  1. Actually, I stayed at the Crossroads Inn in Martin and it was VERY nice, nothing fancy, but very clean, oh, and very courteous staff... I ate a good burger (not like Chase ate, either...) at a little cafe there where I was treated very well. I'll tell you, I've been treated MUCH WORSE in bigger communities, Martin was good to me... I was only there overnight, I'm easy to please I guess... Now, GO BIG RED!!!!
  2. OK, I watched the NU vs MU game Thursday night... In a motel room. In Martin, South Dakota. Alone. Sober. Gut wrenching, swear filled, disappointed, elated... Yeah, I had it ALL. Here's the best thing I can see out of this game. Hey, we won. It's a 'w'. More importantly, we CAME BACK from a deficit and we won. Our D is pretty good and Suh and Crick really deserve the finest meats and cheeses. I was impressed that the D kept after it in that game for as long as they did. THAT is 'fire' in your coaching, but more importantly, that is CONDITIONING on the individual players part. THAT takes some dedication and belief. Them boys on DEFENSE are tough and strong. Offense? I don't wanna toss 'em under any bus, I think Zac Lee lead very well and stepped up. I think, for the next game the O line needs more fire. I think they're athletic enough, strong enuff and smart enuff. Where I'm concerned is I think they need rabies. Know what I mean? Now granted the NU teams of the 90's were pretty dominating overall and I think that competition breeds that 'fire' in your players, but what was it that made the teams of the 90's play like they were literally ON FIRE...? My LORD, watch some clips of those teams from back then.... Watch those Peters boys on defense, my GAWD, they look like RAPID ROTTWEILERS before, during and after every play!!! Granted, D line and O line are different animals, but what if our O line started playing like RABID PIT BULLS to create those holes we need to establish the rush, to open things up...? I think our team is only about 2-3 dedicated players away from being REALLY powerful. You put one more SUH in that defense and add one or two more playmakers on the O line, and we break OUT big time. This is my point; (yes, I actually have one!): The BEST thing we have to show out of our last game is that it showed our team that they CAN OVERCOME. EVEN when behind in a game, they CAN come back. Now, NU used to be kind of famous for being known as a '4th quarter team' (which I always equated to strength conditioning and belief in yourself and your system)... I think we've got that back! I watched Zac Lee and his 'crazy eyes' in that game. I think he is a thinner, offensive version of Jason Peter. It appears he's got 'the fire'. He plays a little rabid. I like that. He takes a good hit, bounces back up and he is 'PUMPED'! You watch, I'll bet we get some 'break out' players show up in our offense this next game... I don't know if we can smoke Tech, but at the end of four, I hope they KNOW they have played a football game. I'm not taking anything away from MU, and no way am I overlooking Texas Tech, but I think that last game may have taught our guys how to 'lead' in a football contest. GO BIG RED!!! I predict: NU 117, Tech: 3
  3. I am definitely not the spelling police, but this made me laugh: corgual CORDIAL and GIDDY... I AM the spelling police. Even tho I misspell stuff all the time... Sorry.
  4. I noticed that Saiga in your dove-icide photo... I've allllllmost bought one in .410 a time or two, just 'cause. That's cool, I like to hunt with 'odd' or non-traditional guns. For years now I've only hunted upland game and doves with my mighty 870 .410. The 870 certainly isn't odd or different, but the gauge is... It's different, I hit good with it and if my shots are within 25 yards I drop birds... So, seeing the saiga out there is kinda neat. Oh, I cheated this weekend and used my synthetic express 12 gauge to end the rampage of a greenhead that jumped off a drainage pond and was coming for my jugular, so nothing 'cool or unusual' about THAT gun, but sometimes I get lazy I guess...
  5. I put an AR together a while back, but ya know... I hate AR's! They're accurate (or can be I should say), they're kinda cool looking in a SWAT or tactical kinda way, but... So, I sold it, made a couple hundered bucks and called it good. Me, I'm an old gun kind a guy... Remington 81's, Ithaca 37's, old stuff... HOWEVER, my 223 is a new Stevens 200 (super cheap but pretty accurate and the value isn't hurt after it gets banged around!) with a Nikon prostaff 3X9. It'll kill prarie dogs, but you gotta head shoot em !
  6. Love that BUG EATERS shirt! Kinda glad we changed our name tho... My dove season sucked like a funnel cloud in Kansas... I hunted hard for a week then gave up, I'll bet I didn't see 20 birds in that week. Maybe I was too late, maybe I was too early... Now I'm sightin' in my .223 for duck season. (Just kidding).
  7. "Root for Mizzou"... I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Sorry. Ok, OK, I USUALLY root for Big 12 teams straight across the board, and yes, even Mizzou, if I am forced to watch their game. God, why has it come down to this... whyyyyy???? I'm still REELING from our loss to Iowa State in 1992... (and there's only ONE game a year I don't root for Iowa State)...
  8. Saw a couple of posts that seemed less than flattering regarding Eric Crouch's attempt at an NFL career, but as I recall, didn't he step up to plate when he recognized he didn't want to 'play' anymore, give all his contract money back and be nothing less than honorable? Good Lord guys, you're making him out to be the DEBIL because he got into the NFL and decided, "Hmmmmm, my back, knees, shoulders and neck already HURT from 5 years playing in college, I think I'll quit while I'm still able to walk...". I kinda remember people praising his ability to recognize he may not be 'elite' enough for an NFL career and for honorably bowing out of his contracts.
  9. Yeah, you'll have fun. My brother and I are 'old folks' now (I'm 45, he's 50) and after 40 (yes FORTY) years of bleeding red, we both finally scraped up some money AND time and made a game last year. Once we sat down we wished we were 40 pounds LIGHTER each because them seats are VERY NARROW! GREAT experience, GREAT game and COOL to finally experience Memorial stadium, it was VERY red, VERY loud and husker-esque! You will love it!!! We almost had to knock out a drunk fan that was butting into our conversation, but he was drunk... we were in a good huskery mood, and it all went fine after he left. On his own. I swear... ENJOY the game!!!! GBR...
  10. That would be cool, I think Joe can offer some insight to these players about determination AND sitting on the bench waiting OH SO PATIENTLY for like 300 years while your head coach walks by you - then coming out like a MAN ON FIRE with your skills. That kid was a helluva QB for us, I wish we could of had him be the main man a year earlier... Plus, he's got those groovy 70's styling side burns. I think if hired, he should go with mutton-chops and flair leg pants for his sideline attire, but maybe that's just me... GOOD LUCK Ganz, hope you get on board!
  11. some very questionable penalties were being called towards the end... Yeah, someone said it best when they said, "That was a pretty good game until the zebra's got involved..."
  12. I was rooting for Clemson last night over Corona's and brat's (not ornery kids, polish sausage) and to see them let that game piddle away like that at the end just SUCKED FAT HOG $%^&'s! MAN! GOD I was mad! There, I said it...
  13. Burkhead is gonna get a looooot of focus from other teams this year, I only got to listen to the game on the 'fade' of an old AM radio, BUT, that kid seems to move pretty well. Now, I haven't seen him, but I think he needs to grow him some big old muttonchop sideburns like that 70's stylin' GANZ was groovin' with last year, and he will BECOME THE MAN! And how about that god dang Zac Lee? I was impressed with his first game! Sounded very accurate and mobile... Good combination for us!
  14. Dudes... I'm not a CU fan (I live here but I fly Red all the time!), I am a husker fan thru and thru... Tell you what tho, I doubt you will see CU look this ragged again all year and you can dang near bet your paychecks on that when they play US! Bash 'em if you want, I know I despise them... BUT, I doubt you will see another lackluster performance out of them this year. I predict we'll beat them this year in Boulder, but they WILL come alive... I think maybe it's the zombie water they live on up in them thar hills... GO BIG RED!
  15. We got some SC and SSC people on the board man, Welcome to the Jungle!!! T_O_B Yes, I can stilllll remember the beautiful aroma of those packing plants along the river... gorf! I do miss the 78 pound squirrels we had out by Brown's lake and pheasant hunting in our BACKYARD practically! South Sioux was often visited via the combination bridge and good old Floyd's monument was a fun place to almost fall to your death from! Ah, my memories as a kid and CORNHUSKER football!!!!
  16. How many dozen did you kill? I have gone the past few years, but not today because of lots of work to do. My big thing is duck season. Yeaaahhh.... THAT blew...! I didn't see TEN birds all evening. Warned two of them as they blew by about 89 mph and then listened to rooster pheasants flushing for awhile, but dove hunting was THIN. Grrrr....!
  17. Yes, agreed... Tonite is the night... Dirty filthy weather has NOT been conducive however! Woke up this am to find 53 degrees, clouds / fog. Doves don't like clouds and fog. Global warming my aching RUMP!!! Yet, I shall fire up the '54 and go out and try anyway. My new 'dove-bucket' is built, my reloaded 3 inch 410's are stacked and I am READY!
  18. Kolorado, starting in Sioux City, Ia., thru Crawford Neb., then Black Hills South Dak., then Kansas, then Wyoming(?), then many many spots in Kansas again, then plop, like a big ol' puddle of bull-flop, right to Kolorado...
  19. yep, August 27th... 4+ more days until the battle begins. As if directed by PETA, the cool evenings and night time showers (personally, I shower in the morning...) that continue to dribble across the eastern plains of K-olorado are causing the birds to bunch up and prepare to migrate on. So, what will this season bring us...? Will I be surrounded by bird carcasses each evening as I take to the fields to rid the skies of this grey menace, this ferocious predator of humility, this...this...this, dare I say it(?), this winged meal? OR, will it be total SUCKAGE and all the birds will have moved on by the time the season begins? Ahhhh, I lust for the baking hot afternoon dropping sun to bring me the gnashing beaks, flashing eyes and flexing talons of these creatures I seek. The mighty wingmaster .410 is oiled and coiled..., the vest is still dusty and blood stained from last years adventures..., the old truck is resting, waiting patiently for a kick to it's foot starter and a light grind into 2nd. Dove season is ALMOST upon us and as I prepare my portable radio with batteries and ensure that the antennae is still intact (for listening to the Huskers on Saturdays while out in the field... and no, it's NOT a good 'dove call', but it's necessary) I am readying myself for the battle royale. Wish me luck sirs... wish...me...luck!
  20. Yeah, I didn't REAAAALLLLY think he was 7 foot and 4 foot across the shoulders... Nor did I think he was TRULY a MOUNTAIN of a man, I didn't see any trees or rocks falling from him and I didn't notice any streams, flora, fauna or wildlife on him... I was exaggerating, but he was a WHALE of lot bigger (and no, he didn't have a blow-hole or barnacles that I could see) in person than he appeared on my 13 inch TV in my tiny little shack (tiny and shack NOT being exaggerations) I was inhabiting at that time while the life blood was being sucked from me financially via child support (no, not literally being sucked out of my veins by a vacuum operated device). But that kid was pretty big...
  21. Geez, I can feel this guy's pain I guess... One time, I was in Chadron (yes, the Garden of Eden) getting drunk in a bar and CU was playing us on the 'not so big screen' in this bar and two girls from Colorado came in and were badmouthing Nebraska football. I was drunk, so I sort of lamblasted their efforts at riling the crowd and we had quite a sparring contest going and I realized: Hey, I'm drunk... and impassioned with my team... but REALLY I'm kinda sounding like a DOUCHEBAG (summer's eve brand as I recall now) so I apologized and stopped. I know how it feels to get wound up tighter'n a pitbull on meth about Nebraska football, so I read this guy's rant and I think: Dude. You are a fan, enjoy the rivalry and get over it. That's all really...
  22. This isn't totally related, but reading these posts made me remember... I was working as a cop in Goodland Ks., during Brook Berringer's playing years for Nebraska and I remember seeing him on TV and thinking, "Man, that kid is so thin, I wonder HOW he holds up...?" Well, one day in I saw him walking up to one of his friend's parent's home (in fact it was the friend that he later was killed with in that tragic crash) and I literally did a double take. That 'thin kid' was like a MOUNTAIN of a man! My LORD it looked like he had 4 foot wide shoulders and was 7 feet tall! It was then I truly began to appreciate the POWER OF THE CORN! I remember that season and how he helped carry that team, inspiring young man. GBR...
  23. Yeah, I thought maybe Suh had decided to go 'bowling' early when he rolled Hawkins like a CHEAP CIGAR after that ROCKING tip and interception!!!! THAT was classy and CLASSIC! That kid is a PLAYER (and I don't mean that in the urban sense)!!! GO SUH! gobigred...!
  24. Some folks still kinda hangin' on to that 'issue', but it suuuurrrrre looked to me Like BO gained some 'insight' on TV coverage. Oh, I think he's still fire and brimstone, but sometimes (in our WUNNERFUL world of P.C. baloney-ism) it's not HOW you fight the battle, but how you LOOK fighting the battle. He's learning to turn AWAY from the camera during his vein popping, teeth gnashing, "I'm gonna eat a live baby" modes. He's still a young, fired up coach and a 'call it as you see it' kinda man, which is PERFECT for this and the upcoming teams. You watch, he'll get it under control better and better... NO-ONE pulled off -STOIC- like Tom Osborn. No-one...
  25. Look, how many times do I have to say this? GANZ for president 2012! I think this 70's sideburn wearing pigskin flickin' playmaker is the most under rated AND for several years (THANK YOU 'coach' Callicouldn't, dork!) UNDER USED key player for our team. I just think of what COULD HAVE been with this kid at the helm and it makes me throw up a little in my mouth... Nothing against Sam Keller but Joe's ability to adjust under fire is so much more prolific (NICE that we didn't get to SEE THAT until the END of last year and this year...). GANZ / SWIFT 2012!!!
