  1. Absolutely! Meyers was fundamental in bringing the BIG bucks to the U! Losing him was like losing money in the bank!
  2. AMEN TO THAT!!!! Saddlemeyer and Pavelka really knew the players! That was important to me! It made me feel like I knew who I was cheering on. The biggest thing for me was whether we were winning or losing those two had something positive to say about the players. I would love to hear Pavelka's take on the Huskers as they are playing now. I'm sure even though we're in the toilet he would have something positive to say. BRING BACK PAVELKA!!!!
  3. Back in the day when Pavelka used to announce he would tell you where the team member went to high school, knew his hometown, actually knew things about the kid. I've not heard that from Rose. I'd be interested how you came to this conclusion.
  4. I can't stand Jim Rose. You can't tell if he's announcing for Nebraska or the other team. He doesn't know the team members well enough to give you any background on them like Kent Pavelka did. Maybe since Osborne is back we can get Pavelka back. I listened to Lyle Bremser until he passed the mike on to Kent. Those were great times! Rose talks to much about other things. Adrian Feala does a better job of color commentating than Rose does. BRING BACK PAVELKA!!!
  5. ROFLOL! Actually they did!!! There was a post in their Head Coach thread that listed those names and others!
  6. That's a crock! All you had to do was watch who had the big headset on. THAT was the person calling the plays and the first half was Shawn Watson. That's why we were winning. I don't care who said to the contrary, we all know that when Callahan starts calling the plays we lose. TLS2
  7. I'm sure you're right. I was on the Aggies Message Board this morning and they have as many rumors as to who will replace their Head Coach as we do! Like I said in another post, it will be interesting to see how this all pans out across the nation.
  8. Sorry buddy but you're 'source' is full of it. The Aggies want Butch Davis. Pelini was only ever on their short list. In fact, someone on their board who lives in Lincoln (NE) said that Bo had been up here visiting with Osborne (this was a rumor...Pelini wasn't here last weekend according to Steve Sipple Lincoln Journal Star) so we could take him off the Aggies list. Unless you can list your source....troll on off the board...we have enough rumor-headaches without your added fodder.
  9. I went over to the Texas A & M message board (have to be a member to even read the board!) and here are some names they are throwing around for their next head coach. Sound familiar: Mike Ditka Tommy Tuberville Bo Pelini Butch Davis Gary Kubiak Will Muschamp Jim Leavitt Jeff Tedford Steve Spurrier Craig Bohl Charlie Strong Bobby Petrino Cowher? Art Briles Their favorites seem to be Butch Davis then Tommy Tuberville. Someone who is an Aggie fan but lives in Lincoln (NE) said that Bo Pelini had been up here last weekend to talk to Tom Osborne so they could take Pelini off their list. This whole thing just cracks me up! It's happening all over the place not just here. They even had a thread on their board that said, 'Will Fran resign tonight?' LOL Too funny! It will be interesting to see how it all plays out both here in NE and at the other universities that are looking for new HC's. It's like a soap opera! "Tune in tomorrow as we await the fate of (insert university name) head coaching positions for the 2008-2009 football season!" ROFLOL!
  10. Read this on wowt.com this morning: http://www.wowt.com/sports/headlines/10902511.html *If the link doesn't work go to wowt.com to the sports section and you'll find the actual article.
  11. Would we want to base an opinion of Turner's ability as a position coach on what he did when he was at NU. How long ago was that? He's had lots of different experiences and learned so much since then. Perhaps it might be more realistic to base an opinion on what Turner is doing now, what he has done in the past two years at Buffalo. ? TLS2 I disagree as to Turner Gill. Turner is clearly a great man of character. But, when he was a position coach at NU he was, frankly, unimpressive. Poor technique plagued his players and little to no improvement was seen over time.
  12. Yesterday on 1620 the Zone, Steve Sipple was on and they asked him if Osborne had contacted Pelini or if Pelini had been to Lincoln, Sipp said, 'No, Bo has not been here. Why should he come here? He knows the lay of the land.' Had Osborne talked to Bo, 'Sipp said, 'As of Friday (last Friday) no one had talked to Pelini. I think we're all going to be very surprised when and if Osborne picks a new coach. It might be difficult if Callahan & Co. win their next three games and a bowl game...could be interesting.... TLS2
  13. Turner gets my vote as well. Nice post...welcome to the board.
  14. I think another reason people are so high on Gill is because of the man he is. He knows football and he's doing a nice job of bringing back the Buffalo team but being a head coach of a football team is more than just football! He is a natural motivator, an excellent recruiter, but more importantly, a great man of character that will also look after the character of the boys he's coaching. He's just a polished individual that would do the NU program proud. He's not going to go at it alone. Osborne will be there to guide him. I think that a strong young man like him (like Osborne was) could get it done. Look outside the box. The X's and O's aren't all that's important in college football. TLS2
  15. In the Omaha World Herald this morning they had mini bios of 8 coaches that the writer considered 'hot'. Here is a link to the article: http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1200...;u_sid=10169558 If this link doesn't get you there try this one and click on the article link. http://www.omaha.com The names given (in case you don't want to read the article) were: *Bo Pelini *Greg Schiano *Jim Grobe *Jim Leavitt *Gary Patterson *Paul Johnson *Will Muschamp *Brian Kelly There was also an article by Lee Barfknecht entitled "Gill's tenure at Buffalo temporary? Here's the link to that article: http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1200...;u_sid=10169565 It will be interesting if any of the above and/or Turner will be selected and even IF a selection will be made based on play in the next three games. If the Huskers play with the same intensitiy and drive they played with for the next 3 games and win those next games thus allowing them into a Bowl Game and they win the bowl game, perhaps there will be no change??

In the World Herald this morning it said that Keller bypassed the media and went straight into the arms of his family & friends. Sam Keller cried. It makes one think that Sam knows he hurt pretty bad and that perhaps his season is over. HOWEVER! He didn't hurt his passing arm, it was the left arm. It really depends on what was broken. If it was his collarbone then ouch..he's probably done. But if just a pulled ligament or muscle sprain of some sort maybe he'll be back after a rest? Get well soon Sammy! TLS2
  17. I was very proud of our guys today as well but this was one game. What will happen next week? We play Kansas at Lawrence. If our boys play as tough as they did today for the rest of the season then I will be confused as to what our next move will be coaching wise. However, I think the writing is on the wall. TLS2
  18. I read recently that back in the day no one had to say anything about Nebraska being the 'best fans' in college sports...they just were. That's the kind of fan base I want to see again. One that is great just because they are....not because they have to prove they are. TLS2
  19. All you have to do is look who is wearing the 'big' headphones. When Watson was calling the plays he was wearing those headphones and talking into the microphone. The tv camera would often pan him. But when the second half started you only saw Callahan doing so. They showed Watson maybe once and he had on a smaller headset. TLS2

    Effort

If you're this upset when we only lose by 3 points (granted I'm disappointed too! We had the game won and the minute Callahan put the 'offensive headphones' back on we started losing) I wonder what your reaction would've been had we been blown out 45-10 or something like that. Good Grief Man!! We were competitive for the first time this year! We got a glimpse of our future and after we clean 'coaching house' we're going to be back! I for one can't wait. Here's to the Future! TLS2
  21. I dont' know about anyone else but during the first half and part of the third quarter we saw some real, tough Nebraska football. It was exciting to watch our new kiddos take it to the Longhorns. Just think what it will be like next year when we get a new coach! I'm sorry but Callahan made a huge mistake in taking the play calling back during the second half. As long as Shawn Watson was calling the plays our offense was making gains. It seemed like the minute Callahan took over we started to self destruct. Anyway, it was exciting for awhile and who knows....maybe we can take this same energy to next week's game and actually win. Bowl Game still in our future?? Could be! TLS2
  22. On the contrary, I think it's very relevant in this area. Knowing the game of football isn't the only qualification for a Head Coach. Personality, ability to deal with people, ability to motivate players are all part of the job. If we could find someone who had the personality skills that Doc Sadler has we would have one heck of a coach! TLS2 BS Forum. Good hire, irrelevant in this area.
  23. we could find a coach similar to our Doc Sadler (NU basketball coach)? I don't know about you guys but I like his style. I was listening to KFAB before one of our football games a couple of weeks ago and the boys were interviewing Doc. He came across so positive, funny and he seems to know his stuff. He's personable and has a humility that is really attractive. What a catch for us. If we could find someone like that to be our head foot ball coach, there would be 'alot of healin' going on' around here. TLS2
  24. I heard this on 1620-The Zone as well. Those guys are pretty accurate so we'll see if this pans out. It would be great if it did for both sides.
