Im okay with him still running the offense, but he needs a number he trusts to be able to manage the defense/game when he cant.

    Lots of coaches do that.

If our O was remotely as productive as UCF's was I would agree with you. The trade-off would be worth it. As-is I'd rather give somebody else like Helfrich the keys to the O and have Frost addressing all phases of the game and our processes in general.

Giving them credit for fixing snaps hightlights how bad and inept the staff is.  It took them 2.5 years to make a simple adjustment?

Rutgers is a perfect example of bad timeout is usage. They go for two and our defense isnt close to lined up. We don't call a timeout because as frost said "i was busy getting the next offensive series ready"

It's been obvious that Frost doesn't know a lot about what's going-on with the D and ST's because the O takes-up so much of his focus. This was a prime example. Meanwhile our O's production has dropped markedly for the second season in a row.  Frost needs to replace Mario with a quality OC/qb-coach then back-off into more of a GM role where he addresses the team as a whole. We also need a legit ST's coordinator.

Just saw that.  Looks like Sarkisian to Texas....Was listening and the Game Day crew said that rumors were it was Herman's way or the highway. That he didn't relate to the kids....Desmond Howard then mentioned a guy like Sark and Allen at Indiana relate to the kids....

We could also offer Wilson from OSU millions to come as OC:lol:

If they canned Herman just to bring in Sarkisian they are morons. Lots of guys would succeed with Bama's immense talent. He was meh as a HC at Wash and USC. Feels like us replacing Bo with Riley. Allen would be a great get.

I agree with alot of this.

I think he was a pass rusher a way from having a good defense.

I know chin gets a lot of flak, but he has been a lot more impressive then frost

I'm not completely sold on Chin, still frustrates me at times, but his unit has improved each season. If you could say the same for the O and ST's we'd have been at least 6-2 and confident about the future.  Hell the O has been lower ranked with each season while having the same issue of being ranked much higher in yards than scoring. ST's were still crap outside of kicker that was developed and started at LSU. If we don't make real moves to fix the O and ST's I have very little faith in Frost turning this around. Defense I can accept "staying the course" on.

Imo, this staff said that they don't correct errors in practice. They want to go fast in practice and make the corrections in the meeting room.

I think the staff needs to rethink their handling of errors committed by their players.

Just because we've had three seasons of being error-prone you think we should change how we address errors? Seems like a knee-jerk reaction to me.

Frost is the CEO of this staff and it's ultimately up to him to decide which assistants give the team the best chance to win.  Thus far he has not shown a great willingness to part ways with his staff, and the exit of Walters appears to have been mutual.  If Frost truly feels he has several more years as HC regardless if the team continues to underperform, he will be inclined to keep most if not all of the current staff.  However, if he is feeling some pressure from Moos, Green or Carter to show substantial improvement in year 4, he may be willing to rock the boat and make some broader changes.

I agree with many of the posters that we have seen some marginal improvements on defense over the past 3 years, while the offense and special teams have really struggled.  With that said, I am not sure we should be seeking even just marginal improvements when the baseline we are improving from is so low.  Instead, we need to be swinging for the fences with assistants and finding coordinators that can help give NU the best offense, defense, and special teams in the BIG West division.  To be truly competitive on the national stage you really need top guys in all 3 phases of the game.

If Frost is protecting his buddies because he feels he has all the time in the world for things to work-out then he isn't the right guy for the job, and neither is Moos for giving him that idea. He took the big money job, that comes with having to be brutally honest about where improvements can be made and making tough choices. I'd be fine with replacing Chin with a top DC but I can accept giving him more time to keep on progressing. Our St's have sucked all three seasons. Our O has digressed since year-one, we double our wins this season with the year-one O. We are still an error-prone team. Those things absolutely have to be addressed

I honestly think AM's problems are the QB whisperer......

His spot should be taken by an OC/qb-coach that could liven-up the O while allowing Frost to become much more involved-in and knowledgeable-of the team as a whole. Hell we'd even be better-off giving Frost the qb's and replacing Mario with a good ST's coordinator. We have better use of the his position than a guy that just coaches qb's and does a meh job of it.

This is the top thing I am looking for this offseason.  Not only a dedicated coach to focus on ST, but someone who can adjust and actually talk to the players during games since Frost so far only cares about the offense in game.  Most of the one score losses are hugely influenced by special teams.

IMO Frost has to replace Mario with an OC/qb-coach and cede control over the offense so he can focus much more on the team as a whole. Having Frost so focused on the O worked at UCF because the UCF's O was awesome. Our O and qb-position need help. This and a quality on-field ST's coordinator need to happen.

    (1) we have no special teams. Our special teams is a bunch of guys running around clueless without any plan but try to give the other team every possible advantage. From now on, Nebraska should call this “incompetent teams” instead of special teams. I can honestly say that I have never seen anything so unspecial at any level of football.

    (2) the first half was one of the worst and most boring halves of football ever

    (3) Didrich, Wandale, and AM won this game for us and the defense kept us in the game

    (4) why wasn’t Diedrich Mills used more often this season when he was healthy?
    (5) the swing pass needs to be retired forever...I want to bury that play and give it a proper funeral. It is the worst play ever.

    (6) until Swing Pass Frost finds a way to fix the undisciplined play, penalties, and turnovers in every game, he will never be successful at Nebraska

    (7) we are capable of scoring more than 7 points in the second half...thought that was impossible

    (8) we are the thirteenth best team in the conference but number one in turnovers

    (9) with this magnificent win, toilet bowl here we come

If we try to go into another season with a freaking analyst running ST's Frost should be fired on principle. We need a quality on-field coach putting quality time into ST's

Actually we are in like 9th place in the con. Since teams played a different number of games it's not really exact. If we had managed 4-4 we'd have been fifth(or kinda tied for it with 3-3 Wiscy).

    Running works

    ST is horrible

    Got some young talent

D is the reason for the wins this season

I'd like to see some of the seniors return

I'd like for some of the staff to not return

Great game.  Hard as hell to over come 4 TO's.....Wow

And that stat the @Mavricposted above, I hope Frost knows that an O capable of making ling drives is just as potent as chunk plays

Frost thought he could keep all his boys happy and get off cheap just hiring an analyst to run ST's. That was a horrible idea that has to be fixed. We need a quality on-field coach running ST's.

I'm excited about the young O-line. We had probably our best performance of the season with three frosh and a soph starting.

I'm not totally sold on Chin but at least you can say the D has gotten better each season. They usually held-up their end. Would like to see us force more turnovers and develop a good pass-rushing OLB, gotta have one of those in a 3-4.

Hard to say which seniors will return. Heimes and Miller are obviously done. Hopefully we get lucky, could make a real difference next season.

If we don't make any staffing changes then IMO Frost just isn't the right guy. The O and ST's need fixing. Frost needs to be more involved in the team as a whole. Replace Mario with a Co-OC/QB-coach that Frost can cede control of the O to. Frost backs-off into more of a GM/quality-control HC, maybe he can handle ST's himself like Urban did. Otherwise we have to replace somebody else too, I lean slightly towards Ruud. If the new ST's guy can coach ILB's great, if not then give Dawson a raise and all the LB's.

The problem is that we're error-prone, and the longer a drive takes the more opportunities there are for drive-killing errors. We need to develop a downfield passing game no matter what but grinding-out drives will work too if we can clean things up.

If we dont give him 5 years before hes canned no one worth a dam will want to come here.  It will be rebuild after rebuild after rebuild

Totally disagree, if Frost loses for four years straight seasons folks will see it as his failure not ours for not giving him more time. This isn't firing Frank and Bo after 9-3 seasons, it's firing a guy that had four seasons to do SOMETHING and did squat. We've already moved the goalposts considerably in terms of what constitutes success for Frost, that's enough, he shouldn't also need a fifth season to get over the bar we've lowered.

Also, for the record, I was one of the last hold-outs on backing Pelini.  Not that I didn't recognize his faults.  Many were mocking his #9wins as something pretty much anyone could do.  I was one of the loudest voices saying that it was really hard to win that many games each year.  Perhaps we've found that out now.

It was always my view that if you gave Bo a firmer hand in terms of his behavior and offered constructive critique while also being supportive and opening the checkbook for some needed staffing upgrades(for example make Els an analyst/recruiting coordinator, give Papuchis ST's/LB's, and hire top-tier DC). Do that and no we aren't at mid-90's level but we bump-up to 10-win  seasons and that yearly blowout loss becomes more competitive.

Like the scout I quoted said, Betts and Manning are big enough and talented enough to get in the way or run someone off. The bubble screens aren't going for huge gains as it is. Risk/Reward says go with guys that can be an intermediate/deep threat, teach them to be serviceable blockers.

Ya, in a perfect world we'd have guys that can do both and I get that Frost is trying to establish a culture but we still have to get guys in there that pose a downfield threat.

Would Lubick calling plays make a difference?

I say the same thing here as I do to starting Luke. He couldn't do a worse job than what we've been watching. I couldn't tell you what's gotten into Frost or AM but they aren't getting the job done, we have the most underachieving offense in the country.

  15. We need to get our more athletic wr's involved, force NW to protect the whole field and get some big plays. We tend to have drive-killing errors and while we certainly need to clean those up the more plays a drive requires the more opportunities there are for those goofs.

We need to press NW's wr's, we can't play-off like we did against OSU,. Hopefully it was just a matter of Chin being exceedlingly respectful of OSU's wr's. NW is a disciplined team that loves to chew clock, play-off and they will gladly nickel-and-dime us all day.

It's NW, you know it will be a brawl. We need to keep our heads in the game and retain discipline when things get tough.

We should have gotten a considerable jump in terms of game-prep, hopefully that makes the difference.

Used to call UNL campus police the PLG (Parking Lot Gestapo).

I once got a ticket for parking over the line in a gravel lot. Took me hours to get the ticket revoked.

Back in the day during the freaking summer I parked in the gravel lot behind the cement one at Harper-Schramm-Smith. Literally nobody else was in the lot but those bastards still gave me a ticket.

Last night I had ESPN on in the back ground while I was doing something.  I didn't catch who was on, but they started talking about Big Ten's decision to play.  They said something about OSU being able to play with a good team and "making Nebraska happy so they don't leave the conference".  When he mentioned Nebraska, it was almost in disgust.

    It just pissed me off.

Pathetic to see guys working for ESPN that are so poorly informed. We were never leaving, just wanted to play football this season.

I think the line improves this year (if we play). But next year there is going to be a real competition at nearly every spot except for center.

If Benhart starts like the coaches are hoping I'd imagine he'll have his position on lock too. Could see him moving to LT.

Guessing it will be Benhart, Banks, Piper, Noulli or Hixson, and Cam.

  19. Losing the noncon sched and Spring practice definitely hurts in terms of getting a winning record. Can't say I'd be happy with 5-5 but would still  take it as a sign of progress. It's year three, we need SOMETHING to hang our hats on.

As far as not having the season goes Imore staffing/responsibility changes may well be needed. If that is the case I'd rather find out in 2020 so we can hit the ground running in 2021.
