message boards like this mean nothing at all to those in the program and administration.
  12. HELLOOOOOO!!!! This is a FOOTBALL FORUM!!! Dude, get a clue! If you want to talk about family issues, GO HERE. In this forum we focus on the job he's done as a coach, and he's done an exceedingly sh#tty job of it here. If you're here to defend how he coaches, expect to get flamed. If you want to talk about how his family has been treated... use the link. I didn't start the thread buddy. It wasn't about football when it started so why do I have to make it about football now??!! This thread isn't about his family, yet you're bringing that up, buddy. This thread IS about what Bill Callahan did AT THE FOOTBALL GAME, however. See how that works? Family stuff belongs on family forums. Football stuff belongs here. Get it straight. The thread is about WHY he did what he did! It was NOT started to talk about football! Read the first post and topic. It has NOTHING to do with FOOTBALL, so until the MODS move this thread to a "family Forum" i'm posting it here in the thread that IS RELEVANT. And I'm telling you WHY he did what he did and THAT involves the treatment of others. It IS relevent because people wanted to know WHY he didn't acknowledge the fans. THAT is what the thread is about and I have stuck on the topic and given my reasons WHY he didn't acknowledge them. Maybe he just ignores squeaky wheels. I should probably do that, too. His first allegiance is to his players. I'm fairly certain that you and your ilk are far, far down the list of his concerns. I hope that doesn't hurt your feelings. Here's a FACT . . . switch coaches, and you will have a certain number of PO'd players on the team over the next 4 years . . . and some may undermine the team as much as #51 has all season. Check out the films, watch him, and get back to me.
  13. IBR has been wrong 4 out of 5 times. He's just another toxic windbag.
  14. I haven't seen anyone forgiving or forgetting Why should we? What in the world makes you think Callahan is the least bit remorseful for what he's done to this program? Just because he says he is? Are you daft? Let me put it this way - I could tell you that I'm the IRS. Are you going to pay me your tax money from now on? Where is your head? What if TO keeps him? where will your head be? There is no way on Gods green earth that TO keeps Callahan! Get used to the idea. He's not going anywhere. Osborne operates on a much higher level that you.
  15. If we win next week, I do think we'll be invited because we travel well. I have no idea which bowl we would be invited to. I certainly hope this does not save Callahan's job. Even if we win next week and win a bowl game, I'm afraid that next season we would be back in the same spot. Plus, after all the program has been through this season, we would look like idiots to bring back Callahan. And, does anyone really believe Callahan will change? Will he suddenly show fire and motivate players? Will he embrace NU history? No! He has had four years to change and nothing has happened. I do believe that some of you would rather see Nebraska lose than have Coach Callahan keep his job. That's sad, and it says volumes about your character.
  16. Good lord. With continued crap like this, and if you consider yourself a "fan," I can see why he would send a big F-U your way. Quite honestly, he isn't a media whore. He has always avoided the media, and he is pretty private as a whole. He is just trying to do his job.
  17. I just cannot stress enough how much I disagree with the underlined parts. Either you don't follow college football much or you're simply looking for a reason to like these coaches. I fail to comprehend how anyone can look at the body of work Tom Osborne put together - along with his coaching staff - and think that coaches have no effect on wins and losses. There was a 20-year stretch where Nebraska didn't crack the top ten in recruiting classes more than twice. Most Husker Fans grew up ignoring the recruiting rankings because they meant so little to our success year in and year out. T.O. would take decent-to-average players and, through his own personal brand of excellence in coaching ability, would make these kids top players. It didn't happen once, it didn't happen a few times.... it happened every single year he was running the ship. The kids we put on the field were NOT highly regarded. They were NOT sought-out players for the most part. They were kids with guts and determination and will. The coaches molded those raw materials into some really great players. They then took those great players and made them into excellent teams. Man, there were dozens of games - literally - where we demolished our opponents not because we had greater athletes or because we got lucky, it was because our coaches instilled a winning attitude in our players, and with that training, with those attitudes, they could not lose. Absolving a coaching staff from the debacle we see before us this season is simply one of the most myopic things I've ever heard of. I'm not about to get in a pissing match with you, but I do know what I'm talking about; furthermore, there is JUST NO WAY that you can compare the post-Osborne teams with the era of the 90's. Tenure of staff and players is far different, as is the caliber and parity of other college programs. Remember that Osborne's teams usually won when they were supposed to, and they lost when they were expected to. I remember it pretty clearly, and that's why Coach O was looking for work in the late-70's and early 80's. I was one of those that were saying that he should go. I was an idiot, but that whole thing taught me a lot. How long did it take Coach O to find just the right formula for success? Over 20 years. In addtion, I'm certain that even you would have to admit that there is something very strange going on with the defense this year. We don't know it yet, and it is likely that we will never know for certain . . . but you can bet that it revolves around 4-5 players.
  18. The key point there is "exact same players." In Oklahoma, Stoops did not come in with a bare cupboard. The previous staff did a good job of recruiting, and Stoops was lucky enough to get them after a couple of years' experience. That made the difference, not Stoops.
  19. There are few Callahan supporters on this board because they are attacked in the same way Callahan is, so they just don't post. I don't think that this board is a true representation of how all Husker fans feel. T.O. is an honorable man, and he may see a glimpse of that in Callahan because he doesn't turn tail and run from all of the criticism. I'd like to see a little slack in the posts that just say the same thing over and over. Let T.O do his job the way he sees fit, there's not much we can do about it anyway. Then again, I may be wrong. That's me. I don't post often because this seems like a gathering spot for coach hatred. I'm not on board, because--strictly speaking--coaches do not lose games. Players lose games. There are some on this board that actually blame the coaches for players' attitudes, but I can tell you that the fans and media have a greater effect on the players' attitudes as a whole. I trust Osborne, either way. I don't pretend to know enough about this year's issues to offer any advice. I do know, however, that there is something happening on that team that transcends coaching--and it originates from defensive personnel. That much is apparent.
  20. Are you insane? I understand that there may be some character issues there.
  21. If the play would have worked, it would have been a brilliant call. That's football.
  22. If Rome didn't rant, nobody would pay any attention to him. He's the sportscaster version of Glenn Beck, with about the same level of intelligence and ethics.
  23. Yet another original thought, and another reason why we need a "I Hate Callahan/Cosgrove/Rose" thread for those that feel the need.
