  1. "Actually"? Like one out of a million? So you're telling me there's a chance?
  2. Exactly, could not agree more. Chow's not coming here, and this is an idiotic suggestion. "Real WCO" my butt...that offense that takes 4 years to learn and opponents DC's one week to stop it. Our coaching staff is set.
  3. Perhaps I'm confused or I didn't detect sarcasm...but the AP voted michigan #1 in 1997. Nebraska was ranked #1 in the coaches poll 1997. Hence the "split." You're confused. The reference was to the "split" with Texas in 1970.... The "UPI" (United Press International) Poll came out before the Bowl games....Texas won that poll, essentially the "regular season" championship. Going into the bowl games... #1 Texas lost to Notre Dame #2 Ohio St lost to Stanford #3 Nebraska beat LSU....moving up to claim the National Championship. Ara Parshgian campaigned for Notre Dame, saying the had accpeted the "greater challenge". Parshgian's comments prompted Bob Devaney's now famous, "Not even the Pope could vote Notre Dame #1". Didn't Richard Nixon invite Nebraska football team to the White House and say that they were the real National Championship team or something to that affect? Nixon actually came to Lincoln. In a ceremony at the Coliseum, Richard Nixon presented a plaque to Bob Devaney...with co-captains Jerry Murtaugh and Dan Schniess on the stand. Nixon said, "The plaque wording is as follows, 'The University of Nebraska Football Team...Champions of the Big 8, Victors in the 1971 Orange Bowl...and Picked by the Associated Press Number One Team in the Nation!" (Followed by loud applause) Nixon must've have been a big college football fan. He also attended the 1969 Arkansas-Texas game. After the game in the Texas lockerroom, he presented Darrell Royal a plaque and proclaimed Texas as "Number One".

  5. Shared with texas in 1970 Back then, the "UPI" poll named their champion prior to the bowls. 1. Texas 2. Ohio St. 3. Nebraska After Texas & Oh St lost their bowl games, Nebraska won the AP poll.
  6. I just checked the University website again. Black still isn't one of the colors of the school. Either is Red. Why don't we yell Go Big Scarlet? There's big difference between NEITHER and EITHER. There's virtually no difference between red and scarlet.
  7. Many vintage photos can be found: http://net.unl.edu/sportsFeat/pioneer/hc_m...ps/photos2.html
  8. I'm very proud to say that, based on a recommendation from Jim Rose, CBS contacted me in October about this show. The radio clips in this program came from library of recordings. It's was a big thrill for me to work on that project!
  9. Yes, let's play a "none" conference game with "Illinoise" Isn't Illinoise in the Big None Conference?
  10. What is the topic? "Is Bo Pelini too good to be true?" After 3 days on the job...how can that determination be made?
  11. Spelling and grammar on this board as a whole is extremely lacking. I've just learned to adapt. I'm SO glad some else feels the same way! I read a couple other boards...and there are members of this board who are the worst when it comes to spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. This isn't a "text message". This is a message board. It's hard to take anyone seriously that can't convey their message in a manor that commands some respect, and credibility.
  12. I wouldn't be surprised to see 1's vs 1's for a series or two either.
  13. Nebraska wore all all-red vs Oklahoma in 1986. It wasn't a big surprise to the fans they took warm-ups in the all red...they really couldn't pull a "Notre Dame" since the pads in the pants would have to be transfered. I don't have a problem of trying something else. It just seems everytime we vary from the norm...we lose. This goes back years... 1965 regular season unbeaten...wore red pants on the road. Wore all-white in the Orange Bowl vs Alabama. Lost 39-28. 1966 regular season...wore number decals on the helmet. Changed to the "NU" in the Sugar Bowl vs Alabama. Lost 34-7. 1981 regular season...wore grey facemask on the helmet. Change to red facemask in the Orange Bowl vs Clemson. Lost 22-15. 1986 seniors vote to wear all-red vs Oklahoma. Lose 20-17 1990 regular season unbeaten...wore red pants on the road. Wore all-white vs in the Citrus Bowl vs Georgia Tech. Lost 45-21 1992...strange year. Nebraska was going to go to an all-white road uniform. Lost to Washington. Struggled at Missouri, gave up 434-yds passing, but won. Lost to Iowa St. (How do yu explain that?!) Went back to red pants vs Oklahoma and drilled the Sooners 33-9. 2002, another "all-white" year. Finished 7-7. There are a couple of exceptions... In the 1974 Cotton Bowl and the 1980 Sun Bowl... "NEBRASKA" was on the front chest, above the number. Similiar to an Oklahoma style-jersey. Nebraska won both of these games.
  14. Personally, I'll miss Jim. I liked his broadcast style. Helluva nice guy. Helluva Cornhusker fan. take a look at: http://kentpavelka.com/
  15. When the topic of RUTS comes up, I always refer to 1983 and Syracuse coach Dick McPherson after Nebraska won 63-7,"...We're all big men. We all come to play. For me to say anything negative about the University of Nebraska would be totally wrong. I worry about how many points my team scores."

  17. You may very well be on to something. The oldest Lyell Bremser recording I've heard is from 1960...not a very successful Nebraska team...and Lyell lacks quite abit of his trademark enthusiasm.
  18. An example of "doing an excellent job" ? Somewhere in this process, Mortensen got lost in the shuffle. “I wrote a letter. I sent a fax. I did a number of things,” Pardi said. “(Callahan) didn’t return a call.” http://www2.kusports.com/news/2007/nov/02/...skers/?football
  19. A huge thumbs up! For spelling Lyell Bremser's name correctly...remember you can spell "Lyell" with out "Yell".
  20. I'm not sure what you mean by "paint a picture with words"... "...a chamber of commerce day here in Lincoln, Nebraska...under a sky blue canopy here at 10th and vine...the Husker wearing their scarlet jerseys, white pants, white helmet with their signiture red "N"...
  21. Interesting. You've never heard Jim Rose mention that Matt Herian was a "Pierce Bluejay" or the Todd Peterson is a "Central Catholic Crusader", or Zac Potter is a "Creigthon Prep Jr. Jay" or that Ben Eisenhart is a "Culbertson Bear" or Sam Koch was a "Seward Blue Jay"?
  22. I'd be interested how you came to this conclusion.
  23. The guy I remember was Bob Zenner, is that the one your uncles mentioned. He was great. Just a little guy. GBR!!! Bob passed away from luekemia. I was told when he died, the state reacted similiarly to when Brook Berringer passed. Only Brook's death was sudden, while Bob's prognosis wasn't good. Zenner's voice lives on in some pretty widely circulated season highlight albums covering 1962-1965. A couple Zenner-game broadcast survived too...including the 1959 Nebraska upset of Oklahoma.
